Oh, this is a curious thought (I never thought of it), so I want to poke my hand in the fire too xD I say (or think) it along of the way of Sub (like from the subway)-a-tah. And at-the-bus is kind how I would pronouce Atebus :D

It's "ate-bus" as in

"I ate bus" "How many bus did you eat" "Eight bus"

Oh gosh, lol! 😆 Way, way back in the olden days, I'd heard that "Subeta" was actually a Japanese word (but not actually based on the Japanese word?), so I've always pronounced it the way it would be pronounced in Japanese: soo-BEH-tah (or basically the way you indicated, lol).

But wowowowow! 😮 Seeing that there's actually no definite or official way to pronounce it is mind-boggling!

Yeah, Subeta was a Japanese loanword from Portuguese that meant sword (as well as some other unfortunate meanings that you can read here). For that reason I consider the Japanese pronunciation to be the correct one. But I guess since it's become something entirely different from the origin, the pronunciation could change as well.

Oh yeah, I read about the other unfortunate meaning of the word...I guess I can only wonder why it came to have such a meaning later on. 😓

Ah, true. Subeta in itself is its own thing, so yeah, it could be pronounced however one pleases. X3

It's a japanese word (with a meaning I won't reveal here) and I speak japanese, so I use the japanese pronunciation "soo-beh-tah".

Atebus = "at-uh-bus".

Shengui Guo = "shen-gwee gwoh"

Literally, these are also the ways I find roll off the tongue most smoothly. I always hate when a word has a very abrupt emphasis in the middle of it, so I find the smoothest way to say it.

I just pronounce it "that danged pet site that I keep throwing my money at."

Other than that, I just love how weirdly popular the topic of "what in the hell do we even call this site?" tends to be. Site's been around for a while, but here we are! You guys could just tell us a way to say it, and people would keep on "soy-bedda'-ing, as they do.

Of course, the answer being to just crack open your collective hearts, scramble that up, and whatever comes out is correct, is also fine. Maybe better! haha.
