I just wanted to make clear that all contest entries are meant to be anonymous, so please remember not to include any identifying information in your stories or art descriptions! Things like your username or your pets&; names shouldn&;t be mentioned.
Hahahaha. This has yet to work on here. I mean, it's nice in theory, but you know people are sharing with friends off-site, also some people are wearing their HA entries as their HAs so like...how do you expect this to actually stay anonymous? We have yet to manage to make any of the anonymous entries entirely anonymous in previous contests.
Thank you for letting us know.But I think that an Admin needs to let the people who are entering the Writing part of the contest know what to do,since they can't use their UNs or their pet's name.

Nothing is truly anonymous, but we're looking to reduce the obvious instances when we can. We had a few entries with people including their username or pet name directly in their description ("this is my pet Soandso" vs. "this is my kumos"), so we're just trying to reduce what we can of it. You should still be able to have your entries largely as they were, you may just need to tweak how some sentences are worded so it isn't super obvious :)
I entered an HA, not a story. And yeah, I totally get that you're trying to reduce, it's just a fairly unrealistic goal to assume it will all stay anonymous (artists tend to have recognizable style, writers too, and half the camp entry HAs are running around being worn as well as entered).
I appreciate that you'd like it to not be a popularity contest (and really, I entered anyhow because yay forum titles! seriously, y'all are offering so many new ones and it makes my tiny heart overflow with joy because I love achievement titles), it's just that honestly, it's still mostly going to be that within the categories I think.
Still though - good luck to all entrants - I honestly hope folks vote for the ones they like best even if they don't happen to be friends' entries.
It's definitely something we dread every time we have a contest, and there isn't a ton we can do besides these types of (though minor) preventive measures. It's been really cool seeing the winners in the past though, often very broad and truly some amazing talent--not just someone popular. Then again, those with the huge followings are often very talented, so it's not even certain that they'd win just because of that anyway. FWIW, when staff have voted on contests it's so shielded from us that we have to have unravel the results at the end so we can even find out who won, haha!
Honestly, that's why I've personally been into trying to make more broad categories, so as not to just appeal to the same people and really give everyone a chance to utilize their niche and shine. I like being able to include things that everyone can do like create a HA, as well as the more complex tasks that involve making some sort of craft IRL.
I definitely like the multiple ways you can enter this time - it tries to encompass everyone a lot better. I also like that voting will be split by category - that was definitely something that I know y'all noticed was lacking when the beer/ale contest happened (since there was a lot of complaint from folks without art in their entry that they felt it was unfair since entries with art seemed favored - though I hold that I made something with my lack of skills so anyone totally could've haha). But yeah, I know you guys are trying and it is appreciated. Hopefully there are lots of great entries to choose from :)
Definitely! I expected that one to go over a bit better because it seemed fairly obvious that the more content you provided, the more you'd stand out. People also got insanely creative and it was so huge! Every contest we do we get more and more entries, so splitting it up like this and only allowing one entry per person should definitely help some of those problems.
Yeah, I was really surprised at how salty that got. Like, I have basically no art skills. I used Paint (PAINT!) to mock up a label. It wasn't terrible, I actually really like it (and wish someone would make it but like, better). And people were complaining like...y'all...you could've used paint. I'm sorry there were 9348230482 entries and I couldn't read every single one okay haha.
I like that you've got to pick an entry method and go with it, and I think that will hopefully help in giving more folks a better shot. I like seeing the creativity from people around the site, and hopefully there will be less salt this time around since there are so many ways to enter.
It would be nice if we could add a short title of sorts to our HA submissions.
I think it would be a good idea to allow short titles or descriptions for the HA submissions. Otherwise, some may not understand how the submissions relate to camping.

Seconding the question about line/paragraph breaks. And for that and stuff like italicizing, do we use the scode braces ([ ] )or the "greater than/less than" thingies (< > obviously I'm great at coding vocab)
does knitting count for sculpture? Could the "sculpture" piece have mixed media (ie paint, popsicle sticks, knitting)? As long as it isn't photo-shopped/digital, right?

I thought the masks people made in past contests were awesome. I actually kind of want to see sculptures this time. Stuff made out of clay... or really Play Doh would be awesome 8'D

Alright, I am becoming quite frustrated with the writing section. How do I know if my submission is fully submitted? I feel like I've submitted it every single day.
