[you should be in bed, though]
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
Don't tell me what I should do! :P
I'm an adult.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread, as I've also been experiencing 'jumping' on my pages for some time now. I am wondering if there is a possibility the issue is related in any way to site themes?
I have been using the Shadowglen Graveyard theme for quite a while, and my pages 'jumped', a lot. This morning, I switched to the default Subeta theme - and it stopped jumping. I tested it out for about half an hour, no jumping issues at all.
Also though, rather weirdly, I have now switched back to the Shadowglen theme, and I'm still not experiencing any problems at all o.o
I don't know if this is just co-incidence, or could be something for you to investigate, but I figured I would post it here anyway, just in case it might prove useful. If it's not relevant, apologies ^_^
That's all right - we're all brainstorming here, and every thought helps even if it's not the answer. What I know is that the themes are mostly the same. All of the special themes use the same coding except for the colors and pictures, and then the "hidden" themes (luminaire, morostide, maybe there's like two others) use different coding, but it's the same as each other.
I think the jump happens because something is loading on the page, and it lags, and causes the page to "jump" once it's already loaded. If you have scrolled down, the jump is noticeable. If you haven't scrolled down and it loads, it keeps the scroll at the same place.
It might be something being loaded by the theme, but the only thing that themes really load are images. And usually the images (postcards and header and stuff) are already loaded by the time the jump happens, so it seems unlikely that that's the culprit.
Could you switch back to the default Subeta theme, for a few days, and see if it happens again? And let me know what you notice. I think you need to use it for longer than half an hour to get a sense of whether it still happens or not, since it's such a randomly occuring problem.

- ah okay, that all makes sense, thanks for explaining!
I will switch back to the default theme and leave it there for a few days and see what happens, although now you've explained, it does seem unlikely that themes are causing the issue. I will update here in a few days though, just to keep you informed.
Good luck with it all ^_^
EDIT: - just a heads up, I've been using the default theme for a couple of days now, and my screen is still jumping, so my hunch about the themes is definitely a no-go!
- I know that you said this isn't the problem, but it's the only thing I've changed. I got rid of my HA in the sidebar and haven't experienced any jumping after that (other than in the forums, but that's another issue). I'll try putting it back to see if the jump returns. (On a side note, I'm still having that page hanging/unresponsive issue with my shops - insert sad face here).
Tbh that still seems like the most likely culprit, so I'll ask for a clarification from (who said they still had the jump without it)
Do you have your avatar image showing in your sidebar? I&;ve noticed that image can take a second to load and may be the culprit.
I'll try getting rid of it and see if that helps. Usually my bar is always on the one that has notifications, though, since I always have things selling in my shops.
EDIT - It's not the avatar/full-body image in the sidebar. IT does take forever to load, but it only affects the vertical spacing of the sidebar, not the body of the page. Whatever causes the "jumping" is from sapi.subeta.net (?)
The only thing that loads from sapi.subeta.net is the avatar image, so that may be causing it. You said you'd try getting rid of it, have you done that and still noticed a jump even WITHOUT the avatar widget being in your sidebar?
It may still be causing the issue if you're on the notifications side, even if you think it doesn't look that way, it could be doing something weird. So I only want to rule it out if we can confirm the problem still happens without it (meaning there is no HA on your sidebar at all and it still happens)

- I put my HA widget back for a few hours today and didn't notice any jumping. There is a significant difference in page loading speed though, so I've removed it again.
I know this sounds way out in left field, but a while back. Like a year or so ago my page was jumping and I was about to lose my mind. It ended up having nothing to do with the site itself, but was an extension I had on my browser. it was causing this site to jump. Once I turned off/ deleted my extensions I no longer had the page jumping issue.
Not sure if mine was the same way, but I would scroll down to click on something and my page would jump back up and lather - rinse -repeat. I think I even invented a few words because it was driving me crazy!
Any-hoot not sure how I figured it out it was my browser extensions. I might have looked it up on google or a friend told me. Who knows, but getting rid of them solved my jumping problem. This might not have anything to do with the jumping pages now. Just tossing it out there.
I don't have any extensions except AdBlock, which is white-listed on Subeta, but I appreciate the help!
I haven't noticed any jumping since I removed the HA and the chatbox, and have been leaving my bar on the notifications side. I tried to force it to jump yesterday (almost 80% of the time happens on the stupid sauna/bath page, when I try to go into the pool) but couldn't get it to jump.
I'll try re-enabling the HA and seeing if I can force it to jump again. I kinda liked not having it jump on me! I also remember that when the site was super busy, I was more likely to experience jumps.
Well crap, I was hoping that would fix your problem as quick as it did mine. :( Hope it gets resolved soon for you. I know how annoying it is.
Hey everyone, I think this is actually due to the HA sidebar widget and I have an idea for a solution. Before I put it on the site I'd love if you guys could help me test this out and see if it works.
Add this to your custom css:
.sidebar-widget.x-js-wardrobe .sidebar-widget-contents{height:254px;}
I'm hoping that this will help fix the issue, it basically fixes the height so that it stays the same height regardless of whether the HA is loaded yet.

- I added the code to my CSS yesterday and the jumping has stopped since then!
I think you did it :D
Fix is live, I hope it works!!
(For the curious, it's the CSS fix to the sidebar HA widget, that I posted above.)

Hey everyone! Following up again, have you guys noticed this still happening recently? I pushed a fix two days ago and would love to know if you've noticed it working!

For me when the page jumps is when I'm trying to quest or manually move an item from my inventory to my shop or gallery. I don't use the shout box or have the dashboard widget and I don't have my avatar picture in my dashboard either ^^. The page will jump just before a 504 error. I was trying to move an item manually to my gallery and the page jumped and hesitated and then this error came onscreen ^^.

This may just be a error that happens to me since they seem to find me all the time but I thought I would mention it just for the sake of it. Thank you kindly ❤.

I think you're describing a slightly different error - For you, the page jumps prior to crashing (with a 504), so I think the "jump" you experience is more a side effect of the lag rather than a problem on its own or with the site layout. However the "jump" in both cases is caused by one part of the page loading a lot slower than the rest, so it makes sense that you're seeing the same symptom.
I agree you seem to get more 504s than is "normal" for Subeta, I just wish I knew why. Do you have another topic in this forum about your 504 problems, where we could discuss it more?

Thank you I understand :).
I did post on another topic in the problems forum just the other day -
https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/884622/Site-Issues/4 Post number 67 I believe ^_^.
Thank you for explaining the page jump issue I appreciate it ❤.

i didn't wanna post back here since you kinda said my jump was unrelated, but still wanted to give feedback:
my version of the jump issue i described earlier (99.9% sure related to SB) (which seemed to affect other people as well):
still happening
thank you n_n
Yeah, the SB issue is separate and is something we're choosing not to fix since it's due to how the SB widget is coded. Unfortunately it doesn't seem worth the effort to fix as it would take a lot of effort due to the SB code being kinda messy :S
I'm mainly waiting to hear back from the OP and others who had the issue with the HA widget, as that was the fix I pushed.
