PINGS
Hey folks! The next chapter questions are here for your answering pleasure! This chapter's questions are brought to you by the amazing ! I'm curious to see your responses!
Chapter 9 - Grim Defeat (Raven)
Do you think when Hermione mentioned Filch knowing all the passage ways that maybe he didn't as a possible of foreshadowing?
Snape that perhaps Black was getting help. He mentions the appointment of... and then cuts off-- Did you suspect Lupin or Hagrid since both of those characters were the only new teachers?
Did anyone find it odd that Snape skipped so many dark creatures and picked werewolves or just thought he was being his usual disagreeable self?
Did you wish you could have seen Dumbledore get angry and shoo off the dementors from the quidditch pitch?
Did you wish you could have seen Dumbledore get angry and shoo off the dementors from the quidditch pitch?
So much yes.

🦋
same here lol was like drat, why couldn't it have been someone else knocked out.
Pings!
Chapter 10 - The Marauders Map! Just a couple of quick questions in this chapter, though its a great one, because YAY the Marauder's Map has finally appeared!
-Did you think Harry was going to get caught when he snuck into Hogsmeade? He's pretty lucky a teacher didn't see him!
-What would you have bought from Honeydukes? Sounds like they have a little bit of EVERYTHING!
-How shocked were you by the story of Sirius and his alleged betrayal of James and Lily?

🦋
I'd never even considered that Harry could get caught once he was IN Hogsmeade. Wow, major oversight there lol. I'm sure if I had, though, I'd definitely have been scared for him!
I would probably have bought some of Drooble's Best Blowing Gum, some Fizzing Whizbees, Honeyduke's Saltwater Taffy, Jelly Slugs (yummmmmm), and some Toothflossing Stringmints to clean up with after lol.

Hello folks! I hope this ping finds you well. I come bearing the next set of questions! Feel free to answer at your leisure. Keep an eye out for a contest I'll be hosting here soon! Details are yet to be finalized, but I'm hoping to post it in the next couple of days. In the meantime, have a think about these questions.
Chaper 11 - The Firebolt
Why would Trelawney predict professor Lupin's "imminent departure?" Is this prediction accurate? If so, is there a more logical explanation than Divination? Why does Professor McGonagall choose to have the broom examined by Madam Hooch and Professor Flitwick? Would it not be more sensible to have the Firebolt factory technicians examine it?
pings
for the Lupin's departure question most likely because DADA teachers only last for 1 year before something happens to them to prevent them from continuing the position.
Sp vouchers [tot=aries][tot=pyritefraxure]
Very good point! Do you think that Trelawney's prediction was solely based on this precedent, or do you think she had other reasons for predicting what she did, too? Ie. that Lupin is a werewolf and he probably won't last long because of complications with that, etc.
I do believe her prediction was solely based on that precedent since at this point in time she has only made 1 true prophecy. She also spent the majority of her time up in the tower.
Sp vouchers [tot=aries][tot=pyritefraxure]
While technicians might know about the broom itself, I'm not sure all curses and jinxes would leave visible traces. You'd need people well-versed in magic and dark arts to check the broom.
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
lol its a safe predictuion, every defence against the dark arts teacher leaves after one year.
I was thinking along the same lines, but as good as Madam Hooch is, I still think a better solution might have been to have someone from the factory come down and work alongside professor Flitwick because they'd still be better versed in the broom than she would be. Although I suppose McGonagall knew she could trust the two other professors, whereas it might be difficult to trust anyone from the factory at first glance.
Very true lol, but precedent isn't necessarily prediction. Do you think she might've had a premonition about Lupin wolfing out on someone or something along those lines that may have contributed to her prediction?
nope, I think she just used common sense and said it was a prediction. Largely I pretty much consider her a fraud, minus the few "real" predictions she's made.

Hey guys! Sorry for the terrible delay - life was insane for a while there, and I very recently found out I need to have more eye surgery so I've been a little bit off my game. I come bearing 4 chapters worth of questions, though, so I hope you guys have fun thinking about them and answering them! That contest I'd mentioned is still in the works, too, I promise!
Without further ado...
Chapter 12 - The Patronus (Garnet)
Why does Oliver Wood think McGonagall's comment about his being "insensitive" regarding Harry is unwarranted? Whose side are you on, personally, and why?
Chapter 13 - Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw (Garnet)
Is Hermione acting insensitively towards Ron after Scabbers disappears? Does she take any responsibility for what Crookshanks may have done? Why or why not? Is Ron overreacting? Why or why not? Why was Harry so strongly affected by the Boggart, knowing that it was not a real Dementor, but, during the Quidditch game, he feels no effect at all when he thinks the fake Dementors are real?
Chapter 14 - Snape's Grudge (Garnet)
If Hermione reported the broom to McGonagall, believing there was a real danger to Harry, why does she say nothing about the tunnel? If you were Snape and all of the events mentioned were in your past, how would you feel toward James and, by extension, Harry, and why?
Chapter 15 - The Quidditch Final (Garnet)
What does Slytherin's playing style in the Quidditch match reflect about their character in general? How might you expect other house teams' defining characteristics to be reflected in their manner of play on the pitch? If you played Quidditch, would you play in a manner consistent with your house, or would your personal strategy differ?
haha because Wood only seems to care about Qudditch and not really worried about his teammates saftey. c 14: I think Hermione is trying to keep her friendship there as well as not being a complete snitch also it would put Harry and the Weasley boys in trouble, something I don't think she really wants to do.
I often find Hermione torn between doing what's right, and doing what's best in a situation. I don't think she means to get people in trouble, I just think she has a very keen sense of when rule breaking is for the greater good. I think she's a lot more intuitive than she'd like to think.
oh I agree. She wants to do what's right and has to weigh which thing is better and how. In fact even in the first book she was so keen to keep to the rules that you could see how it bugged her by having to break them to save the stone from a even greater bad thing.

Hey folks!
Welcome to this term's Book Club Contest!
It's a simple one! I know we all adore Harry Potter, but what else does everyone like to read? I'm always looking for new books to get in to, so I'd love your input! The challenge is this: I would like for you to each choose a book you absolutely love or think everyone needs to read. I then want you to write me a short "book report" of sorts - in your own words, please write 3 paragraphs about the following (no spoilers!):
On top of that, if you're feeling up to the challenge, I'd love to see cosplay HAs of any character from the book you've chosen.
This contest will close on Sunday, May 15th, 2016 at 11:59pm. Winners will be chosen based on how compelling their "book reports" are!
If you have any questions, feel free to ping me at any time. Chapter questions for the next few chapters will be posted in the next day or two.
Now then, go on and have fun! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

Well, its just an opportunity to win some awesome prizes, you definitely don't have to do it. I think its a great idea :D I'll have to think of a book to do!!

Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black There are five books but to be honest they are kinda more like one long book. It took me like 2 hours to read most of them if that. However, despite the fact that they are short, they are a series that I find very well written and sadly very overlooked.
Basic synopsis of the books: After a divorce, a Mother and her three children move from the city to a large but rundown house. Jared, a 9 year old boy, is angry about the divorce and struggling with how to deal with it. He finds a book about the fairy realm and is enthralled. Unfortunately the faeries want it as well. The three siblings find themselves in some strange places and events dealing with the book and their new surroundings as well as unwrapping a mystery of what happened to Great Uncle Arthur Spiderwick.
Jared Grace, age 9. Yes the fantastical sprite glen is a tribute item from this book and yes, part of Magnus' look was taken from my cosplay of Jared Grace. These are pics from the book

One of the things I like about the book is the way it flows, it is a fast pace book that is written very well. The descriptions make everything come alive off the page. Some writers don't do well with putting young children in books, but these two authors did an amazing job. It also has gothic style drawings throughout the books that help lend to the over all feel of the books. Even though its geared towards children it is one of my favourite series... not that I have the books all signed by Holy Black or anything lol.
Everyone should read it because it has faeries in it, easy to read but has lots of action in it. Jared, the main protagonist, struggles to come to terms with his anger but along the way discovers himself and what he cares about.
I also recommend reading Tithe by Holy Black. Excellent faerie realm work, darker series but a thrilling read.
