First off: I admit I'm like 900% biased. I hate :p. I will break it when I remember and edit to break it when I don't. Breaking it involves placing an immediately closed formatting tag (like b for bold) in between : and p for any fellow haters c: Also, well aware this is the smallest of issues. But it's annoying and if it's an easy fix then why not?

:P doesn't look right and conveys a different meaning than :P or :p for most people. It was one of the bigger little gripes about the new slack/Apple emoticons/emojis when they were updated (see: here or here). The internet even knows :p is weird (see here vs here or here).

So can subeta just map :p to 😛 or even 😝 already? There is still ;p for all your 'I love uppers' needs, lol. I don't know if such a thing is possible with the new slack feature, but based off some of Keith's posts in the old threads, I'm hopeful. Subeta clearly has some control for things like the battle icons (:dmg:dark:)

I'm sure there are some of the other requested updates to emoji mapping that could still stand to be done, I just stuck with my (least) favorite. Also, a toggle for those of us who prefer text-look smilies would still be nice. Save a lot of [b*][*/b]ing!

Edit: To make it clearer on how to type them without them emoji-fying or having to include spaces, just fyi for peeps :P = :P

I would LOVE to see this changed. It's such a creepy emoticon to accidentally use when you just want to use the normal version.

Aw man, please? That was one of my favorite ones to use before we switched to emoji. And even Keith has said in the past the new one's creepy.

I think there are a couple of others that need looking at as well. IIRC, :) and :D are a bit off too.

Edit: Okay, : D (no space) is just fine. It's the : ) emote that's wrong. WHY is it an open mouthed grin with closed eyes? Can we get this one fixed to match the text emote better?

I hate the emojis, I use them often and never pay attention to what they look like, but I hate them when I see them. Make them all darkmatters or something :x

I feel like most emojis are poorly choosen for oldschool smileys, the tongue smiley is still the most fitting one imo.

But considering we have those :word: codes for them, they should really just disable them for : P, : ) and so on.

yeah, i agree that a lot of the emojis (including :P) are not ideal correlations.

i hate :) tbh, i always use 😊 (:blush:) instead which, iirc, actually used to be mapped to :) before some changes happened. :) just doesn't convey the same kind softening friendliness to a comment that 😊 does. for example,

the open-mouthed laughing emoji should be limited to :D

Yeah, that's why it bugs me so much. The :) emote that shows up for : ) is a bit too "strong" for its typical use.

Emotes don't even typically work for me so...

I would be so happy if this got changed. I use the tongue-emoji a lot and then it shows up as that and I'm suddenly creeping on someone when all I meant was "that was a joke".

the wink on the tongue sticking out face is beyond creepy and thats one of my favourite smileys to use definitely support that and fixing any others to better reflect their actual text counterpart

I'd be happy with the toggle to 'make my posts only have text based smilies' (keeping the :emoji_name_here: option as a backup/if necessary thing) as a compromise, if slack or w/e it's called really is the best option or changing is too much of a pain/waste of time.

Glad that you're gonna look into it, though! We can all agree and hate the scourge of :p together, lol.

Edit: Here's a chart of the different emoji standards. Perhaps just switching between them might at least do some good. Link. Google, Samsung, or even Windows are better in some regard, worse in others (especially the co-opted iOS emojis like 'catch these hands' for hug or nail polish for 'girl power'). There's always Chart or Brow (first two columns) but they're pretty plain :c

And both Android (I personally love the little 3/4ths blobbies, :c) and Microsoft/Windows are both updating their emojis (particularly relevant for :p in Windows) so they might break that solution sooner rather than later. Silly moving towards iOS :c

i'm looking into emojione (which i'm pretty sure is the column marked "one" on that list) right now actually :)

i personally like it because not only do they look nice, but the platform's not connected to an os at all. my brow(ser) column is the same as the ios ones on safari on my mac haha
