Astronaut (up until early college) --> Environmental engineer --> Doctor

I wanted to be an astronaut for the longest time, but I realized that there is just too much I can never know, if that makes sense. Too much not known in my lifetime, and I got depressed with the idea of research without not knowing results. ;-; From there, I wanted to use critical thinking in terms of our own planet and resources, so I started out majoring in environmental engineering. In my classes, I noted that I had a different mindset than my peers, and I actually wanted to help people more directly (I always thought I wasn't a people person!). I then switched to a major in neuroscience, which I graduated in, and I'm now working towards becoming a doctor (eventually lmao). I was always convinced I didn't want to be a doctor, as I was more... utilitarian, and perhaps global health oriented. Then, I realized that you can do what you want and shift once you have some more degrees to your name. So.... still working on getting a career! c:

- That's so cute! I love how going to the store made you want to be a storeperson, lol. And cute idea for the board!

- Sometimes reality hits us in different ways, but becoming a nurse is a lot of work if that's not where you wanna be! You can still start training towards another career, if you want. c: & What inspired you to want to go into those fields? They all sound so fascinating!

- Wow, I love how you think. That's wonderful. It sounds like you're very self-aware and able to shift as you see fit. You're making the most of each of your days!

- What the - going into medicine is disappointing to your dad?!

- share your story! I'm interested!

I mean he's very proud, but disappointed non of his kids became a pilot/aerospace engineer. XD I can fold a badass origami plane though and my sister has her private pilot licence (flying is more of a hobby to her) so I guess we know who the fav child is.

I can relate, I wish I majored in what I truly wanted to major in (being graphic design). At the time though, I had an uncle who lost his job and it took him around 2-2.5 years to find a new one. Kind of freaked out my parents and they talked me out of doing it.

I majored in Marketing and minored in Business Administration (didn't have a choice on my minor at the school I attended), but now I wish I majored in graphic design and minored in marketing.

As a kid I practically never wanted to be home, so my mom took my brother and I to the store all the time. The home video is hilarious though. I'm just twiddling my thumbs and didn't want to make eye contact with anyone cause I had no idea how to answer the question lol.

Now that I think about it, how do you become an astronaut exactly? Is there a specific major or can you use a major such as engineering towards it? I never really thought about it honestly so I never questioned it xD

Ohhh my father-in-law is a pilot! But he had a rough patch when the airline he was a pilot for went out of business. Lost all his seniority and struggled for a bit, poor guy. But now he's back on track with another airline. He enjoys it but I know it's hard on him being away from home so often.

Though my husband mentioned that if he was able to do it all over again, he'd go to flight school and become a pilot. The only problem with him is, again, being away from home so often.

I wanted to write books for a living. I'm trying to make it work now. <3 ... but tbh when I was very little I was absolutely certain I would work as a checkout operator as a supermarket because the little conveyor belt was the coolest thing ever.

- omg that sounds so adorable hahaha I think it depends on where you go to school, and what exactly you're interested in? I think just some sort of STEM major would be useful. Aerospace engineering was an available major, but the coursework requirements crossed over between environmental, electrical, and mechanical engineering . Though, I do know two people who work with NASA who were both microbial biologists by training! I think they had an open call for anyone who wanted to go into a space program recently though? I haven't really looked into it in years, lol.

Have you ever wanted to be a pilot or be an astronaut? c:

- Man, it's tough when parents have expectations like that! I'm sure he's happy (at least internally) that you're using your intelligence in a challenging way. That's what I hope about my dad, lol. He was hoping I would go into engineering or something more math-related, since that's what he did (and that's my fav/strongest subject). Can your origami plane fly far?! Also, it's actually one of my big goals in life to get my recreational pilot's license! Hopefully I can take the classes this year. c:

I wanted to be a marine biologist and work mainly with dolphins, my favorite animal. It slowly changed to being a stay at home mom, which I now am. It's not what I want to do for the rest of my life, and if I can learn to like running on lack of sleep I would consider becoming a midwife when my children are grown.

- Thank you, but what I meant in my post is that I'm not going for cooking as a career, because it's very demanding, as in a lot of hours. I get sick easily, so I switched paths because I need something that's more flexible and where I could work from home.

I still love cooking for myself and others... just not on the scale of a chef. XD

Good luck with med school! Studying psychiatry sounds difficult, but enjoying what you're learning makes all the difference. :)

First it was a veterinarian, then it was a storm chaser. I would NEVER EVER be able to be a vet...I have had pets put down...I would never be able to be the one to do that procedure. I would probably piss myself if I were to come face to face with a tornado...lol. I would be an excellent meteorologist now, though. Weather fascinates me. I'm always outside watching storms, and watching the radar when severe weather is forecasted (although it almost always misses us, damn valley...)

How funny that I'm posting after you. I always wanted to be a veterinarian, and I've had many, many people tell me the same. Well, I'm one of the few that's actually going through with it. In exactly TWO weeks from today, I will be finished with my first year of vet school! O.O I still can't believe it. All the horrible stories you hear about vet school/getting into vet school are all true! You spend all of high school (and maybe even earlier) preparing to get into college, then you spend all of college preparing to get accepted into vet school, then you spend all of vet school surviving on coffee and studying ALL THE TIME, then you will spend the next 20ish years paying off your loans. I'm done ranting, gotta get back to studying!

I didn't even go to actual college...I went to McCann...and didn't even finish. I took a year of Medical Assisting because god knows why, and switched to Medical Office Technology because 1. I'm better with computers and 2. I can't do the whole phlebotomy thing. That was 2009...I'm still paying, lmfao. (I had to leave because my mom and sister split and I had to stay home and take care of my disabled dad...couldn't work two jobs and do day/night classes too...) I applaud you, though. You have more balls than I do. Let me know when you can practice...I'll bring my Shepherd to you...lol. He chews his back incessantly and won't let me clip his nails.

When I was little I wanted to live with the wolves. Right now I am studying Animal behaviour and Biology to somewhat make that dream come true. My interest has expanded, still love the wolves but also a great interest in all other kinds of animals. I love the natural world and I hope to be able to help protect it. But getting a job in conservation is really tough, so I am doing my best to grab every opportunity I can.

I wanted to be a writer, a lawyer, an astronaut, a vet, a neurologist, a behavioral profiler (even started out majoring in forensic science in university), a psychologist. I graduated from university 7 years ago with a BA in psychology and I now work as a teacher to tiny humans (I work in a daycare with two year olds).

I always wanted to be a Lego model designer/ Master builder. Alas, my creative sense is meager at best. The largest models I've made are two nearly identical Bionicle- Vioran hybrids, totaling about 400- 500 pieces. I'd be glad to see them as a set through Lego ideas...

However, I'm just a handyman. I'm prospecting for a automotive career, even though I hate cars. I grasp the concepts, and have reasonable experience. I just like using my hands and getting dirty.

Old, and obsolete.

I wanted to be a veterinarian for the longest time, and for a while a pilot. I started volunteering in a vet clinic when I was in high school, and that set me on the path to be a vet tech (step down from actual vet). So I went to school for that and did it for a while, but it is a lot of work/stress for not very much reward.

I walk dogs now, which I've been doing for a few years. I've found someone I mesh really well with, so I really enjoy my job. It's really independent, which I like, and I work half the hours for the same amount of pay as my other jobs.

When I was really young, I wanted train cats for a living (lol). Then I wanted to be a pilot, a rich author or a park/forest ranger. Working in the north (where the "real" wilderness is) doesn't pay well, but I still think it'd be great to be a ranger.

Right now, I study politics and different languages at uni. I'm specializing in espionage, crises and war. I work as an English tutor and I organize events, too, but that's just to earn money while I study.
