Welcome to the site! Another option for feeding your pets is putting them up at the Rathskeller Inn. They don't play with your pets there, so it doesn't affect their happiness, but that's not an issue if you give your pet a minion to keep it company. :)

As for your avatar, if you go to the "Personal" tab up top, then select "Wardrobe," it'll take you to the human avatar system.
