The Second Wizarding War took place from 24 June 1995 – 2 May 1988. The war ended with the Battle of Hogwarts, which led to the death of Lord Voldemort by our very own Gryffindor alumnus, Mr. Harry Potter with the assistance from fellow Gryffindor alumni, Mr. Ronald Weasley, Mrs. Hermione Granger, and Mr. Neville Longbottom. Along with these brave wizards and witch, many stood along side and fought in many different ways. Some defied the Ministry of Magic by working as spies. Others brought back the Order of the Phoenix. Many students and alumni as well as families came and defended Hogwarts against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. There were a great number of casualties and their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
For this assignment, I would like you to briefly talk about an event that took place during the war or someone who served along side with Mr. Potter during the war. To ensure I do not have several people talking about Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, or Mrs. Granger, I would like you to refrain from discussing their contributions to the war. You may choose someone you know personally or someone you admire for their bravery. If you opt to talk about an event, please talk about the importance of it.
Your assignment today is an essay. As the professor requested, please speak about either an event in the Second Wizarding War or a person who made a major contribution to the war. Please keep your answers between 1-4 paragraphs. Please post your answers here behind spoiler tags (if you do not know how to use spoiler tags, please let me know and I'd be happy to help you).
Your essay will be graded out of a maximum of 15 House Points.
(( must it be a canon character that we speak about?))
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
Hmmm... I am going to say no. It can be an original character if you'd like. :)

My essay is about a little known, unsung hero of the Second Wizarding War. His name was Simon Ramsey, he was a very sensitive 11 years old when the war began. He was also a Muggle. His story is this. Simon lived in Little Hangleton, a village known for being the place of origin of Voldemort's maternal and paternal ancestors. The residents of Little Hangleton lived in peace with each other and believed in the saying "Do unto others as they would have them do unto you." That is until the Second Wizarding War began.
The Dark Wizard Lord Voldemort and his followers, the Death Eaters, were waging a violent campaign across both the wizarding and Muggle communities, seeking to topple the Ministry of Magic and subjugate Muggle-borns, with the eventual goal of conquering the entire wizarding world, and the Muggle world along with it. Little Hangleton was not one of Voldemort's targets due to his ancestral ties (which gave him the belief that the village would go along with whatever he did). Therefore the village life went on as normal. Simon though felt differently. His sensitiveness would not allow him to sweep the killings under the table and pretend that they did not exist, and life was rosy and cheery, and ignore the casualties which went unnoticed by most.
He went into the steep hills outside the village, found a large cave and began to plan. At times he returned to his village and others nearby and got many of the inhabitants to believe his his idea. This plan or idea was not one of payback but one of help. He furnished the cave with items that he and his followers managed to secure from the destroyed houses in villages and towns that had been razed but were close by. Soon the cave contained bedding, foods, medical supplies, water and any other item that could be needed. He also had managed to enlist the help of nurses, doctors and surgeons. each and every night, he and his colleagues would venture out into the war zone and remove the wounded and transport them to the cave, where they were tended to night and day.
He continued this for the duration of the war, saving countless of both Wizards and Muggles. But ............ he never told anyone his name.

This is the story of Timothy Jones. Slytherin. Son of purebloods. They lived in Romansleigh in Devon, England. In summer of 1994 he was sorted into Slytherin. Timothy did not believe that muggles were mudbloods on contrary what his father wanted to teach him. His best friend was in fact a muggle from Hufflepuff. He knew the reputation of his house and the expectations of his father to become a Deatheater and kept his friendship a secret.
In the summer of 1997 when the Deatheaters were controlling Hogwarts Tim didn´t rebel. He had spent a few month searching for a way to help his friends. The mistrusted him of course he was a Slytherin what intention did he have except to deliver them to the Dark Lord. After months of searching he found a secret passage that led right outside of Hogwarts and into Diagon Alley. And so he forged his plan.
The first one he led to safety was his best friend who brought along a Ravenclaw girl and a Gryffindor boy. These were the first three that escaped the war. After some weeks he managed to smuggle another group of 4 people succesfully out of Hogwarts. It continued and he managed to smuggle about 140 students out of the school. However he was betrayed by a Slytherin boy on March 11, 1998. He was tortured and killed by Amycus Carrow. 2 days before his 15th birthday.

My father, Matthew Tudor, is an alumni of Hogwarts (Ravenclaw) and he returned to Hogwarts to help with the Battle of Hogwarts. He is four years older than Mr. Potter and was early in his career as a Healer. He wanted to help in any way possible because he believed Mr. Potter when he reported Voldemort's returned. When he heard of the pending attack on Hogwarts, he quickly returned to his former school because he knew there would be a desperate need for healers and wizards to defend the school.
Thankfully he survived the attack on the castle unscathed and quickly set to work to help those who were hurt. He was really bothered for a long time from all the death and destruction he saw. I'm happy to say he is doing better though and he said he would do it all over again if needed

Elric Belcrox; herbalist/healer
When the Battle of Hogwarts began, my father volunteered to help Madam Pomfrey with the wounded. He left his new wife at home, so he would know she was safe and set out to help the war effort in any way possible.
During a particular bad stretch of curse-induced wounds, he was sent out into the thick of the battle to perform cures and counter-jinxes to help the battlers perform to the best of their ability. During one of his runs on the grounds, he came across Oliver Wood who was trying to usher a younger student who had snuck back (the student would later be identified as Colin Creevey) into the castle for safety. A werewolf came up behind them and petrified Wood then made his way towards Creevey, wand poised to cast another curse; Elric made his way towards them and cast his own curse at the werewolf to repel him from the youngster. While the werewolf was blasted to a nearby chunk of rock and knocked unconscious, Elric turned to remove the petrifying curse from Wood and that was when he noticed the still life of Creevey on the ground. He never knew if the child was hit by the werewolf's missed curse or a stray curse, but it has been one of his biggest regrets to this day that he wasn't able to save the boy.
Wood insisted on taking care of Creevey himself and told Elric he needed to get back to helping the others and although Elric was in a great shock, he continued to perform his duties as battlegrounds healer and saved many more lives during that long stretch of night when the world as he knew it hang in the balance.

Narcissa Malfoy
In the Second Wizarding War there was an unknown hero that helped the biggest name of all, Harry Potter himself. She was a witch, a pure blood, and had a terrible guest inside her own house, no other than Lord Voldemort. She had no desire to have him coming by her home, but had no choice but to accept it. Her husband, who was terrified by the Dark Lord, was a faithful servant of him and so was her sister. But not her, she only pretended to be faithful to him, but her only loyalty was on her family and mostly her son Draco Malfoy who has also become another death eater by choice, but most of all by fear and envy.
It is not known by most, since she never accepted it herself, but Narcissa was a spy of the death eaters, yet in selfish ways. She would only give away information as long as it won't harm his family directly or imply them in any crime. But she would send messages to Dumbledore himself, and later to other Order of the Phoenix members in order to finally defeat the evil forces.
But it was during the battle itself that she delivered the final blow of her plot against the Dark Lord, even when once again it was driven by selfishness, she indeed helped Harry by lying to the Voldemort and assuring him that Harry was dead. One fact that was crucial to help win the war against him once and for all. Truth is, she only wanted to save her son and she knew the only way to do so was by defeating the Dark Lord. But in reality everyone have a reason to do something, her reason was love and in my book love is nothing but good. Narcissa Malfoy not only helped defeat the baddies, she protected her family at all costs, and in the end her methods were fruitful. All her family was pardon thanks to her acts and her courage.

Essay on Kingsley Shacklebolt
Kingsley Shacklebolt went into the second wizarding war as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic. He was in league with Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix, but his first major contribution to the war appeared to be against Dumbledore and Dumbledore's army as he stood alongside Dolores Umbridge after rumors of the Army had surfaced and called him to the school alongside the Minister. His next contribution did not come until the battle at the Department of Mysteries, during which time he, alongside other members of the Order of the Phoenix, helped rescue Harry and his friends from death eaters. He fought Bellatrix Lestrange immediately following the moment where she'd sent Sirius through the veil, but was injured and missed the remainder of the fight. Thankfully, he was able to recover from his injuries to fight again in ensuing battles.
After the battle at the Department of Mysteries, Kingsley spent some time at the right hand of the muggle Prime Minister, acting as his secretary and bodyguard under the direction of Rufus Scrimgeour. During this tour of duty, he took one night away from the job in order to speak with the Dursleys about measures they would have to take for their safety as Harry Potter was escorted from Privet Drive to the Burrow. He later went on to participate in the battle of the 7 Potters. Riding with Hermione, disguised as Harry using Polyjuice Potion, The two were chased by death eaters and by Lord Voldemort himself at one time, but managed to get away largely unscathed. After this battle, Kingsley returned to his duties with the muggle Prime Minister.
In the final stretch of the war, Kingsley sent a patronus - a lynx - to the Burrow, warning those therein that the Ministry had fallen. This patronus was instrumental in allowing Harry, Ron, and Hermione's safe escape from Fleur and Bill's wedding, allowing Harry to be safe for a time and present for the final stand at the end of the war. This is, in my opinion, possibly the most crucial event in the whole wizarding war because of that fact.
Finally, during the battle of Hogwarts, Kingsley arrived in time to dispatch troops to all of the crucial points surrounding the school to help protect the castle. He fought alongside Arthur Weasley and Remus Lupin, with each taking one side of the school. He dueled with a death eater and held back a horde of Dementors as they attempted to enter the school. Thanks to his undying loyalty to the Ministry and to Hogwarts, after the war, Kingsley was named acting Minister for Magic. Eventually the position became permanent and, in conjunction with Hermione, he revolutionized how the Ministry worked and helped to abolish pro-pureblood laws.

horace slughorn
Horace Slughorn was the former Potions Master and Head of Slytherin House during the Second Wizarding War. During the Battle of Hogwarts, he gathered reinforcements from Hogsmeade, killed Death Eaters, and dueled the Dark Lord himself. Residents and shopkeepers from the town, a number of Slytherin students, and friends and family of students and staff all bravely responded to Slughorn's call. Slughorn served as a living example against the "evil Slytherin" stereotype. Blood purity didn't matter to him and he fostered a positive learning environment for all of his students. He returned to retirement after the war and survived to an advanced age.

Lee Jordan and Potterwatch
I feel that Lee Jordan and his underground pirate radio program "Potterwatch" was very important during the War. It was a dangerous yet brave thing to do.
Potterwatch was for Harry Potter supporters and helped to supply the wizarding community with unaltered information. It promoted morale, through supportive messages to Harry Potter and everyone else resisting the Death Eaters. It encouraged people to help protect their muggle neighborhoods and unfortunately documented the deaths at the hands of Voldemort, the Death Eaters and Snatchers.

The Importance of The Fidelius Charm in the Second Wizarding War
There is two important instances of the use of the Fidelius Charm in the course of the Second Wizarding War: the first to protect the Potter's from the Dark Lord and the second to conceal the location of the Order of the Phoenix's meeting place. Fidelius comes from Latin for faithful and trustworthy. The Fidelius Charm is a complicated spell used to conceal information, a secret one would say, within a living soul. This soul owner is the Secret Keeper and is the only one who can divulge the secret either in person or by showing the information to others. If the primary Secret Keeper dies, those who know the secret become Secret Keepers, able to divulge the information to others.
The first instance of its use in accordance with the Second Wizarding War was in 1979 when Peter "Wormtail" Pettigrew became the Secret Keeper of the whereabouts of the Potters, James and Lily. However, he betrayed them and shared the knowledge of their location in Godric's Hollow, allowing the Dark Lord to find and murder them. This led to Harry Potter becoming the Chosen One. Without the betrayal of the Potters, Neville Longbottom would have fulfilled the prophecy and the outcome of the war could have been totally different, although hopefully not.
The second instance of the use of this charm was to conceal the Order's headquarters: 12 Grimmauld Place. This was useful to hide from Death Eaters until the death of Primary Secret Keeper Albus Dumbledore. Because of his death, Severus Snape became a primary secret keeper and Yaxley "piggybacked" while Hermione was apparating.
Overall the Fidelius Charm was central to the happenings of the Second Wizarding War.
Lapis Lazuli, Ravenclaw
One aspect of the Second Wizarding War which is rarely discussed is the involvement of international wizards. We know, for instance, that the former Headmaster of Durmstrang was once a Deatheater. During the second war, a small group of powerful witches and wizards, known as the Eagle's Coven was founded by recent graduates of Ilvermorney in North America. One of the most talented of the witches, Kate Miller, was at the center of the Eagle's Coven effort to thwart recruitment of dark wizards. Miller was contacted by Minerva McGonagal, a friend of her late grandmother, and proceeded in successfully creating what is now known as the Light Mark Charm, a spell which, when cast simultaneously by seven witches or wizards, effectively masks the Dark Mark summons. Light Markers were strategically assigned areas throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada, where they stayed on post, intercepting any information regarding summonses from the Dark Lord and subsequently blocking the incoming Dark Marks.
Eric Brewster, a muggle-born wizard who came from a family of engineers, invented an "Apparater Alarm," a device that was able to detect disruptions in the atmosphere emitted from incoming apparition. This device was hidden in Ilvermorny, closely guarded and used to try to intercept as many of Voldemort's servants as possible.
While overall the Eagle's Coven was highly successful in its mission, there were several casualties, ultimately including Kate Miller. She is survived by her son, Carter and her daughter, Chloe.

Aberforth Dumbledore
Aberforth Dumbledore's contribution to the Second Wizarding War has been mostly overlooked, but due to the tunnel linking Hogwarts to the Hog's Head Inn which he owned and ran, he was able to assist in the evacuation of the majority of the students. This saved countless lives, and while he might not have been known as the bravest wizard to fight in that war, if it wasn't for the tunnel linking his Inn to the school, there would've been many more deaths, and Mr Potter, Mr Weasley and Miss Granger might not have been able to re-enter Hogwarts unseen.
