Info on Lightning Challenges and Roleplay Challenges

What are Lightning Challenges?

Lightning Challenges are very easy challenges that you will only be given a short amount of time to complete. The time frame for these challenges can vary from a day to three days, where a regular challenges usually have a time frame of up to a week.

For example, one of the challenges may be a short trivia challenge. However, you may only have 24 hours to complete it before it’s closed!

What are Roleplay Challenges?

Roleplay Challenges are similar to the roleplay class lessons we have had in the past. You will be given a task to complete, and it’s your job to find a way to complete the task. You must do this while remaining in character. There may be more than one way to complete the task at hand, so think creatively!

Roleplay Challenges are broken down into two categories: all play and champion only. For challenges that are “all play”, this means any student character can participate in the challenge. For champion only challenges, only students that are chosen by the Goblet of Fire to be one of the champions will be able to submit a solution for the task. For both types of Roleplay Challenges, participants will be given approximately a week to complete their submissions.

Roleplay Challenges will be graded using a predetermined rubric to judge the participant’s entry. The rubric is not readily available at this time, however it will take into consideration items like the creativity of the solution, style, and conventions (such as grammar, punctuation, etc.)

How often will Roleplay Challenges be?

I cannot give exact dates for these challenges, however I can guarantee that there will be none in the first week of the tournament. There will be 3 or 4 of the champion only challenges all together, however. I cannot confirm how many all play challenges there will be.

Frequently Asked Questions If you have any questions that aren't answered here, please feel free to post! If it's a question we think everyone will have, we will add it.

Since special abilities are suspended, what happens if I am assigned to Hogwarts and my Hogwarts character has a special ability?

You will still be able to use the character, however you will not be able to use the special ability to gain an advantage during the event. If you feel that you cannot play your character without their special ability (i.e. if your character is a half breed that is difficult to play without taking it into consideration), then we highly suggest creating a new character for the tournament. You will be able to resume your special ability character once the tournament is over and we resume the House Cup at Hogwarts.

Do champions need to perform the tasks that Prefects normally do?

Nope! A champion’s only duty is to perform the roleplay challenges that are designated as champion-only. If a champion would like to take on a leadership role, that is completely up to the individual champion.

Am I allowed to roleplay more than one character during the tournament?

Of course! However, you will only be able to use one character to earn points from roleplay challenges. So if you are from Ilvermorny and want to play both your Ilvermorny and Hogwarts characters, only your Ilvermorny character will be able to earn points. Similarly, if you are chosen as champion and have a champion character and a non-champion character from the same school, only your champion character will be able to award points during champion challenges.

You may play any character from any school during roleplay that does not earn points.

Do I need to post my character info on the student rosters?

Posting your character info is not strictly necessary, but it may be helpful for you to keep track of your character’s personality, appearance, and pertinent info!

When we are nominating champions, can we submit anyone?

Technically yes! I highly suggest you submit names of members who are willing to take on the task though! We don’t want any Harry Potters here.

Does our Goblet of Fire have an Age Line?

Nope! Students of any age may submit their name as champion. The committee for the tournament has worked tirelessly to make the tournament safe for anyone to participate in.

Do we have to submit 5 names into the Goblet of Fire?

Nope! You must have a minimum of 2 names and a maximum of 5 names.

Will there be prizes at the end of the tournament?

Absolutely! The winning school will be awarded a prize pack, along with an extra bonus for the school’s champions.

Each school’s top scorers will also earn a fun prize!

Will challenges be reopened near the end of the tournament?

Unfortunately, since the tournament will only be lasting 2 months, we will not be reopening challenges at the end of the tournament. So participate in them while you can!

If I got assigned to a school that is not Hogwarts, but want to use our Hogwarts character, can we have the character transfer to Ilvermorny or The Alexandrian Academy?

We would prefer you do not transfer your character to another school. We would prefer you create a new character for the tournament. However, if you feel that you will not be able to create a new character for the tournament, you are allowed to transfer your character to your school. If you do decide to transfer your school though, you will not be able to transfer it back once the tournament is over.

If I got assigned to a school that is not Hogwarts, am I allowed to transfer my character to Hogwarts after the tournament is over or will I be forced to retire it?

At this time, we are allowing members to transfer their character to Hogwarts on a case by case basis. If you would be interested in transferring your character to Hogwarts, please let me know before the start of the next term.

Where is the Triwizard Tournament taking place?

The Triwizard Tournament is taking place a Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which is located in the USA, specifically in Massachusetts.

What schools are participating in the Triwizard Tournament?

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and The Alexandrian Academy for the Arcane Arts are the three schools participating! You can learn more about all three in this thread: TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT - School Preference/Sign Up

Sorry about that.

I understand the concern about the challenge. We did take into consideration the time zone difference and were planning on staggering any lightning challenges that were going to be available for less than a day. If it will help to make them a day at least, then we will certainly make the adjustment. It wasn't our intention to have it be an additional stressor to anyone. The points for the lightning challenges will be minimal, if it makes a difference. Since it is a new thing, I'd still like to try at leeway one and see how it goes. If it seems it'll be a problem, we definitely won't continue them.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone! We will take some time to talk it over and come up with a better solution.

Hi everyone!

I updated the first post to include the school champions. I'm still waiting on the character names from a couple of people, so I will update as I get them.

Please note that Lightning Challenges have been updated - they will now last from a day to three days.

I also plan on adding some useful links sometime today or tomorrow.
