Generally speaking, mm/dd/yyyy is considered a standard American format. It's my understanding that it's typically the other way around (dd/mm/yyyy) across the pond, according to my British former-coworker. :)

Wikipedia tells me that YYYY/MM/DD is preferred in Canada -- interesting! But it also says that the other two are common, as well. xD
