Haha I suppose one always needs to look on the bright side of things! Cats or any pets ARE a lot of expense, especially as they get older. I miss my kitty a lot, but I have a feeling she spoiled me for other cats. She was such a good cat, if I got another one it'd probably one of those assholes you see on tumblr, looking right at you as they bat your breakables off the table.

I've met some very nice birds who will just sit on your shoulder and the worst thing they'll do is occasionally poop on you. This bird has resisted all attempts at socialization, and he's like seventeen years old now so he's too set in his ways. We joke that he's going to get out of his cage one day and murder us all. But he's so adorable, even when he's hissing at me and shaking his toy around in a threatening manner.

Oh you would hate this bird. He's small, so he SCREECHES. Food bowl is empty or he's dropped food in his water? SCREECH!!! until you feed him or change water. Oh you're on the phone? He can tell. SCREECH!!!! But then he'll whistle as he tries to sing along with anime openings and peek at you when you pass by his cage, and make little chirpy noises when you fill his bowl, so he's so cute no one can bring themselves to be angry.

He's a cockatiel. Ounce for ounce meaner and more ornery than the raptoriest raptor. How did your stew come out? My roommate made stew the other night too, only the store provided all the ingredients. ^^

I used to have a sulphur-crested cockatoo that we used to let fly wild in the forest. One day he opened his cage and left at home and we were devastated thinking he'd be killed by a dog - but it turned out he joined the wild flock that used to fly over our house. We heard him one time and went outside and found he'd brought the flock to meet us, all these wild cockatoos and our little Frank sitting in the middle shouting all the words he knew at us. I'm still super proud of him he's a good boy.

Omg that is such an amazing story. My cousin who lived down the street from me had a cockatoo... she was very smart, she was potty-trained and everything (as much as a bird can be) but oh my lawd the sounds it made. I lived... thinks six houses down and when Princess decided to scream, you could hear her all the way at my house and beyond, the sound would echo off the houses and sounded like someone being murdered. XD

Vegeta (that's Mr. Grumpyfeathers himself) is white with a yellow crest and red cheeks, I don't know the names of all the cockatiel color morphs (he's actually my roommate's bird).

Yeah, they're not very common meats here. I can't remember if it's lamb or goat I've had... I had it in a curry years ago and it was delicious.

Edit: An an example of the orneriness of this bird. His usual food is little bits of fruit-flavored... thingies. Most of them are just little balls, but some of them are shaped like bananas (they're just little yellow crescents lol). And sometimes he decides he hates the bananas and will just eat around them or toss the bananas onto the floor. Then he'll abruptly change his mind and decide he LOVES the bananas and will eat nothing else, which is what he's doing now. He's been screeching all morning because he's OUT OF BANANAS AND HOW DARE WE IGNORE HIM.
