i guess they hoped I'd look at the cynicism, the sarcastic nature of her, her isolation and unpopular aspect and think that those are negatives. Rather than me focusing on the sheer vapid and shallow nature of the person making the comment.

I love when people try to suggest those aspects are bad. Like. Clearly you've never spoken to me. I've been able to surround myself with, dominantly, Daria fans.

People who seem to think that intelligence and thinking for yourself is a bad thing just wind up not worth my time. To me, I'd rather talk with and associate with people who actually use their brain and form opinions based on other factors than taking everything at face value, blindly trusting what other people say or simply using eenie meenie miney mo to make their choices in life. Sure, maybe we are jaded--maybe the 90's teen was forced into becoming that way because of the outlining social factors. Yet, maybe we were just sick of the world posing--people pretending everything is happy--everything is a Leave to Beaver kind of a world and we had a more realistic expectation of it.

I tend to find lots of Daria fans too. A girl who wasn't afraid to be who she was-- even if she wasn't this idealistic poster-child, she wasn't fake. She had principles and stood by them. She didn't ask for forgiveness at being who she was. Female/minority empowerment. Hell, the show even outright in the show had the two black characters know they were tokens in a parade to show how diverse and ethnic the school was. South Park might have broken a lot of "rules" but Daria did a lot of that first. So really the people who make such remarks really only serve to show how uneducated they are because they clearly lost the overall message behind it. -takes a breath- lol Clearly I'm not opinionated at all.
