Charlotte Abernathy - Ravenclaw
Charlotte watches closely as the professor demonstrates the spell. This one seemed fun to her, but she couldn't help thinking the the spell was not necessarily very practical. It was cool nonetheless.
She rummaged through her schoolbag and pulled out her .
She twirled it between her fingers as she thought carefully about what bird she should choose. After finally deciding, she set the pen down and stared at it for another moment. She then began to whisper the spell under her breath, practicing it. Her hand carefully not on her wand.
"AH-vi-fors...AH-vi-fors....AH-vi-fors." She let her lips get a good feel for the word, hoping she would manage the spell in one try.
Delicately, she picked up her wand and took a deep breath. Gently, she touched the tip of her wand to the pen. "“AH-vi-fors,” she said confidently. The pen immediately began to grow and transform. After a moment a Monks parakeet stood where her pen was before.

She giggled happily and put her wand out and the bird hopped right on. She brought it up to her face and looked it in the eye. It looked identical to the Monks parakeet she had had as a child. Feelings of nostalgia built up in her as she looked at the bird happily.

Magnus Lee, Ravenclaw Attempt
Magnus frowned. What bird? Well he could go for an African Grey, like his own bird. No, that was highly special to him. Well, it seemed a little obvious, but the joke was there and the bird was a cool bird so he knew which bird he should make now, after having given it some thought.
Since it had taken him so long to even move, most of the good items were gone and he was left with a . He looked at the torn picture and wrinkled his nose. The boy frowned not really feeling confident and thought of his bird as he said, “Avy-ha-fors.” Nothing happened at all. He tried another several times, each time getting more and more annoyed. Charms was one of his best subjects but the lack of results wasn’t helping him and he started flailing his wand. Still nothing happened and he picked the photograph up and crushed it in his hands. He threw it swearing under his breath. Feeling maybe Professor Norman was watching him, he went and retrieved the now .
What was he doing wrong? Grumbling he put his hand back in the air, hoping for some help.
( he's not finished with his attempt. He's saying it wrong and is getting irritable.)
Fade dug into his pack and pulled out a Setting it on the desk in front of him he practiced the pronunciation before drawing his wand while the student beside him went to fetch an object. “Ahvi-fore. Ahvi-for. AH-vi-fore.” Shaking his head he tried again. “AH-vi-fors. Forsss. AH-vi-fors. AH-vi-fors” Once he was satisfied with his pronunciation he drew his wand and practiced the movements. Of course he had read about the charm in his text book, not having been able to wait to read it, but he hadn’t ever tried a practical application in case something went terribly wrong and he turned the object into a demon or some other monstrosity.
He took a moment to watch the other students in their attempts. The Slytherin girl beside him () had found a pretty mirror and he watched as she turned it not into a regular bird, but a occamy. Fade gasped. Not so much in fear, more so about how terribly beautiful the creature was. A smile cracked his stoic expression as she hastily covered it and thought of what to do. She was a fast thinker because in a matter of moments she cast the charm again and turned the occamy into a standard, yet still beautiful peacock.
Fade was impressed but he wasn’t going to be outdone. Even if there clearly wasn’t any competition going on. He always felt more competitive around a Slytherin for some reason. Practicing the wand movements a few more times he decided to try it out. The bookmarks colors reminded him of a bird his mother was fond of. Picturing the bird in his mind he very clearly stated. “AH-vi-fors!” There was a slight sucking sound and then a pop. A Green-Headed Tanager hopped around his desk a few times before taking flight across the room and perching on one of the rafters above.

(( , hope you don't mine me butting into your post XD ))
((Totally not! That was fun! One should always compete with a Slytherin because we compete with everyone. :D ))
Elizabeth Amalia Covington, Slytherin
Elizabeth was observing the other students a little before finally stepping in front of the items Professor Norman had placed on a table. It took her a while before she found something catching her eye, which was a . While walking back to her seat, she looked at the necklace, wondering what bird she could choose. In her mind, she was deliberating over the various birds in her home as she knew those best from being out in nature.
Placing the necklace carefully on her table, a ray of sunlight hit it. The stone didn't look like a real sapphire, but nevertheless, it sparkled like the finest gem. An idea crossed her mind like the ray of sunlight had crossed the window. A magpie. It was so simple, but really fitting.
"Avi-fors!", Elizabeth said while pointing her wand at the necklace. She had spelled the incantation too fast, but didn't notice it. Confused, she looked at the necklace. Some white feathers with a black tip on their ends were laying around it. She concentrated on the image of a magpie again. "A-vi-fors!", she said, enhancing the syllables with a clear voice, but the start was too fast as she wanted to accomplish the task. Elizabeth hated failing and even though everyone else was busy with their own stuff, be it object or bird, she thought everyone was looking at her. Now even more feathers had appeared on her table. With a slight blush, she took a deep breath and then made them vanish. Focusing on the correct incantation and the bird, she pointed her wand at the necklace once again. "AH-vi-fors!" The words were spoken clearly and within moments, the necklace had transformed into a curious magpie. It was looking at Elizabeth for a moment, then it started picking on the ray of sunlight, which was reflecting and therefore shimmering a bit on the polished wooden table. Then it looked up to shift its gaze at the sunlight.

Paddy looked in the box, and pulled out a small piece of driftwood that if she squinted, looked almost bird-shaped. Taking it back to her desk, she placed it in front of her and muttered the spell under her breath a few times to get the pronounciation right. Trying her hardest to not look around at what everyone else was doing, she placed the driftwood in her hand, tapped it with her wand and said "Avifors", but nothing happened. Confused, she tried again, this time putting the stress on the first syllable and trying to not let her accent make the 'r' too strong. She held her breath as the driftwood changed shape and stared in amazement at the that was now sitting on her hand. "I've managed to do it, Professor Norman!" she called with excitement and a level of disbelief, "I chose a Woodpecker because it reminds me of being in my Uncle's place in the woods. The trees were always full of the sound of them hammering away with their beaks."
