Heh, I consider myself lucky in that regard, all my mum's family is into, or was once into, that sort of thing. I had a metal detector that we liked to play around with, too, which I passed to my uncle's kids (I think they may still have it stowed somewhere...). My mum and I are still super into that sort of stuff, she'd probably jump at the opportunity to hunt for gems just like me, and my uncle's youngest is pretty fascinated by rocks and the like, though his older girls seem to have grown out of it. What a shame to not get to go again as a kid, though! I love that sort of stuff, I find it really fun, and I'd totally go with any of my younger cousins if they wanted to do something like that.

Well, I guess I consider myself lucky also; at least my parents encouraged my interests. They just were never really very outdoorsy. My mom did take me to rock shops and museums and stuff...you know, places with paved roads going to them lol. It would be super neat if you did get to take your cousins rockhounding! Your family seems really fun. :D
