Transferred pets have a waiting period of 30 days before they can battle. So you have a bit of time before you'll be able throw him to battle to work on weapons. Theme for weapons doesn't even cross my mind. Can my pet use it; do I have a better weapons; should I buy a better weapon; and is this weapon appropriate for the challenger are what I consider. Natasha and the Unstable Sample Syringe don't suit Chums' story, but when I want to beat Flamagia I take them into battle regardless.

Nope, battles are one on one. If your pet dies you lose. The only penalty is having to pay for healing though. Spells you would equip by using scrolls, and the scrolls you can equip are determined by your pet's alchemy points. Swear Words has 22 (I think).
