Just popping in as the MM of this forum to post: I have been monitoring this thread, and I saw a post about at least having MMs communicate a few pages back. I haven't been posting because MMs don't know anything that you don't know. I don't know why there are 502/504 errors (they drive me crazy too) or the specifics (or even generalities) about what's being done to address. If staff has news to share, they won't funnel it through a MM first.

I have to agree with some of the other posts here about how it doesn't feel like staff is taking the critique here very well or perhaps the critique is being misunderstood?

I don't believe anyone is genuinely asking for an update for every tiny detail of the site. I'm pretty sure everyone understands that in itself would be impossible. Updates when something medium-big is happening though, would be lovely and appreciated! And I would be so happy with a thread, or a small area where those updates ALL ON THEIR OWN would get posted. A place where users can view, but cannot post so that that information isn't misplaced or buried under replies.

It is not the job of users to decide where staff places that information. Blaming users for the information not being in an accessible place is ridiculous. You see this thread, and you have a response to this information and that's great, but instead of posting the information here where 95% of the population isn't going to find it, it might help if you made a news post / an announcement / a thread with only staff updates instead.

Flight Rising really has this down, as they have a bar on the right side of the main page with these tiny little mini updates and I cannot stress enough how well informed this makes me feel as a user.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but the reason I personally am so upset about the lack of communication here isn't because I'm hating on staff at all. It's because I love this site so fricking much and I want it to improve and get better. C:

tl;dr Instead of replying to threads like this, where you know information will be lost, make some form of an announcement area for this type of information so that when threads like this do pop up, the user base can help each other by pointing in the right direction instead of having to hunt through the forums / news / comments / offsite crap.

Wasn't this twitter account made for the purpose of keeping the userbase informed on things that are being worked on, but aren't "important enough" for a news post?

And isn't that the purpose of the status site, too? Keeping people informed on things that are worked on, resolved, keeping track of things that were done and of issues that staff is aware of?

@ Mesmer Let's be real, in the last 12 years, there has never been one clear, concise, reliable place to seek out for information.

We have the official facebook page, two twitter accounts (subeta and subetakeith), an instagram account (why?), at least four tumblr accounts (subeta, subetakeith, subetatech, subetacreative), the site status page, the announcements forum and those are just the ones that I'm aware of. There might be more.

And still we're expected to downright stalk staff posts to see if a thing is being worked on, if it's been resolved, or if they're even aware of it.

btw, the announcements forum was specifically made for informative posts and announcements that are not important enough to be actual news posts. It was made about 4-ish years ago (if not a bit longer), after users expressed disappointment and concern about the same thing we're complaining about now.

Right now, it's not even beating a dead horse. It's way past that point. And it's exhausting to try to get this across every time. It's exhausting for users, it's frustrating for staff. We have so many social media accounts that nobody knows where to post what any more and where to go looking for information. Everything is everywhere and your most reliable source of information is still bookmarking the recent forum posts page for some of the staff members and programmers. Even then, things end up forgotten and apparently it's somehow our fault.

JFC I didn't even know how many extra off-site stuff there really was =/ It's not even like any of this is properly linked on site somewhere that's easy to find either. Unless the site goes down and you get the page that specifically links a few of these places (and maybe not even all the ones needed? rofl) how're we supposed to know?

IDK but I cannot read minds x'D Maybe the staff can and think we can too? =P jk/jk

2/4 of the tumblr accounts appear to be AWOL. The twitter accounts get updated every now and then (subetakeith seems to be AWOL since July). Facebook page also gets updated every now and then. The instagram account is a site art/WIP showcase of sorts if memory serves.

I don't even know. :/ Why have so many social media accounts on so many platfoms when the team is so small that handling one or two accounts properly is an issue?

Before anyone jumps on my back - yes, I realize that different staff members handle different accounts. I also realize that it makes the site look sloppy and unprofessional if the fanart and official art showcases get way more activity than the official twitter, facebook and tumblr pages. You know - the places where people would usually go to seek information in the event of site downtime, scheduled maintenance, or sitewide bugs.

Couldn't help but notice that the last post on the Subeta Facebook was about registering to vote. Made last Friday. And don't get me wrong, for American adults, being reminded to register is an important message.
But if Subeta staff has the time and ability to make a non-Subeta related post that is for only a segment of it's member-base (since many players are either too young to vote or not American), that means staff has time to communicate about the things that are actually relevant to Subeta. Like a reminder about the downtime. Or ANYTHING about what the downtime did or even did not do.

Stuff like this, in my opinion, is what indicates that there are people on staff that simply do not care anymore. That don't respect the players enough to be open and honest and transparent with them. And that's sad.

Subeta just spent the past five minutes refusing to load past a white page with the title showing the standard URL instead of "Subeta" then whatever page I'm on. 502s were thrown before that.

Per the status page, we're working on it. We've got a couple of people on this morning monitoring issues and resetting the site as needed.

But why doesn't anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it after it's been going on for over a month? I appreciate that staff is trying to be active now, but this shouldn't be an issue at all like it has been.

With the issues plaguing the site, lack of communication, and the fact that the site doesn't seem to really be meeting it's daily quotas, I really worry about the current expected lifespan of the site. And that makes me really sad - especially since I've been playing for nearly 11 years now. :(

It's hardly surprising that people start wondering about the site's future.

I activated a one month GA but can't take advantage of having 2.5K unique items in my shops because the autopricer just freezes up. I'm so glad I didn't spend real money on this GA.

Daily goal ended at 35% last night.

We're at 7% today

I personally don't panic over Keith not being here, as long as other staff members can go and work on the site.

I'm hella more worried about daily goal being so low on a daily basis, now. Now, that's worrisome.

I want to say I've seen it mentioned before that the programmers don't necessarily have to be logged in to their accounts to work on the site. I don't have a source on that though.

[edit]

I found the post I was looking for: here

The entire thread is semi-related, and only from last summer (2015).

It's getting to be holiday season soon, so maybe people will start buying some more during the sales like Black Friday and whatever else. I know the daily goal is still important too, but maybe it will help.

It's hard to feel the desire to sink money into a site that doesn't seem to be able to take any of that money and improve things or afford to hire more staff to fix current issues. I've heard in the past that Keith wanted this site to be a social media site more than a pet or avatar site- but no one wants to come to a social media site that doesn't work more than half the time. There are still regular errors and new items or pet colors does not pacify people enough to make them want to put money into the site. I know I don't really feel like it considering the little incentive.

Sure, we have referral cards, but why would anyone want to refer someone to this site when that person couldn't even play it properly and wouldn't have the patience to put up with all the errors like longer time members do?

A few years ago, when cws were implemented, the site got flooded with money because everyone wanted cws. It was new and fun and cool. But four years later- it's gotten old and tired as there isn't much more that can be done that hasn't already been done. People aren't spending money like they used to (which goes beyond cws)- and I think a lot of it goes back to the site stability. There's a lot of errors and people get fed up and decide to stop supporting a site that never changes- where new features are added w/out said features being complete- so they sit there for years half finished w/ no clear date as to when they will be finished.

Personally I don't feel compelled enough to put money into a site that I can't feel confident will work any better than it has since the issues began (which was like, what, since the start? lol). Makes you wonder where all the money is going.

It's a vicious cycle really- w/out money, they can't make improvements- without improvements people won't spend their money.... but in the end I think that if ppl don't see things actually changing/improving, they're less likely to want to support.

Daily goals will be met on these dates

  • October 15% off weekend

  • November 1st

  • Black Friday, including November 15% off weekend

  • December 1st

  • Maaaaaaaaybe the days where new challengers are released, and even then, it might just hit 50%

Aside from that?

I'm not expecting it to hit high, because people just ain't feeling it anymore. Gold Accounts aren't worth the full 5$ per month anymore. Costume trunks? Everybody got what they wanted when they were released, and since then,no new ones were added. Delish? Cool, if you like fantasy outfits. If you do not, you'll pass. Angelic, or Miracle Potions? People wait for their loyalty box.

Fair enough ~

I wonder though if the daily goal is set to represent how much the site actually needs to keep running, or if it's a little ambitious. Like maybe they technically only need X amount, but it would be nice if they got more. I have no idea if they've mentioned anything like this before.

It is still a bit disheartening to clearly see that the site is losing support and people are leaving or becoming less interested than they used to be.

That thead is exactly why I can't help but scratch my head when players say that there isn't a communication issue on Subeta. Year after year, the same feedback is given by players: "We get that there are issues, and want staff to communicate with us more about what is happening"

To be frank, 's answer is a cop out. A crappy excuse for a business owner to give customers that are asking for communication.

Not when staff has neglected to fix the main reason people buy it. :/
