We only need one back plate.. it goes off how new your car is.. because mine is a 2015 its more expensive.. however my husband was $175 for an 09' so its apples to oranges

Odin is great, currently chewing on his bones while I sneak on the computer for a dog park run

So Ive made the personal decision to give up pork. After I was watching this food documentary )I really shouldnt watch those) I just cant continue to eat pork. Has anyone else in our group given up a meat or maybe vegetarian. Ive know for years how smart pigs are, and how they actually out perform 3 year olds on testing.. my husband is excited because more bacon for him lol.

Ah ok! I also believe it has to do with state tax rates but I could be wrong :( My husband's car is an 09' and for the back plate only (all we need here) it was on $56 this past year. It's terrible how they price gauge everything :(

I have given up pork a while ago. My husband loves it but honestly, I'm fine without it. I've been vegetarian for almost a year now this time (have been before longer but that's another story). Those food documentaries always get me :( I chose it to lose weight and get healthier. I realize it is a personal decision for everyone :) I believe is also vegetarian if I remember past conversations.. sorry if I am wrong :(

I am perfectly happy eating meat. I just try to buy it from places that only buy from responsibly sourced farms :)

Yes, I've been a vegetarian for the last 25 years! It can take some time to adjust, but there are so many delicious, satisfying vegetarian meals that it really isn't something I miss at all. For me, it was a combo of health and animal care reasons. I hate the way that the commercial meat/animal product industry does things and it just makes me sad to contribute to that as a whole. I do eat eggs these days (after many years of not) but I get them from places where the chickens are treated well and are happy and healthy. :)

I dont think I could ever go veggie fully. I love chicken and fish but who knows in the future. I have already cut my red meat way back over the years and with the elimination of pork I feel better about not contributing to factory farming. The good thing about Phoenix is there are a lot of locally sourced options for meat at Trader Joes. So the meat my husband wants and the fish/chicken I want are local and more responsibly raised. I just need to find more veggie and fruit options I enjoy. This week Im eating black bean burgers for lunch at work.

In my opinion, slow transitions are usually easier. We ate fish for a while, and it was all stuff we caught ourselves. (Alaska had its benefits there.) I stopped eating Chicken fairly quickly (though I loved it and it still smells yummy), but cheese was hard for me to give up. I did for a long time, and found many delicious things to eat instead. But I do now eat dairy sparingly, (Cheese for pizza, which I make from scratch every other week or so, and enjoy a good, healthy yogurt for a treat a few times a year. I don't do milk, because I don't care much for the taste, and find that nut milks make me less bloaty and feel much better anyway.

I love veggies and fruit, though, and really enjoy how many colors and flavors there are. Right now? I'm dying for garden fresh cherry tomatoes and for fresh picked and lightly steamed green beans. mmmm! C'mon summer!

Hi! Sorry for disappearing so long, I kinda reclused for a while but I missed you guys. I eat meat pretty often, but I do my best to get it humanely raised when possible, and I only get cage free or free range eggs unless it just somehow isn't an option. I also stay away from things like veal and crab because of the cruelty inherent in creating the dish, and actively discourage anyone from eating KFC because of their animal abuse.

That's a difficult thing to do but I wish you all the best. My granny came from a sheep farm so I doubt I could give up meat. I have too many relatives that depend on it. But I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure you can do it! I have friends who are vegetarians and even vegans so I do cook for vegetarians occasionally. While I try to find substitutes, (coconut oil is a good one for cooking oil and gives a nice taste) recently I've been turning to fresh veg done in different ways. I had a wonderful salad the other day made from kale, cranberries, almonds and pine nuts all tided together with a stem ginger dressing. It was delicious!

That does sound nice. My favorite things from the garden are new potatoes and runner beans. Runner beans never make it to the kitchen though. I know what you mean about missing summer. But seasonal food is so good. Do you have any favorite Spring dishes?

Nice Moana HA.

Welcome back! How are you? I'm the same when it comes to meat. I try to buy organic, free range food. I won't eat fast food. TV dinners, chain food, I avoid it. I prefer to make my food fresh and see the label. Though that is a bit weird. I occasionally bought roast chickens from a deli until I read the label. How a whole chicken was only 90% chicken I have no idea. I can only assumed it was referring to the spices they used for it.

That 10% usually refers to the bones and skin I believe.

I think my favorite spring thing is strawberries. Yum! Otherwise, mostly things are summer or fall harvest here. Lettuces you can plant in the fall and enjoy until it gets hot in the summer, which is nice. You do cover during the cold times and they prefer a raised bed for warmth. I'm not set up to do that, but one day if we ever have our own place, I'm excited to do that. :)

Thanks! I'm doing alright, still a lot of stress but no outright disasters so positive. How about you? Yeah with meat there are always going to be people who can't do without it (I personally can't digest most protein alternatives well), so I feel like on a large scale it's more beneficial to channel funds to humane sources until it becomes the norm out of financial necessity for competing companies. After all, money tends to make changes faster than human decency.

Thanks for clearing that up because it was about to give me hours of baffled contemplation.

I never understand choices like that. I always count it as part of the chicken regardless. But I did find out when I asked that even the plan chickens are given a rub of brown sugar and as a result they need to adjust the percentages. I'd rather have just the chicken.

I love strawberries too. I really love using them in milkshakes. Have you ever tried adding soya cream to a strawberry milkshake? It makes such a nice flavor. Garden fresh vegetables is a really good goal to have. We have a vegetable patch but we haven't planted anything yet. I might try to grow something this year since I don't have to drive so far any more. One thing I've always wondered. During Halloween I make Lanterns from Pumpkins but which part do you use to make pie and the like?

Going full vegi takes a lot of dedication. (Like you I lack that.) But it's great to try new things and see what they taste like. I find I really enjoy fresh made vegetarian foods. How goes it for you?

I'm fine. I'm enjoying work which is great and the weather has finally cleared up after the storm. I hope the stress eases up soon and you get a chance to relax. I agree. Most of the reasons why these creatures are as successful as they are is because humans have protected them and encouraged them. So I support the farms that look after their animals and treat them well.

I hope you can grow things! Every summer I plant tomatoes, peppers, herbs and some other summer veggies. Nothing like fresh things, even if I can't do y ear round yet!

Pumpkin pie you use the flesh of the squash. Usually you want a sugar pumpkin or something sweeter than what you make lanterns with but I've used them so they don't waste after using them for decorations. You take the pulp and seeds out, bake it until it is soft, scrape it off the skin and puree it in a blender. It'll need salt, and a lot of pie spices, but can make THE Best pies for over the stuff in tins!

Oh I didn't know there was a storm, was it a big one? I actually really like hearing about weather in other places, you live in England right?
