Why are people so stupid?

To your . It happened many, many years ago, but I got a call once saying I won a cruise trip. I knew instantly it was a scam, so I decided to play along, and they were all excited about it and upbeat and saying what a great opportunity it was and I kept saying "OMG, I won a trip, I won a trip" and kept acting stupid. This goes on for awhile and they finally did their pitch. "So all we need from you now, is your bank account number for processing mailing the tickets and your social security number to prove you're a U.S. citizen." I then got real serious with them and said, "what do you think I am stupid? I know this is a scam and I'm going to call the police as soon as we hang up. I have your number on caller ID".
Dealing with stupid people is pretty much my work. I work in the customer service for a pretty big energy provider...
Customer: WHY DID YOU CUT OFF MY ELECTRICITY?! Me: ...because you didn't pay. Customer: I'M GOING TO THE POLICE, THE LAWYER AAAHRGHGHRGH Me: Okay then!
(Thank god my company actually allows us to treat such customers harsh!)
