I can understand not wanting to have global bosses again, or change how the Hydra is dealt with. But I would like to see the other Gelatins keep coming back from time to time, for people who still need achievements, or whose pets weren't strong enough to beat the tougher challengers before.
Maybe we don't need one every year, but I don't really want to see them go away completely either. I get that seasoned battlers who are finished with everything may not care, but some people who are just getting in to battling or who just joined the site would probably still like to see them sometimes to be able to get the achievements and special items.
I haven't finished the achievement for it (gliders, mini gelatins and hydragellos left), but I really dislike the gelatin event.
It's a pure grind - exhausting, kinda boring and all-around meh. :/ I can't think of much that would make it interesting again, but if/when the event happens again, I'll try to at least knock some of my final few achievements out of the way so I don't feel bad when they finally discontinue it for something more interesting.
Definitely agreed on the global boss. Just... Please no. ._. Even for site plots, I find them too tedious and generally not worth the effort.
Not sure about a genuine groupA vs groupB "war" because those kinds of things generally end in a lot of bickering and whinging. Maybe if the prizes are identical for everyone at the end, it was capped like plot points (10 wins per challenger are counted, rest are for achievements) and everyone qualified for prizes, but the winning team got some bonus points at the end? IDK, rambling.
I have nothing against them. I also need the achievements still so I'd prefer to see some returning. Just ... no battle boss. That's really all I'm whining about.
I don't like the whole trend of everyone gets/qualifies for the same prizes. :X Sure, people will complain, but people always complain. If there's a pick a side, there should be a losing side to properly motivate and incentivize.
Yup, but nobody likes feeling shafted when they've pulled their own weight and did the best they could in an event.
If the event is done just for fun and there were no tangible prizes at the end besides the standard 5-wins-per-challenger loot drops, I could see it working out well. Like... a forum title and a trophy for the best team, something like that. If there are tangible prizes, they should prob be available in the MC for a price, like the snowman contest ones. Or, hell, even the battle shop.
I'm not a huge fan of boss battles either, and it's a common complaint I've seen among battlers. I would like to see some new battling events or something too, but I still would like to see at least the regular opponent Gelatins come back once in a while, and people who don't want to participate don't have to.
Also just in general, how did it work out for the Pirates vs Islanders war? That was an event where people took sides, right? I wasn't around then so IDK how it worked with points and prizes and all that, but now we also have the Antique Shop where old plot prizes will end up eventually.
And if there is a winning and losing side, then maybe they could do something like they did for the Omen Islands plot last year. Have a prize shop with the same items that anyone can buy, but maybe for the winning team the bonus can be extra prize points to buy more stuff with? I'm not against having a winning team that gets something extra, but having collection items like plushies and such that are only available to certain people just makes it even harder to complete collections. Especially if you're on the losing team but you put in a lot of individual effort, you should at least be able to get something for your hard work even if your teammates gave up or didn't care.
I think I'm a little surprised to see a thread about Gelatin war literally the same day we finish another site event. If it shows up this year, I would expect it to be later, and not immediately after another event.
The summer months can be a bit event-free. I'd actually prefer if it showed up somewhere in the middle of summer rather than right now if only to give us something do to rather than twiddle our thumbs.
I'd also like to see the War come back, mostly because of those achievements. I get how some are bored of it and over it, but not everyone is.
That said I wouldn't mind a little tweaking of the intro story; tie it into the lore a little bit more, maybe? Is SAI doing anything to combat this yearly Gelatin invasion? You'd think, given that it seems to happen every year. :)
@ Laurey Yup, we had two sides in pirates vs islanders! If you joined pirates, you fought islanders in the BC and got access to the pirate shop at the end. Opposite thing happened with the islanders - you fought pirates and got access to the islander shop.
At the end, a lot of people felt like they made the wrong choice when they went with the Islanders because of Amy's death, so an item was introduced (Daisy Memento) to give those people access to the pirate side - Port Plunder. I joined the Islanders and used the daisy, but I don't remember if that granted them access to the pirate shop or not, I think it might have? Someone with better memory can probably confirm this. @ _ @ (wtf at the random ping?)
And thank you for explaining my reasoning for the winning/losing side better than I could. :'D I liked last year's plot shop because it was really fair for everyone as far as prizes go.
I think it does tend to happen during the summer (usually), so it kind of makes sense for people to be talking about it. I'm getting over it though seeing it mentioned in almost every news post now.
But anyway, that's a good point about the SAI thing. I would like to see them involved with more stuff in general, and more of a plot/mini-story kind of thing with them plus the Gelatin War could be interesting, instead of just battling and then it's over.
Ah okay, thanks for explaining!
And yeah I thought last year's prize shop was fair. I'm definitely not against winners getting something extra, I just don't think that should be exclusive access to certain items that may become impossible to buy in the future. I like the idea of everyone having access to all the items, but choosing what you want to buy because people like to collect different things. I like collecting plushies and beanbags, etc. But I have no desire for minions or "useless" TC fodder items. Making the prize shops like they did last year makes it pretty fair for people to get what they want and maybe even have some points left over.
It could be set up so there are still the regular challengers and you get a certain amount of points for beating them each time and that caps at a different number for each opponent (maybe daily wins or something if they don't have growing stats after each win). Hydragellos would get nerfed to a regular opponent too so people could actually beat him. Then you have different team leaders and people pick which team they want to be a member of, and the team with the most points (or average points or something?) wins some non-exclusive prize... idk what would be a good prize but that can be decided upon later. or maybe just an extra bunch of points. then the prize shop opens up at the end with the core being at the high end of the prize shop and other prizes being worth fewer points. I'd much prefer this to a boss battle because ugh boss battles
I like boss battles in theory. Potentially? I hate the x2 bosses where the points from both battles is added up, which literally equals 24 hours of non-stop mind numbing clicking/healing/clicking/zzzz. When it comes to that, I'd rather just buy the loot if it's worthwhile.
I'd so much rather see the boss battle being broken up into like six sets of four hours each (24 hours total) spanning over two days (even more preferably on a weekend, since most people don't work or have school on the weekends... that'll never happen though). One xan participate in all of them, with their highest score being their high score. Not only is that less dedication to being in front of a PC (good luck via mobile, I tried that once and NEVER eVeR aGaIn ok), but it also opens up using several different pets or even trying different strategies. Instead of like "well I'd love to try a lower tier pet to see if I can get the top prize per tier but I can't because I can only dedicate five hours to battling and lol I have to hit it with my strongest for the maximum loot".
That all said the hydra is boring now, after so so many years. I'd love to see him downgraded and replaced with something new? I also would love to see the gellys changed up, even if it was just a blue wizard and red mini gellys with new loot. Just something to spice it up.
I also love the idea of all gellys adding points and the hydra/whatever having points. That's a neat concept and would probably help lower tier pets get more points than verses just the boss.
The Pirates/ Islanders war also included a Restock War. I wasn't battling at that point, but I did participate in the RW. I couldn't remember if we could earn points for battling in the BC, but my impression is that most battle prizes currently available in the Antique Shop were first made available as prizes to non-battling events, such as Restock Wars or Reading Drives.
I also think the current boss war needs a reform so that people don't have to stay up all night clicking then still run a chance of not winning anything because they happen to score just a couple hundred damage lower than the person who ranks at no.10. However, I'd love the other challengers in the Gel War to come back as they were designed. I'm late to battling and would love to get the achievements.
i like some of the suggestions mentioned (esp downgrading the hydra to a regular challenger / moving the core to a prize shop, as i know that i'd probably struggle earning one the usual way now that my girl is firmly out of the baby tiers) and while i wouldn't be mad about a jelly war happening sooner rather than later since i still need to finish off the achievements, i'd rather see the opponent reset happen first tbh p:
I got to say that I also really like the concept of boss battles, and I support 's idea of the 4 hour rounds.
As for some diversity in the jello war, I wouldn't mind seeing different "flavours" of the old opponents. Plus, there are some difficulty gaps between the glider-golem, golem-shell, and obviously shell-wizard, so new opponents like "Gelatin Brute" (golem), "Gelatin Sorcerer" (wizard), and "Gelatin Chomper" (shell) could be used to fill those spaces. Maybe a giant Gelablob as an impossible challenger, which could be a recolour of the mini gelatin.
Wasn't the last boss battle three four hour waves where only your best counted? It still didn't solve all of the problems but it was better than cumulative waves, but I'd still prefer moving away from global bosses. We've tried them many times and they're just stale and boring for a lot of people.
I wanna say last boss battle was three waves of ~6 hours each. It was less painful than the old way for sure, but it's still horrible. Especially when it gets near the end and we don't know what's gonna happen; if the boss is gonna get buffed or nerfed or healed in order to fit in the allotted time. Last time didn't we have to have an NPC jump in and do massive damage?
It just...doesn't work. It's a mess on the admins' side since they've said they basically go in each boss blind, and it's agony on the users' side being chained to the computer for huge chunks of time.
Anyway, a little more on topic, I'm not opposed exactly to the gellies coming back for newer users. I just think the current format is outdated.
Hm, was it broken up? That's promising.. I only got in like 10 battles or so because turns out boss battles + cell phone = nope nope nope! Battling via phone is bad enough, but boss battles with lag and yeah no.
Anyways, I'm definitely on team-nobossbattlespls. If and when we get the next gelly war I'd love to see a nerfedhydra that's just a really strong impossible challenger with the core turning to an achievement prize, like the Manifesting Weapon (which is cheapish because of the ordeals when it was first released, but otherwise a one per account/something that can be worked towards works pretty well).
If there was a massive concern with core deflation there could always be a new impossible challenger released (or whatever the wizard is... isn't he impossible?) or a recolor of the wizard (blue, or green, or purple, or multicolored?) with a new concoction that could create a new weapon... that would definitely bring some new light to a gelly war.
I like the idea of changing it to be more like a war. (love the Subeta covered in jelly idea)
And, as a player who has not been around as long and could only really participate for the first time last year, I am still very interested in this event. However, I can understand that older players may not feel this way. Hopefully shaking things up a bit will make everyone happy.
No more boss battles... they make my poor eyes want to cry for days... anything else I am all for!
count me in on team nobossbattles as well.
maybe a point system like pirates vs islander had in the past
maybe add another tier or two of challengers above wizard or whatever
but no more global boss fights where its literally fight. get insta-killed. healer. rinse repeat.
