In 2013 they skipped the strains entirely, and 2014 they did the temporary few day strains via potion (that weren't skins, and couldn't be spread via biting.) Both years sucked.
Seriously. We have enough holidays that are simply random event or clicking fests (not that I don't like those). The zombie strains bring the entire site together. It's damn fun. It's incredibly creative in its design, and truly a unique holiday. A favorite amongst many users.
Hopefully they learned from their mistakes in 2013 and won't try to go forward with the event without fixing the wardrobe hex problem.
I know, I was around for every Survival there ever was so I agree that it sucks when there are no new strains.

Yeah, I agree on the potion strains being made wearable. Right now, there's just no use for them. Pretty sure I still have a stockpile sitting somewhere in my account from when they were released.
I'm excited for getting candy hearts and more la'mour stuff. :D
Also, always look forward for new strains. Been here since the first time they happened and always looking forward to see the strains progress.

Or just make them not heal themselves after they progressed. Please. :(
I loved the strains, the years with no new strains was so sad. I had cured myself to get the new strain only to find out later that I cured for nothing and got no new strains. I had the zombie skin for a year only to find that out.
I hated the temporary strains with potions thing. It's much better to have them available as wardrobe so you can wear them later on, too. Idr which temporary strains they were, but there were a couple I was sad to see go and it just kind of made the whole idea pointless to me. 2013 Idr so well as I'd just started that week I think, but that sucks there were no strains
It wasn't a mistake that those years didn't have the skins, from a lore standpoint it made sense. :P Also going to point out that hexes/skins are two different things. :)
I won't spoil too much because would actually murder me (at least i'd be underground then), but we've got some great things for this year! I'm looking forward to the background on some of the holiday specific characters (Ecks! Skitters! etc) that we'll be adding to the Subetapedia. :)
I can't see Rah being all murderous....I think she'd get someone to do the dirty work for her...like General Woundwort
Sorry for implying that 2013 was a mistake -- the event definitely went as intended. I was more referring to the sense that many were bummed by the lack of infections. It was just kind of a let down for any looking forward to the event for the infection aspect. However it did fit with the lore released and all. I didn't mean it as any personal attack at the staff and sorry if it was taken that way.
In regards to hex/skins being different things... So, I know that skins are definitely on a different wavelength (as plenty of people are using them), but for the hex's and infections, I was operating off of the quote on the wardrobe page:
Hexes: This is the system that powers things like snowballs, zombie infections, face paint, etc. We&;re working on getting this moved over, but it&;s a fairly large system, so your avatar will be missing these things around the site.

we are planning to reimplement hexes (which is what zombie skins are before the final stage) before survival starts, don't worry :) maybe not every kind of hex, but definitely zombie strain progressions will work!
That is great to hear! I am really happy with all the new strains these past years. I especially loved the bloody ones and the sea animals. So CUUTUE!
i hope it starts this weekend bc i cant wait! its literally the only seasonal holiday i can participate in because it coincides with my semester break :)
