Because of the obscene prices on several baking ingredients, I have just reached level 3. Like the first two levels, I have discovered that for every recipe I am missing one key ingredient that will require a second mortgage to acquire. I have been trying to hoard ingredients I anticipate needing so that I won't be in this situation, but alas, even "common" pepper now sells for over 400K. So my stupid questions are:

  1. Is there any point where I will "outgrow" the need for baking powder, vanilla, pepper, etc... and reach a level where all the ingredients -- at least for some recipes -- are affordable?

  2. Is there a list anywhere of all the ingredients needed for all of the recipes? That way I can at least be hoarding the right things.

I live in MN, and whatever you've heard... It's much worse.

I'm level 18 and in my experience this is just never gonna be cheap... Prices change quite a lot so you might find a recipe that is affordable for a while but it won't be that for long. Also, at my level, many recipes give only 1-2% experience. So you have to do up to a hundred successful baking attempts to get to another level. Thus, even a cheap recipe done hundreds of times will cost quite a lot. So IMO this is a very expensive game... and there's nothing so far worth so much work, like achieves for example. As for the list, I don't think there is any. When I restock food items, I restock everything that "might" get useful in the future.

It's especially obnoxious right now, price wise, now that there are brand new recipes are out and everyone remembers that Baking exists. In a couple of weeks (maybe a month or so) prices should equalize a little bit and it shouldn't be so expensive and by then you may have found some of the ingredients, if not all.

I too, hoard EVERYTHING just in case and that helps. I wish I'd thought of hoarding pepper.

There is a baking help thread in General Chat, but I'm not sure how updated it is. At the bakery, you can click on each recipe and see what ingredients are required, as long as you're not currently cooking something.

re: Baking help thread - if it's the one I saw the other day when I was desperately trying to just NOT BURN SOMETHING, half the information is missing/incomplete. Recipes are listed, but "common" ingredients plus where they restock has been removed, and that's sort of the more important bit, for me - considering a recipe just tells me I need "butter", I was hoping to go to that thread and see all the types of butter that would be accepted, then find the cheapest.

There may be another that I hadn't seen, or it may have been updated since Monday finally re-including that information. But for right now, the one I saw - which had previously included that info - really isn't much help.

If you think it's bad now, imagine how terrible it'll be when meaningful incentives are released? -_-

Yeaaaah. That's the only thread I know about and it's pretty incomplete. Kinda tempted to put together my own thread but I'm still not the highest level so.

YOu know you can see all the recipes even if you are not at the level needed to bake them. right?

I knew that, but I meant more that I don't know at which level you can make which particular recipes after level 7.

OH! Yeah, we started adding that on SBL but there are items that none of us can make so the item notes are incomplete :x

What are the advantages of baking? Is it worth the cost to do so?

Remember to keep an eye on the Mystery Box, you can get a lot of the ingredients from there n__n;

Currently it's just getting the items, there have been mention of potentially being able to bake items that are wearable, or achievements related to baking in the future too :)

Currently all you get are the items you bake. There will probably be achievements and things in the future, but personally I don't find the cost worth it. I just stockpile items I can use for baking and hope that by the time I need to raise my level I've gotten enough supplies together to make a few things :P

I baked today for the first time and it was super expensive...and then I burnt it. Do you have to be back to check the item you are baking right at the time it's ready? I might have missed it by only a minute or two.

Frustrated me that I spent that much to bake and burnt the item anyway, so I put all my baking goods up for sale. I will wait to do this.

No, you don't have to check it right on time. Each baked good has a burning chance percentage that goes down as you level up. For example, if you got to level 5 and tried to make a level 1 item, the chances of you burning it would be really really low.

And yet being level 19 I can still burn level one items...

- That is so handy to know. I couldn't work out why my recipe had burnt even though I was right on time getting back to it.
