My mate, Weldon, is rather a traditionalist when it comes to celebrating Saint Patricks Day, Welly and I started the day with coffee, and a 'full breakfast' of bacon, sausages, black and white, baked beans, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes halved, some potato leftover from yesterdays dinner, soda bread, butter, jam, strong 'Irish' breakfast tea and orange juice.
We nibble on scones and tea during the day, but pause for a light tea at 4:00.
At noon, we took a little walk through the forest to a place the wee creatures call 'The Cathedral' a small grove of Sequoia Redwoods, and said a prayer of thanks to our Maker for our many blessings. It's what little creatures do.
We ventured a dip in the swollen Misty Creek and were not surprised at how cold it was. Misty Creek at this time of year is merely melted snow. Needless to say, we didn't get much more then our bottoms wet, the creek is too swift to venture in up to our necks.
A full Tea 'Dinner' was late this evening and consisted of cottage pie, colcannon, barmbrack, and tonight, we also had some cabbage and carrots at my insistence. Welly isn't fond of boiled dinner, and we cannot get corned beef briskets here in our village.
While not traditional, I love gingersnaps, and almond-anise biscotti for after dinner sweets. I especially love dipping my ginger snaps in dark Irish Stout ale or Irish Whiskey. I chose to have Whiskey and gingersnaps tonight, Welly chose to enjoy a few pints of stout. He played several reels and jigs on his penny whistle and I danced and sang until we were both breathless and fell into each other's paws. It was just the two of us, the evening was warm and the moon is just now coming up. We'll be heading off to bed soon.
I'm not Irish, but Weldon's family originated from Ireland a long time ago (His clan name is Saint George). He is unable to trace his lineage or the location of his clan's origin.
The idea of green ale somehow seems like swimming in a pond filled with algae, which I've done many a time.
I love you all, my Bear Family, Just wishing you all a very pleasant Saint Patricks Day...please forgive the ramblings...but that's what I do....( giggle )
:" I will most certainly pray for your brother-in-law, that he recovers. I will also pray for you , your wife and the rest of your family in this crisis, that you will have peace, comfort and strength.
I'm not complaining about getting a gift but I think someone was confused or something cuz the gift said this in it "Happy birthday from one LairBear to another!" well it is NOT my birthday that is not until Dec. but I appreciate the thought and if are the one that sent this to me I will happily send them back so you can give them to the right person oh and sorry for the ping

Hello, bears. I've just agreed to go into work a couple of hours early and subsequently come to the unpleasant realization that I forgot to buy more coffee yesterday and am therefore out of the stuff. Seeing as I woke up much earlier than I needed to today, I suppose that means I'll be leaving the house even earlier so that I can get a little bit of caffeine into my system. Hope everyone else has a lovely day.
That sounds like it was a lovely evening. My family gets together for St. Patrick's Day every year, though not always on the day itself. Usually we have our dinner on the nearest Saturday to make it easier for everyone who works all week but that couldn't be done as I'm closing up at work tonight. We had two big corned beef briskets to honor the thread of Irish Americans in our family, boiled along with cabbage, carrots, turnips, parsnips, and potatoes, as well as some roasted potatoes, parsnips, and turnips. I make potato bread for everyone every year and my dad always buys a new bottle of some Irish whiskey or another. This year he got one from West Cork, which is actually where my brother-in-law was born and raised. It was excellent, though I don't think it would have gone well with gingersnaps unless they had a bit of icing to give them a slightly sweeter taste.
- loved reading about your day! Sounds perfect and it made me hungry :)
- it seems the instant my eyes open in the morning I am thinking about coffee! I know that feeling when you are out of coffee and forgot to buy it. I have a little bit of instant coffee for those "emergencies" ...not my preference but will get me through the crisis :)
- I will continue to keep you and yours in my prayers... ❤
: It's good to see you, I have missed seeing you around.
Awe, sorry to hear you ran out of coffee....
Coffee is difficult for us to get, but Welly always manages to obtain some each week at Market. In the likely event that we run out, he always has a stash of breakfast tea as a backup. We've been drinking a lot of breakfast tea lately. I like my tea fully dressed.
Dipping one's gingersnap into ale or whiskey is an acquired taste and I'm the only one in my clan who does it, but I always dip my cookies in something, tea, coffee, etc. I love complex flavors.
: Thank you my dear.
: I will continue to pray for your brother-in-law and your family. Thank you for the update. You take care of yourself.
~ this is late... so sorry! prayers and hugs all around
- sorry to hear about the crazy in your last few weeks. Hope everyone is feeling as well as they can hugs

Coffee and I have a complicated relationship these days, what with all of my medical issues. Can't drink too much of it anymore but can't survive a busy day without it, either! That being said, I am also a little bit of a coffee snob and I can't stomach instant. Haha.
I've recently taken to drinking more tea again. I absolutely love it and have at least 50 different types at the moment. When I get it into my head to make cookies, I never drink a cup without eating a few. I haven't made any cookies lately, though. Now you've got me thinking about it, I'll have to change that.
I hope to be around more now that I'm getting into something of a groove with my new responsibilities at work. I'm very much looking forward to Masquerade.
- I have 56 slots but I haven't bought all the ones I can yet.
- big fingers crossed for your bro
I have one waiting. I just don't know whether to get a Neela or one of the elephant types.

When I was in university, I was a lot less picky. Then I studied in Guatemala and everything changed. I mean, I'll still drink pretty much anything but instant when I really need it but I'm a lot pickier now about what I keep around the house.
