General Lag, 5xx Errors and Timeouts Thread

Please read the following information about reporting general lag and errors.

Before making a report, please check the last few pages of this topic as well as admin posts to see if there has already been a staff response to the issue. Please also check the Known Issues spoiler below to see if your issue has already been reported, and if so, what additional information we may be seeking at this time. Please read the guidelines in this post before writing your report. Thank you!

Known Issues This is a list of known issues that have been occurring persistently to multiple users. Advertising Forum Description: Users sometimes experience a 502 or 504 error when trying to load the Advertising forum specifically. This usually goes away after a couple of refreshes. Info to include in your report: There is no need to report this error at this time.

Pet Order page - POSSIBLY FIXED Description: Users experience 502 Bad Gateway when re-ordering pets. Info to include in your report: Please be specific as to how you were re-ordering your pets when you got the error. For example, were you using a preset button (A-Z, custom) or were you saving an order you drag-and-dropped? Also, when you got the error, did it save the new order anyhow or was it lost?

50x Error when Quickstocking Many Items Description: Users experience page lag and timeout when quickstocking a lot of items at once. Info to include in your report: How many items were you quickstocking, and where were they being quickstocked to?


Reporting an Timeout / Error code / Cloudflare Error

Please include the following information:

  1. The error code (502, 504, 524, etc) if there is one
  2. What page(s) you got the error on - If you only encountered the error on one page, please include the exact URL if you have it.
  3. Approximate time you first encountered the error
  4. How long the error lasted. (for instance, were you stuck on the 504 for the next half hour, or you wait 5 seconds, refresh, and it was back to normal?)

For example: "I got a 504 error on the page turning in the items for Pete's quests at 5:03 PM subeta time. The error went away after a single refresh."

Generally if you only get the error once, and it goes away after a single refresh, it does not need to be reported. If you get the error on the same page more than once, please report it.

Reporting general site lagginess

Please include the following information:

  1. What page(s) or sections of the site you experience lag on
  2. Approximate severity of the lag (for instance, how long do pages hang for - 5 seconds? a whole minute? etc)
  3. Approximate time the lag started

There is no need to ping me - I will regularly check this thread.

That was a site-wide outage. I wasn't online the whole time so I'm not sure how long it was down for, it looks like there were problems for 20-30 minutes, and the site went down completely for about 10 minutes. Somebody alerted me to it offsite and I addressed it then. I have the error logs and will try to figure out what caused it later.

I'm technically not working today (it's Sunday!) but I'll be keeping an eye on the site status for the rest of the day. It should be fine now though, and all the servers are reporting healthy status right now :)

I'm currently deploying something that may or may not make things better. But then I've got to sign off for the day. We will definitely make sure this is investigated thoroughly after the holiday :)

Hey everyone! Quick update on the lag situation:

has been looking into it diligently since the plot started. He's currently prioritizing the issue. We have almost narrowed down the cause so I hope I'll have a good news update soon. :)

If you have new information, please add it to this topic instead of making duplicate topics. And no need to keep informing us of the lag; we also use the site and experience the same. Thank you for your patience.

You may have noticed a spike of lag this morning (maybe started last night? Still trying to pinpoint the exact time this started - if you have information, feel free to let me know here!)

The good news is that this is unrelated to the lag we used to have - it's a brand new problem :D

The other good news is, unlike the previous problem, we have error logs and a better idea of what is causing it this time.

I deployed a fix that went into effect about 5 minutes ago, that, while not intended to solve it 100%, should reduce the errors and make pages load a bit faster.

Currently working on a better solution, and will keep you updated as best as I can.

If you would like to report information about this problem, please do so on this topic instead of making a new topic. It is helpful to us to have all the info in one place. Thank you!! <3

Thank you for bringing that to our attention! That is really odd, and after playing around with Subeku myself for a bit, I think this may be an actual glitch with the game code itself rather than site lag. Could you please make a new topic for it in the quest and games bug reports forum and we'll keep it on our radar over there :o

Just want to update, we've been doing a lot of changes to the servers the past hour or so trying to force some changes to hit the site. This involved respinning up all the servers and restarting them a few times, so that'll explain why there was some lag here and there!

Is it still lagging for you? Hopefully it has cleared up? If it is still lagging, are there specific pages or sections of the website that lag more than others? And how severe is it? (Like how many seconds does it take for a page to load?)

Thank you! The information has been passed on. It is pretty clear that there is a pattern of it starting at 2 AM sharp, with some variation in reports on how quickly it gets better.
