Back before they did this, You could easily look at the high score table and see 1 pet had beaten Saggi 4+ times, showing that a single pet had been used to generate 4+ Lucents or 4+ Psycho Smasher Scrolls.

A lot of this has been fixed by the best loot being achievement only, but without the stat penalty, you could use a single pet to generate massive amounts of wealth again.

If the pet really is going to a new intended owner, and not trying to abuse the loot system, they shouldn't care about losing a couple hundred stats, when they are gaining thousands for free.

Even now, you could probably make a 1999/1999/1999/1999 stat pet and transfer it around to a bunch of people with challengers unlocked and probably make around 30mil+ per month (with a lot of effort). But remove or raise that cap, and it shoots to a couple hundred mil per month pretty quick.

I do understand that, I'm just still wondering what the damage actually is that is done by pet lending then anyway. I'm sure it's a legitimate worry, I'm just missing what, with the few times this would likely happen, what it would actually do to make it hurt things? I'm obviously not very big on battling yet as my best pet is only tier 4 right now, so I am not experienced enough to know the specifics in this area.

EDIT:

Oh wow, okay, I didn't see either of your posts till I made my post. Explaining it like that definitely makes sense, I obviously was not aware of people being able to make SPs in such a way, so I can definitely see that as being necessary to minimize the chances of something like that happening.

I can tell you they implemented this change in Novamber 2011, because that is when Rouland came out and someone made 4 Manifesting weapons in 1 night, combined value of around 1bil at the time.

Thats when they finally stepped in and did something about it.

I'm personally disappointed it doesn't apply to all pets. I still see tier 8 pets and lower being passed around during events.
Pet losing 10% of stats 8x over for being passed around = big deal Pet losing 10% of stats 1 time for being transferred to a new owner = not a big deal

and I think that's kind of the point of the rule in the first place. I do agree there should be a warning letting you know what is going to be lost. I've always kind of wondered does it hit all the stats or only the ones over 2000? Does intel count?

Thank you for the explanations. I couldn't figure out how to explain it without targeting. :)

It says 1 stat over 1999 and 10% loss to every stat.

Gonna throw in my two cents and say leave it as is with the 10% stat penalty as there are ways around the 30 day transfer. Some site events like with morostide, you know the opponents are coming out towards the end of October so what is to stop someone from lending out their high tiered pet to someone during the beginning of September so they can battle in October? At least with the stat loss and wait period you can gain back that 10% while you wait 30 days. Considering you didn't train that pet to the high tier to begin with and got it for free, I say it's a small price to pay.

I am also in agreement to having the 30 day wait apply to adoption center pets.

[edit]

Just to add a little more clarification to my original post - The example I gave is one reason why the 10% stat removal should be kept to prevent lending out pets for battle challengers. There are battlers out there that have multiple T11+ pets to battle with. Person A can lend out one pet to person B without a high tiered pet in order for person B to win top tier prizes while person A can still win prizes with their other pets. The original owner has no intent of actually giving their pet away, they are just allowing for someone else to participate in battling without putting in any effort. I realize not everyone is trying to take advantage of the system, but unfortunately when situations like this exist, rules have to be put in place to prevent bending them.

I would like some clarity though on the stat removal. If it's just strength that is over 2k, then is the 10% removed just from strength or is it 10% spread over all stats? Is intelligence included/affected?

I'm not a battler. My highest tiered and only battle pet is only at a tier 5. That said, I do remember when this was implemented as a means of deterring people from passing around high tiered battle pets in order to win battle events and get the subsequent loot from battling really high tiered battle opponents. I remember it being a big deal in because I remember it was really only a certain group of people who were doing the transferring. I.e. high battlers just kept passing their high tier battle pets around constantly to each other and winning loot and more loot, and more loot, etc..

Overall, I'm personally fine with the stat reduction as I believe it equalizes the playing field more because even though the tier is still high, the stats are reduced. If a player wants to get the stats of an adopted pet back up to the original of the previous owner then, they have to train to get those stats up.

That said, I do think that info about exactly which stats get reduced would be beneficial for transparency purposes.

The 30 day thing is to prevent multiple loot copies being generated, not to prevent people from battling without any effort.

If someone adopts a pet out to someone in September in anticipation of Morostide opponents, that pet is still only going to get one set of loot - no matter if the original owner had it or it was transferred to someone else.
