Poppy flicked through her ancient copy of Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them. She had pounced on it for 3 Knuts at an autumn flea market, excited to find a first edition for so little. Her copy was very worn; its red cover was ripped and showed the yellow binding beneath. A label that said "Property of:" was fading below the title, but the name of the book's original owner had long since peeled away.

She paused every so often, adding bookmarks where she found creatures with traits that she found relatable.

Demiguise: Pacifist, likes to eat veggies. (pg. 9) Erumpent: "Will not attack unless sorely provoked..." Catastrophic results may occur. (pg. 16) Hippogriff: Appreciates manners. Good intentions are a must in gaining one's trust. (pg. 21) Lethifold: Prefers breakfast in bed. (pg. 27) Porlock: Wary of strangers. (pg. 34)

Poppy began to color-code her personality chart and then moved on to illustrate her resulting creation. "My hybrid is a Demigriff. It is a silvery blue-grey bird that values peace above all else. The Demigriff is quite common and can be found in a wide variety of environments. However, it will vanish to sunnier climates where there are many flowers when threatened."

Paddy opened her copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and casually flicked through the pages. She'd just finished writing a couple of other essays, and really felt she'd had enough of writing about anything to do with werewolves, so she decided to look for totally different creatures for this assignment.

My first animal is an unusual one for me, given my lack of enthusiasm for felines. Although I don't think I have the level of intelligence that a Kneazle does, I do have an independent streak. Fortunately I haven't been known to become aggressive.... at least not that often.

My second animal is even more unusual - a Pygmy Puff. They are known to hum when content, which is apparently something I did when I was younger.

My third and final animal is a Hippogriff - they do not trust people initially, and you have to approach them with care while letting them decide if you're to be trusted or not.

My hybrid is a Hippuffzle; it's a large feline, although which is smaller than a lion in size, and has unusually large wings. It is one of the most intelligent feline-looking animals, while a strike from its wings can cause severe damage to most things including human bone. The Pygmy Puff element means the Hippuffzle retains a smaller size, but also that it emits a faint hum while sleeping, which is said to be the cause of the 'ringing in the ears' sensation a lot of Muggles have experienced.
