I don't think the "soup can't be sweet!" rule is valid. There are lots of different soups across many cultures that are sweet, and dessert soups are not unheard of in the world. Tong sui, a Cantonese soup, can be made of custards, sweet beans, or sweet seeds. It literally translates to "sugar water." There are also Scandinavian sweet soups made with fruit, like sot suppe. Furthermore, there are soups that can be served cold, like Gazpacho. Based on this, I think that a decent argument can be made that cereal could be considered a type of soup.

First of all, you are a shark. So that's cool. Second of all, I agree. And now I want to try all these sweet soups and cold soups. Sign me up, please.
And thank you for agreeing with my sentiment. Soup and cereal are not synonymous, but cereal is soup. As a square is a rectangle but a rectangle, not necessarily a square.
