Doooo itttttt. xD
once i get a house in France and settle there, I know where to come for advice on keeping hens and goats >.< well, my partner can't really drink milk, so i'm not so sure about the goat part. though they like the idea of being surrounded by many different animals and i lie the idea of producing our own food.
i don't think i'd be able to cull the chickens [livestock] for food [though i know it would be the most delicious dish ever. my partner also doesn't like to eat meat - we very rarely eat it as a result. and the idea of doing that to the animal we raised is beyond their imagination. i understand the need to do it]
i read that chickens can live up to 10 years o.o but i can't yet test this out, lol
SPOILER (click to toggle)
i could ask mother about raising chickens or goats, but i doubt she knows: mother is a countryside girl, but i think it was her parents who took care of the livestock. and my grandparents are dead [except for her dad who is 90 yo]
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
If your significant other can't have milk, that's actually a great reason to get dairy goats! Most people have issues with cow's milk but do fine with goat's milk. :) I'm allergic to cow's dairy (not that it stops me) and my husband is lactose intolerant, so goats seemed like a good plan to us. And you are always more than welcome to come pick my brain about poultry care!
Right? I still need to hit the feed store (maybe next week?) to get some more supplies for them. I need to pick up some barley to start sprouting, and some goat minerals, and probably some dewormer (just in case).
