I'm sure you have access to the statistics, so maybe I'm just not a typical user. But I access my vault, adding and removing things, many, many times every day. And because of the size of my vault (which apparently will get even larger when I have to move all of my galleries' items to it), it takes longer to search/remove items from it that it does to search/buy items from user shops.
Okay. Posted this in news comments, but will put it here unbroken and (hopefully) with typos fixed so that it might make some sense. I haven't read through anything here in the forum yet, but am off to do that now.
Can we at least get a "move to vault" option when we delete shops? That would eliminate the initial headache for this "intervention".
Having said that, this feels like the beginning of the end. For a long time, you've been looking for ways to add sP sinks because we're not meant to have loads of sP. It's been said of items that having them sit stagnant on an account is bad for the servers. Okay, so we're trying this, but items will still sit stagnant on accounts because, really, how many "reformed" hoarders are ever going to look at their messes again once they hit the impossible-to-deal-with vault system? Then, I've seen Keith state the wardrobes are hard to deal with on the back end because users weren't meant to have wardrobes this large. What's next? TCs? The vault, itself?
We're not meant to have sP, we're not meant to have items. What are we MEANT to do?!
I don't know why anyone would quit over this, to be honest. I agree that the cap is totally unrealistic - and makes staff seem worryingly out of touch - but they have said they'll increase it. And as has been stated, all similar sites run limits on these numbers. I think 5k - 10k would be more sensible. It might be painful at first, but with time it will be less painful. I'd take it over the lag/downtime any day.
I said everything I needed to say already in the news post, but I will keep it short and sweet and say that I'm not very happy with this and neither are a lot of other folks.
I would not mind the change so much if we had gotten more of a "recent" advance warning (i.e. last month), especially on the heels of so many item-heavy events. Additionally, some of the solutions others have suggested in the news comments like the minion farm for storing minions or the mass move option would help ease the transition and I feel it would also ease the tension coming from us upset users. I also like the idea of converting preexisting shops/galleries, but this is mostly from a sentimental standpoint as all my shops are almost a decade old.
I'm all for finding a solution to the lag issue. If bigger and better servers are what's necessary here, I would be happy to support the site more in that endeavor and I'm sure other users would too. There have been a lot of positive incentives for obtaining and spending CSC such as the stamp cards and all of the beautiful Cash Shop items that have come out recently. I would even pay CSC to be able to have a permanently large gallery and/or shop or several smaller ones as add-ons. But, if anything, this update will turn me off of spending any more CSC to support these less-than-user-friendly decisions, and I've spent quite a lot of real cash on CSC over the years, much more than I would like to publicly confess.
I also think there needs to be a distinction with galleries to lessen the impact on people's collections. I can understand being upset about that. Whether it's a more robust back end, which reduces the number of unnecessary queries, or a larger limit.
Also, vaults need to be... functional going forward. I never use mine because shops and galleries are honestly 10x easier to work with, thanks to the filters and layout. All my hoards are divided into galleries.
I don't know my sweet, I don't know.

Still getting 502s uhhhh so the site went down yesterday for what?
Watch, we will still get 502s after the "change" is implemented After a decade of playing I think I'm over this. My gallery was really my only reason to play subeta and now I'm just meh whatever. Stupid idea, but am I surprised?
Fuck this.
Years ago it was said that limits would be put in place and I agreed whole heartily even if at the time I had nearly 34k unique items. So I gave up on the Hoarder achievement and started selling all my stuff. I sold nearly 25k unique items. That meant I spent two years going through every single item one by one and moving it over to my shop to sell. I have just under 10k items out now and that's 4k over the limit. And that isn't even counting my shop that has 1.3k items in it, and my food to be fed gallery that has 500 items.
So fuck this. I spent two years selling shit to get ready and I'm still getting screwed over.
I get why we need limits but these are too low by far. Hell the non GA shop limit of 250 items is like what, two days of questing worth of stuff? Like seriously? And unless auto-pricing is going to be changed to once per shop per day then I can't even sell the crap I get from questing then.
I'm just so insanely frustrated and upset right now. What the hell is the point in the site having so many items if I can't keep them? I understand limits I really do. But there has got to be a middle ground between free for all and practically no space.
Plus I have no faith that when the new shops come live my old ones will still be intact. I fully expect the site to eat my items or just flat out delete my shops/galleries.

I agree with it being pointless to say that people don't load their vaults very often so it'll be less of a strain. If vaults are the only place people can keep items then they'll be loading them as often as they're currently loading shops.
You&;ve allowed us to have thousands to tens of thousands of items for years and ten shops, and now all of sudden I&;m allowed to 500 items and 3 shops. Vaults are going to feel the "strain on the servers", trust me.
They won't - Vaults aren't accessed frequently. Vaults aren't used when we release a new feature, or when quests are changed, or whatever the case is that people rush to buy things from user shops and everything starts crumbling. Vaults don't currently have a processing time of 3-4 seconds on updates that hang the entire server process, etc.
Huh? But surely if you limit where people can put their items in such a massive way, they'll resort to storing items in their vault. Meaning that vaults will be accessed frequently. Even if you start off with a shop with 0 items in it, on a blue account you can get 100 unique items from questing, and after 2 days you'll have more than the 250 allotment in your shop. Blues don't have autopricing and I doubt everyone will be rushing to hand price daily. So then you have to turn to your vault as a storage space for your rewards. A week of questing can net 700 items easily, so that's already almost 500 items in your vault. A month of questing will be ~2500 items all in the vault. I am very likely to store things in my vault and forget about it, rather than doing account searches and removing the necessary items to hand back in for quests (on the other hand items in shops have the move to inventory button that makes handing in your own items for quests a lot easier). The hoard of the vault would build. This only moves the problem onto the vault in my opinion. I agree with on that.
Having a gold account to raise the limit only makes things worse. The gold account runs out and you can't add anymore items because you'd then be ~250 items over the limit again. I've had the same problem on other games. You would have to wait for those items to sell before you can put your new items in there. And that's an amount of time where you would have to put things in your vault.
I get the need for limitations but these numbers are ridiculous. It's proof that the staff don't play this site like a normal user and have no idea about how many items are accumulated on a daily basis, and how many items actually sell daily (assuming you even HAVE a gold account..) I know they say the limits will be raised but why are the starting numbers so ridiculously small? And how long will people have to endure these ridiculous limitations before they're increased? I agree with that staff just seem out of touch. (And I actually feel like I've said this the last time this shop/gallery limitation came up? I'm having deja vu about this.)
As a side note, people rush to buy things when new features/achievements/revamps are released because people know how the economy is. If they don't buy it right then, the items will inflate to the moon and not come back down for probably a year or more. People have to buy the items, that, or, they already have them. Which is hoarding. So the options are to either hoard one of everything in hopes that when things like that happen, you'll already have the items necessary, or, to rush to the shops and buy the items for instant gratification before inflation happens. People like instant gratification. That is why people buy required items ASAP, and that is why inflation happens, and that is why some people hoard in the first place. Preparedness. So it seems that the two options are either hoard and cause lag, or buy things and cause lag. :P
- hey, beautiful! Its been ages! TwT -hugs-
For real. I'm on a tablet. It's lagging, there are 502s left and right, i have 100 pages of stuff to price and w/d to frag, and my clumsy fingers keep hitting remove item instead of the number of items i want to w/d.
I've been doibg this basically since the news announcement and i'm about 5 percent done (1000 items worked through) and that's counting the monster load of doubles. I am not going to quit over this but i definitely feel like i am suffering for being a pack rat u_u
Already said this on the news, so I'm just going to C&P it here:
You know what I would LOVE to do to reduce server strain and make the site progress better? FUNDRAISE A ******* ********** SITE RECODE. That would fix ALL the site bottlenecks. That could fix SO MUCH. I get that shops need recoding, but so does SO MANY OTHER DAMN THINGS. Vaults are going to be accessed exponentially more, and will start to load slower from the over use. I already use mine FAR more than I use shops, and I am sure it will only get worse as people move their galleries and unsold items over there. Unless the shop limits go up SIGNIFICANTLY, this is going to be super bad for the economy. I mean, it doesn't take a math genius to go: smaller shops = less items for sale = buyers nightmare Also, now that people are scrambling to figure out what to do, I keep getting 502s and 504s. RIP Subeta.
and everyone else:
You don't have to have everything moved in 10 days. You will still have access to your old shops and be able to move things out of them. They just won't show up in the shop search or be visible to other people. They'll be like mini vaults until you work through them. We'll find a way to make getting items out of them a bit easier (dump the whole shop would be very hard on the servers), that was the first thing that I was worried about, having just emptied a shop that was around 2,000 items.
The programmers can explain it better, but this is more a matter of fixing old coding than upgrading to new servers. It will still be the same poor setup no matter how great the hardware is.
- thank you, Will we still be able to use the view function?
You will still be able to work with your own shop/gallery, but no one else will be able to see it.
- sorry to keep pinging you but I feel like I'm not making myself clear, my bad. In our shops there is a view option that when you click you can see your shop as other users do. Do you know if that will still work?
Ugh. My gallery was my baby. I cared about it more than my pets, wardrobe and whatever else other people work on. Others have pets and their stories.. I just liked my hoard.
I get it, hoarding was bad. But Subeta encourages it. I don't mind having it moved to my vault, but I won't spend the time to do it myself. I'll be really upset if staff put the onus of moving hoards into the users hands because it's just unreasonable to expect people to move 10k+ items by individually checking each item.
This might be the final straw. I liked seeing my gallery.. dunno what is left for me to do on Subeta. Apart from giving my feedback on new features, I don't do much on here anymore.
Also, what about IHHers? By having galleries those people could locate rare items in galleries and contact the owners. I was going to say people with collections will also be looking for rare items too. What about them?
I don't have the time nor the motivation to move everything out of my gallery. What then?
Okay...I'm trying very hard to be respectful about it but as a player who likes to buy wardrobe items on a fairly regular basis, I am panicking.
There are so many old items (for instance, old Vanity/Delish items) on site that I shop for. I'm trying to collect Delish items. This making everyone switch over and reprice their items? It's going to totally mess up how these items are priced. A lot of these items are even sold by users that don't come on as much and probably won't change over in these 10 days or whatever. Everything is going to shoot up in price so much. A lot of items aren't going to be available anymore. This limit means you can only sell 250/500 items at once, and a lot of users that sell items like these are going to have to pick and choose which items they place in their shops. Not everyone has x item to sell.
On top of that, of those 250 items, you're going to want to list the ones that you're going to profit the most off of. So questing is going to be hard because no one is going to want to sell their "cheap" prizes; they're just going to frag them. It's going to instantly shoot the prices of these items way up.
None of this sits well with me. I love Subeta because I can come on, earn a few mil a day, and get another wardrobe item for my collection. It's going to become so hard for me to do that. It brings a whole lot less value to a site that I feel like I loved but am slowly growing out of love with.
I'd rather sit through the 502's any day than have this happen.
Don't like this at all.
Not affected by the limit on SHOPS - since the one shop I have rarely have items, and when it does it isn't a lot....but I'm more worried about the limits on galleries. I enjoy adding items to my two galleries and it sucks that I will soon no longer be able to do that - instead, I have to shove it in my vaults. The start off limit is way too low. This should've been announced when an easier way to mass move items have been found, not now when there is no easy way.
I saw someone quote this and I will put it here:
So is it no longer the case? Galleries will have limits after all? Galleries should be entirely separate from shops, I think!!
So I don't have a gallery at all anymore so I don't care about that.
However, I have a MASSIVE wardrobe that I recently decided was too large and I am slowly working through getting rid of the items I no longer want. Currently have 2559 unique items in my shop and much more to come.
And how will the autopricer work now? With being forced to have multiple shops, will it be one autopricer per shop per day (is it like that now? I have no idea)
At the end of the day, we just have too many items on the site. There needs to be a feature that will convert items into the sP they sell for in shops so we can just get the cheap stuff off the site and not make new items out of them
