The shop and gallery revamp is going to happen. It needs to be done to relieve the stress on our database (which will stop so many of the 504/502 errors!). Things to keep in mind with suggestions: limits right now are low for testing purposes. They will rise, to what extent I don't know yet (that's the point of testing). and I encourage you guys to keep coming up with ideas for us to do to help with all the extra items, though! We've had a lot of great suggestions on the site feedback thread.
Quoting a few ideas here that people posted on the other thread just so we have everything in one spot :)
I love a lot of these suggestions, this is the type of constructive feedback we need right now! These are super helpful, we definitely need to find more things to do with items, shop revamp or not. All that stuff shouldn't just be sitting around doing nothing, we should find ways to use it.
I just wanted to touch on the hoarding aspect. People seem to be going in on me whenever I mention it for one reason or another, but I just wanted to make it a bit more clear. We realize people are going to hoard. I do it more out of laziness (I have a shop that's called "sorting", basically where I dump stuff until I feel like I want to deal with it), sometimes out of a desire to profit in the future (I went through a period years and years ago before I was staff where I just bought 1k Wizard Tokens when they were under 1 mil and sold them when they were over 4 mil. That's how this happened: You have 133,136. I also had a shop I did for a while that was SBQ items I bought under 1 mil, and had them all priced at 1 mil, so anything I sold was just profit randomly.)
There really isn't a perfect solution to getting rid of the millions of junk items on site that doesn't encourage hoarding in itself. Any of the RB/crystal situations still encourage it, even if the intent is to get stuff off site. Any of our events with currencies encourage it. Having stuff isn't all bad, it just needs to be managed on site better--fixing up the database-heavy shops, not leaving loopholes for millions of Free Beers to exist overnight, things like that. We have to have things for you guys to do. I always liked the achievements for having lots of items, buying lots of items, I like the competition with myself and the things to do. The reality is we have people playing for the first time who may never catch up, but we need to have things for older users to stay busy with. There was a period where I had the most achievements on site and I was bored because I had almost nothing (short of battling, which isn't my jam) to do. We try to do more of the achievements now that involve actually doing things during plots or having certain collection items, but people give us guff about that encouraging hoarding, too. There isn't a perfect solution because it isn't something we can really solve.
We want this to be fun for you guys. That's the whole point! I still play, I like finding clever things to keep people busy, so threads like this are really helpful.
We're listening to you guys and want to make this as painless as possible AND have more fun stuff to do with your items in the process!

But what if the thing we want to do with our items is collect them? I'm not against using items, I do it (gourmand, read books, collections etc.) but the galleries I have, I have for a reason: I like those things and I want to have them somewhere I can look at them. One of my larger galleries, The Family Room, also my oldest collection, is in honor of my kids and husband. I will never use, sell or get rid of that one, I've spent so much time and sP and some CSC on it. The Kitchen is a close second (I always collect cold drinks and cheese whenever possible. It's just my thing.) I'm not moving anything anywhere until this is all over. I'll just let my account sit for 6 months and find something else to do in that time.
That's fine, if that's how you want to play you can do that. I have huge pet treasures because that's how I like displaying my items in a non-permanent way. The reason I got into pets at all was to have large, developed treasures. I'm not as into collections as I am these.
