The only thing about tipping that bugs me is the idea of tipping no matter what. It should be an incentive to provide good service, but some people provide really shitty service and then still expect a 20% tip. Of course this is only a problem because of how the industries pay their workers, you feel obligated to tip even if service is bad because you know they don't make much otherwise.

You are speaking the truth today! I hate knowing that for the waitstaff to make minimum wage, I need to tip 20%, especially since it doesn't just go to them. It goes to the chef and the bus boys and everyone else working in the back.

Yeah, it does seem really antiquated, although it makes sense why they felt it was the best option at the time. It's not likely to change though, because they'd have to change the Constitution, which would need agreement from Congress. And we're back to where we started.

It mainly just bothers me that people complain about things without even bothering to learn about what they're complaining about. Or maybe they would know that what they're asking for can't happen with the way the current system works.

Also yes, I just wish they would pay all employees the same, that way even if you're a bad server you still have your job, you just don't get extra for being good at it.

Nah, grocery shopping and other kinds of shopping like that you don't tip. At least I've never heard of people doing it.

Yeah, can't be mad at a child who tried to help by sorting out their own hair! Plus kids generally are more active and their hair is messed up a lot anyway - less noticable.

I guess a mid year romantic day balances out - February is close to the whole expense of Xmas!

Here in the UK there are minimum wage amounts by law - not great, but enough to survive on. So it's not like other places where staff are paid a lot less and NEED the tips just to live.

Well we have minimum wage laws too, but I think there are exceptions for waiters or servers to get paid less as long as their tips make up at least the rest to account for minimum wage. I believe it's supposed to be that if they don't make enough from tips, the employer is supposed to cover them up to minimum wage, but I've heard it doesn't always happen like that for some reason.

We get an influx of people in the winter, mostly old people who travel here when it's cold where they live. Snow birds.

As is the case with most things in life :p

I've never been a big partier, either. One year I went all out and invited like ten people out to bowling, which for me was the HUGEST PARTY THAT EVER PARTIED. Most are like my last, where I went and bought a whole cheesecake and ate it over the course of the weekend. Best weekend ever. xD

Me too. I really really hope something starts this weekend, I want Survival now.

I would LOVE Subeta-centric parodies of LoTR or Harry Potter or heck, Toy Story. Anything that gets us more plots. c:

I forgot about the wiki! That's a great resource. I hope they use it when they're updating their NPC lists and plots.

Now I'm imagining a superspy duo who pretends to be mild-mannered shopkeepers during the day and gets involved in intrepid hijinks at night. Would enjoy, two thumbs up!

We're almost state-neighbors ~

Except I live all the way in east Texas, so it's more like 2 states apart probably.

Bowling is nice! Cheesecake weekend sounds fun too though. xD

I proposed a few where Cinthia was gollum and we had to throw her in a volcano or somethingg along those lines... It would be pretty awesome

My sister lived in texas until last year when she moved to pittsburgh

Bowling was a little less nice when I had to pay for most of it because I forgot that extra games cost money, but fun was had! LOL Cheesecake was nice, although I probably shouldn't do that again. I bet the solution is to invite someone to help finish it or just buy myself presents. Except I kind of do that all year already.

Now to plan for next birthday. I bet I'll do nothing but sit around in my jammies and watch Dr. Who.

Ahahaha I almost did write a postscript where Cinthia was gollum because everyone calls her that already. I would not be opposed to some volcano-tossing in the least. If we did that, do you think we could get Amy back? Do the gods do returns?

oh. so only eatery and some service industry got tip. that's not so bad. i thought you need put aside 20% of your income just for tips. haha.

some low end food place doesn't follow minimum wage in my place. but they make up by providing free housing and food for their workers. so it is not so bad.

Yeah, you can order them from other places. They just can't be sold within the US, I think.

I've never actually had one though.

I already have something to look forward to for my birthday this year (or at least shortly after it). The script book for the Harry Potter play was announced yesterday, to be released on July 31st, three days after my birthday. <3

Oh no, it's not that bad. And 20% seems like a lot, but when it's only a few dollars it adds up to being like a dollar extra or something. Not much.
