i worked at starbucks last year and found out that we didn't write names on cups. they now actually have to enter the customer's name and order on the register, and boop! out prints a ticket with their name and everything ! then you just stick it on a cup and give it to the barista.like this!!
but i had the WORST time with the register touch screen--it wasn't calibrated right, the cursor was laggy and off by almost an inch. and you really have to JAB. AT . IT. to make it work. so sometimes i would go on auto pilot and my fingers would fly across the moniter and i'd realize "Jack" was now "KQ XL"..................
i felt like my best bet was always asking "and how do you spell that" for any name juuuust to be safe.
i had a good friend working at starbucks who made me two drinks with these names based on a crappy youtube video for a good gag ;;;;;;

I tend to just like. Ask. How to spell shit. And if I can't hear I'll point to my ear and ask for it again bc I have bg noise related hearing loss. (Basically the more interference the less I hear) Like, If "Sarah" comes up for a Venti Latte, I ask "Sarah with or without an H?" Or like "Zach" I'll ask "With a c, ck, or ch?" bc it's easier than like. Getting it wrong. I've got Susy, Suzie, Suzy and Susie at my store too ;;;
Trying to get them to spell 'Meesho' is like the worst luck ever. xD; So I just settle for my pen name 'Serena' and even then I get 'Sirena' or weird other spellings.
Happily married to Kaboomanori <3
Kryzl is a weird name, so I just forgive anyone who misspells it. But sometimes I just tell people my name is Sel to make things simpler. It did not make things simpler.
Right now I have, like, 20 different ways to spell that. Sel, Cel, Zel, Zelle, Chelle, even Seth (wow, do I look like a guy?).
I've actually grown tired enough of it to just roll with whatever people first hear.
This hits home so hard hahaha! My name is Carina. Some people get it right. Most spell it with a K. The worst I've ever gotten was "Greena". HAHA! The poor woman took my credit card after I ordered, looked at my name on it and said "Oh dear I'm so sorry, I messed up your name so bad."
Honestly at this point, it's amusing. I love giving people my name for my order and seeing what they come up with.
My full name is Tymalyn, and the one time I used it at Starbucks they wrote 'Timalin' on the cup
I uh, just use Ty now. I don't wanna be the star of Home Improvment.
as someone who is a barista i wanna say that on the flipside, i hate when people try to give me some weird name as a joke. like no, im not going to call out "LARGE VANILLA LATTE FOR 'BIG DADDY'" so dont even try it
I tend to use one of my middle names instead of my first name because of this exact problem (I have a list of about 40 misspellings/mispronunciations of my legal name), and yet Joyce gets turned into Jayce, JJ, John (?!), and Jolyne. I know that lovely purveyors of caffeinated products are usually underpaid and don't care but like please. Please.
Wha? Do they also write names on cup in Asian countries? Why didn't I remember something like that when I was in Taiwan? The one I went to just went by order number like most fast food places o.o
In US however, the few times I went to Starbuck, they always write down wrong name... even after they freaking confirmed spelling of my name 3 times during order -_-;; One time I got asked if I have "easier" nick name and I was like "what, you want my Chinese name? Trust me it's not easier to write." The few times they got my name right was when 1. it was manager on the register, or 2. people who lined up after me yelled at them for me to get the name right so they can hurry up and take order from the next customer.
