(OOC:
No, the post is too long. The spoiler trick does not work any more, so I'll need to split up every story post. :(
Going to fix it now.)
(OOC - - thank you, that explains why the puzzle seemed to be very incomplete! :-)
Still can't see anything in your post , but when I quote it now, I get more - again for those of you who also can't see anything there.
the second part shows up just fine (for me) in post 36 )
thanks for the post update, it's very much appreciated! :)
What time is it?
Nightshade smirks at the detective, "I know exactly what time it is. it's time - " he shifts his gaze and eyes the cat mischievously "to broil a nasty little kitty, come here and show me those pearly whites!"
"Come on Nightshade, we don't have time to play with that cat now, we have a murder to solve, besides he's gone again." HeiYu is relieved the Dervishire Cat has disappeared again. She really does not want to be in the middle of a cat fight between him and her partner. "First, let's figure out what time it is for Lapin."
"Boring!" exclaimed Nightshade, he had learned long ago to give a very puzzling smirk when people aren't sure if he was joking or not. What they didn't know was that Nightshade never joked, even when he was kidding he meant every single word he said.
Besides, he wasn't a cat person and this one didn't even bother to catch the mouse that ran up the clock just now!!!!
HeiYu conjures up a basic math problems textbook and reads quietly for a few minutes. "Okay, if Now is the current time, Before is the time from noon till now, and After is the time from now until noon tomorrow, then Before/4 + After/2 = Now." She thinks a bit. "Can't quite come up with an exact match using hours."
Nightshade is interested despite himself. "Why not try minutes then?"
HeiYu will never admit it, but she is very impressed by how quickly he thinks of that. "Yes, that works!" golden numbers started popping in the air as HeiYu used the air itself as a blackboard to calculate the time.
OOC EDIT Jan 1 8:00am(I thought we had to send the actual time via Smail, adding it here)
The time is 9:36 PM because from noon to 9:36 PM is 9 times 60 plus 36 equals 576 minutes, and from 9:36 PM to noon tomorrow is 14 times 60 plus 24 equals 864 minutes. One quarter of 576 is 144 minutes. Half of 864 minutes is 432 minutes. Adding those together makes 576 minutes, which is 9 hours and 36 minutes. Hope that helps you, Lapin."
Nightshade "well, your original calculation makes sense as well if the time is noon... I mean a quarter of zero time elapsed is still zero and half of 24 hours is 12 which is again Noon."
HeiYu shock her head. "it must 9:36pm, I'm sure of it!"
Edit ends
"Ok, got it! Come on Nightshade, let's go figure out some questions to help solve this murder."
Travelers Prevail
The Travelers got together and each whispered their opinion as best they could, though some were a little confused. Kronus pondered the time as...
"His body was found at 4 pm, one quarter of the time that has elapsed since noon makes it a quarter of 4 hours which is =1 hour. Half the time from now to mid-day tomorrow which is 4 pm to noon the next day is =8+12=20. So half of 20=10. Then the answer is 10+1=11am is the time Toadie was grilled."
Chook reminded all that we had to use a time they would understand here so eventually all agreed on what to say...
"A hair past a freckle, going on a mole"
Yet what questions and to whom knowing they were allowed three. Willow wondered also if they should take the answer as truth and asked Emma and May to conjure some magic which they hoped would let them know truth or a lie when the suspects spoke.
Emma and May took a few steps back and whispered between themselves. Both reaching into their bags they pulled out several ingredients along with a small book. As May opened the book and read ever so carefully, step by step Emma followed her instructions. Within a few minutes the serum was ready to go, it was the perfect solution as it was odorless and virtually undetectable. The vial would only need to be opened near who was being questioned. They quickly joined their friends and handed over the small vial of serum.
The team then had a conundrum. Who to use it on? Chook voiced her opinion.. just ask of the three if they were the murderer..it would eliminate those. Kronus felt asking the fiddle brothers was a bad idea... "None will tell the truth." Everyone then agreed to use the vial on one of the brothers when asking if they were the murderer.
Two left, did they have a clue who killed the toadie? Watching each accusingly hoping to find the murderer or murderess.
1)Mary-Sue 2)Countess
The team crossed fingers, toes and Willow even managed to cross her eyes behind her thick glasses hoping they received some solid answers.
(OOC: - Here's The Golden Trio's time solution RP! Sorry for sending the answer in an sMail at first, I didn't quite understand the instructions at first.
)
The Golden Hour?
"Great. Math. Just what I wanted," Chloe said with a huff.
"Math's not the issue, Chloe! I have no idea what time it is!" Devin said as she peered around to see if she could spy anyone else's watch.
"Don't you listen?" Marion asked, rolling her eyes. "The fluffy one said 'The Count was found at four o'clock', didn't he?"
"Oh, right," she replied sheepishly. "So, the time between now and noon is 4 hours."
"And a quarter of that is 1," Marion added.
"What was the next line?" Chloe asked. "It was 'half of the time remaining between now and midday tomorrow', right?"
Marion rolled her eyes again. Devin glared at her.
"Yes, Chloe. So to get to midnight, it would be 8 hours... then another 12 to get to noon," Devin deduced.
"Half of 20 is 10!" Chloe interjected.
"Meaning the time the Count was killed was 11," Marion finished.
"See, Chloe? Not so bad. Let's go tell Lapine!"
The trio hurried off to tell Lapine their solution to the Cat's time riddle. Now all that was left on their plate was their three questions. They had a good feeling they knew exactly what questions to ask to figure out their culprit.
The Watsons gathered together to determine their next steps. Webby started. "I think we should talk to the Inspector and these five individuals." she said, holding out a short list.
Galaxia shook her head. "No, we've got to examine that body furthur." Webby wrinkled her nose and said, "What more do you think we could gain by looking at a dead body?"
"It could hold more clues for us. Like a item or mark overlooked during the initial examination." Ichigo nodded her head in agreement and added, "I think we should question the inspector. I think he knows more than he's telling us."
Ava spoke up. "I agree with looking at the body, as horrible as that sounds. But I also agree with Webby on her list of suspects to speak to."
"I think the first one to speak to should be the countess," Calie said. "Relatives of the deceased are always suspect. Or at least that's what all the mystery novels tell me."
Webby collected all the opinions and options and came up with the final list. "Alright, we're all in agreement then? Let's get started!"
Jill looked up from her notepad, which was filled with scribbled notes she made when they had examined the Count's body.
"Curious..." She muttered.
"What is?"
"The murder itself." Jill frowned as she brushed aside the hair that covered her right eye, only to have it fall back in place. "There's just too many questions. I don't even know where to start."
"As for the time that Lapine is so concerned about. I think I've got it. Let's see...
So a quarter of the time from noon to four o'clock would be 1 hour. The time remaining between four and noon the next day would be 20 hours. Half of 20 hours is 10 hours. 1+10=11 If we go by military time, it would be 11am."
The troublesome time
The mystery was beginning to sound all too confusing. Nevertheless, Trixie decided to concentrate on one task at a time. She pulled out her pocket watch, "Tell Lapin what time it is, oh that's easy!" She looked at the watch in her hand. "Oh!" A perplexed expression crossed her face "I'm sure I had this reconditioned recently. It's an heirloom, you know. But look, the second hand keeps going one way and then going back the other. Nutsy must be right, everything does run rather oddly here. Guess we will have to do this the hard way then."
She pulled out her trusty notebook and pen. Down one side of the page, she started writing down a list of times, every minute, every hour. She looked up, "Hmm.. this might take some time... Okay, a quarter of the time elapsed since noon... Hmmm… oh stars above, this is going to take me forever." She calculated the length of time and filled in the next column. "Half the time remaining between now and midday tomorrow, ooh, tricky..." This takes a bit longer. "Now we add these together.."
Myra looked up from her notices, seeing Trixie pulling out her pocket watch and looking confused, too.
She also made notes of the witness statements and circulating rumors yet this most wondrous land with its strange concept of time and incalculable characters conducting irrational and sometimes totalitarian acts didn’t adapt well to her highly structured mind. Or was it contrariwise? She wasn’t adapting well perhaps?
Myra shook her head in disbelief. This had to end. The young alchemist leapt up to her feet, determined. Shimmershadow whinnied, startled and tossed his silvery mane. “Sorry, love!” Myra murmured apologetically, “I have to find Krios to discuss my musings…” And in a blink, she was gone, looking out for her friend.
Myra found Krios sitting on a stump, humming a melody in his throat, his fiery red hair shining in the sunlight. Or was it the moonlight? Myra blinked and tried to clear her mind. Approaching, she tried to catch what Krios had composed, perhaps it would trigger a thought.
The young mage looked up and quickly tried to gather the rhymes he had thought about this last hour.
"Hey Diddle Diddle, the cat and the Fiddle, Was the murder pushed and then hushed? Or was it too hot for the cat with the pot? Is the beauty at least or is she the beast?
The body was crushed, this looks really rushed. Or would it be fervor to an observer? Where were the gloves, were they taken by doves? Who is telling a lie, who is next to die?“
Krios sighed and looked up to his demons, playing and chatting in the air. “They don’t have a clue either, nor have I” he admitted. “I have millions of questions, though!”
“So you think the cat has his claws in it, too?” Myra asked, curious. “Definitely!” Krios exclaimed and pushed his wayward hair out of this eyes. “Cats are clever and passionate and have their own mind and this one wouldn’t leave a footprint also.” “Yet perhaps a hair print!“ Myra said thoughtfully. “We should search for hair and fur around the body. With a quick identification spell, you could find the owner or I could cook up an identification enation concoction yet this would take longer…” Myra mused.
Krios stood up and wielded his wand. Finally, there was action! “Let´s go and tell the others!” he demanded, already turning his back on Myra, scanning the area for their friends.
“Wait! What about the other questions?!” Myra shouted, thinking about which of the Fiddles would be Mary Sue´s secret lover or was it placid Percy? Still waters run deep... Like Krios said, questions upon questions. Myra smoothed down her artificial wings, adjusted her sun and moon belt and began to follow Krios through the crowd. At least, she saw Trixie working out the time questions as she left to search Krios. Seems to be a clever one, their new teammate. Myra was sure she would have the answer to the riddle by now.
Akalia felt utterly ridiculous in the clothing she was forced to wear, but it didn’t seem as bad as the situation they had all found themselves in at the moment. She scanned over her teammates to see what each was doing and Trixie caught her eye first. She watched as the newest team member pulled out a pocket watch and then a notebook while she tried to work out the time. The elf took another look around and saw Krios and Myra pondering over the murder, with much of the thoughts coming through in one of Krios’ songs.
The song stuck in her head, Akalia looked up to the sun and tried to block it with her small hat.
“A quarter of the time since noon…” Akalia pointed directly above her with her left hand and used her right to find the position of 4pm. Moving her right hand to a new position, she looked down to Gunther. “That would place the sun right about there, right? And next would be...”
Her only response was a quiet cry from her small partner.
“Stupid goat”

Even more troublesome time
Valera took a quick drink of ale from the almost empty mug in her hand as everyone around her seemed invested in their chosen tasks. Except for that damn elf and her stupid goat, standing there and pointing at different spots in the sky. Should have let Feng eat them when she had the chance. Though, it was never too late.
Next Valera focussed on Myra and Krios, the banter between them seemed to be about what questions that they wanted to ask.
Lilith still couldn’t wrap her head around the world they had stepped into, was up down or down up? Jasper on the other hand was loving every second of it, especially when the Dervishire Cat popped in and out of existence.
Lilith silently followed the others as they went about chattering and trying to make sense of everything that had happened since they got off the bun bus.
“Well this is certainly a pickle of a case we’ve stepped into.” She thought aloud. “The body certainly looks weird perhaps two or three people were in on it, or maybe it was staged to look that way.”
Jasper chuckled. “Well it sounds like the guy certainly deserved whatever he got.”
Lilith gave him a dirty look before nodding in agreement. “You aren’t wrong but still whoever did this will face their punishment, you can’t just take a life no matter how crappy that life makes other people feel.”
After finishing her drink, Val headed over to where the newest member of their team, Trixie, was. She was holding a notebook and writing a list of times down one side. Intrigued, Val moved closer to peer over her shoulder to see what the girl was writing. Just as she was about to catch a glance, Trixie exclaimed, "Oh my goodness! The time must be 9.36 p.m. A quarter of the time since noon is 2 hours 24 minutes, and a half of the time till noon tomorrow is 7 hours, 12 minutes. Add these together, we get 9 hours and 36 minutes!"
The sudden outburst scared the Viera slightly and she jumped back after nearly falling on her rump. Determined not to show how frazzled she was, Val called out to everyone that Trixie had solved the puzzle.
Lilith and Jasper made their way towards Trixie and Val as she heard her captain call out that the newest member had solved the puzzle.
The Pepperettes had dozed off, waiting for the next bits of the information they needed to start processing the suspect’s testimonies and completely exhausted from the food fiascos and all the topsy-turvy interactions that this “wonderland” had brought with it. In fact, they’d all completely forgotten that it was New Year’s Eve. Or, most of them had anyway.
The clock had barely started to chime the hour of 12 midnight when there was a clanging and a clattering of pots and pans above their heads.
Leaping up, prepared to fight off lizards or frogs or...who knows what, Love grabbed for the nearest weapon, only to find herself surrounded by a whirling Tea who was dancing. Again.
“NEW YEAR! It’s a NEW YEAR!” Tea sang in no particular key while banging for all she was worth on a giant pasta pot.
“FOR GOODNESS SAKES ALIVE!” Love yelled, “I could have beheaded you right now.” and under her breath she muttered that maybe she still should. The rest of the Pepperettes, now far from dozing, joined her in various and loud protests of Tea’s impromptu New Year’s celebrating.
“The ONE time we actually have peace enough to take a cat nap…!” Terrena starts up and Tea interrupts. “A CAT NAP! Haha! You said a CAT NAP! Get it??” Terrana, also known as “Cat”, just glares at her and throws up her hands.
“Seriously though!” Celeste (Who was sometimes called MissEventful) sighed and shook out her gown. “We all could have used that sleep.”
“But on the BRIGHT side!” Tea was still swirling around them with giddy energy no one else could ever figure out where she got, “I have refreshments! And I was the first to say happy New year! So none of you can say it now.” She produced a tray with coffee, tea and some tiny biscuits, which the team grumbling thanked her for.
“Well, now that we’re...bright eyed and bushy tailed,” Frieda said and then paused “Oh, excuse me. I forget that I’m the only one with a tail! But...do I hear Nutsy talking? I wonder if that’s important.”
“Oh, my fur and whiskers!” They hear Nutsy exclaim, but then the voices lower and the conversation becomes garbled.
The Pepperettes grow quiet, straining to hear the conversation. Hollis jumps up. “Forget this! My ears are too tired to strain. Let’s just walk on over and see what’s the matter!”
The group edges up to Nutsy and Lapine just in time for Nutsy exasperated chatter. Seeing them, both Nutsy and Lapine sigh with relief. Before they know it, they’re tasked with figuring out the time and Nutsy and Lapine hurry off to ...who knows where. “I KNEW we shouldn’t have come over here!” Lovecraft sighs. “Now we have to do Math.” Reaper and Kaiidth both stare in a daze. “We haven’t even woken up yet!” They protest.
“Well, HOLLIS did it so I say she fix it!” Tea says glibly. “No!” Hollis says. Spring quickly gets more coffee and tea for everyone. “How about we try...oh, maybe doing it together?” Celeste grins and Frieda nods. “Yes, let’s see what we can do!”
“If I'm not mistaken, the body was found at 4:00 PM when we all arrived for Tea Time. So, I'm going to say that one quarter of the time elapsed since noon is one hour. Then, the time remaining until midday tomorrow is 20 hours and half that time is ten, so ten plus one is eleven. The correct time is eleven??? But i am frequently wrong.” Frieda sniffs.
“Well, I reckon that’s a start!” Hollis says encouragingly. “Since I can't math worth anything” She laughed. “So would a quarter of a time since noon still be before 1pm? And the time remaining between now…” she trails off.
Everyone looks as confused as Hollis sounded and after a few more moments Celeste says “Does anyone else have anything?” Tea holds up her pad “YES! It’s a UNICOR… Hey! Stop! That’s mine!” She shouts as Love slaps her pad down with a hiss. “You’re not helping!”
“Well, what about this?” Celeste sets her pad down with this solution.
12:15pm + 15 hours from 9:30pm to midday divided in half is 7.5 hours = 4:30pm (4:45pm or 16:45)
Reaper looks it over, and nods. “I think that looks good!” (Most) of the Pepperettes agree. “I suppose if you just added a Unicorn in there somewhere it’d work.” Tea grumbles.
"Well, we know the time when we started, but it took so long to figure it out, I think we're too tired to figure out this mess," sighs Lapin.
"We're getting nowhere," Nutsy agrees.
"We can't give up!" Francine is firm.
"You don't have to," purrs a voice from the tree above, where Dervishire is pirouetting on a branch. "Cursula should have some real clues for you, and I know how to get you to her."
"Will you take us, please?" Francine flutters her eyelashes and crosses her legs delicately.
Nutsy scoffs, but Dervishire gives a little growl and drops down in a smooth spiral.
"All right, but you MUST dress properly or she'll kick us all out, including me. She has specific tastes. She likes elegant looks with chic accessories, loathes pink and white, and despises hats. I'll give you until Jan. 8th at 11:59 Subeta time to dress properly--wear shoes you can dance in."

HeiYu Blinked as Nightshade came out of the dressing room.
"ummmmm, Nightshade?"
Nightshade "what?"
HeiYu "did you.... get your period in there?" The words were out before she fully realized what she just said and blushed
Nightshade smirked at her reaction "Someone will bleed today, but it's not going to be me. Jokes aside what are we going to do about that" He points at Mee.
HeiYu looks at her Familer then at her partner "What about Mee? She's perfect as is. For one thing she's golden not white or pink, secondly not only is dying animals morally questionable it's against the law! look it up! It's a Misdemeanor in California, illegal in Florida and earns you a $100 fine in Massachusetts!"
Nightshade shook his head "Aren't those laws specific to certain animals though like Rabbits and chicks? it's common practice to dye them for Easter which raised some animal cruelty concerns. You know as well as I do that Celebs and Daddy girls love to dye their purse dogs so the law was adjusted in 2013."
Nightshade paused as he took in the look on his partner's face. they both knew where this was headed...
He smiled finally "So if the witch Queen asks, we can just show her a copy of the law book. after all Mee did come out of an egg making her technically a little chick, if she is willing to be prosecuted for animal cruelty let her. Mee stays as is.
HeiYu looked up at her partner and smiled brightly, she knew he had a heart.... somewhere... under a pile of rubble maybe but it was still there!
"Thanks Nightshade, I'll add a filter spell to Mee just incase, anyone looking at her will see her as light blue and gold. You never commented on my dress though, what do you think? Is this acceptable for the occasion? It seems like a formal affair" She worried the dress itself was too simple for such an elegant place so had enchanted it with magical embroidery that animated and twinkled every time she moved. Did she go over-board?
Nightshade looked her up and down "You look the same as always, what about the dress, isn't that what you always wear? hurry up and get dressed for that hag her majesty! "
HeiYu Sighed "thanks partner...." well, she's not over-dressed at least...
