Well, I'm glad I got out of it in time. I actually wanted to buy premium once I got my main account back, but that never happened.

Nothing of this surprises me though. The shady staff (or rather the shady people in charge) was honestly one of the main reasons why I didn't wanted to stay on there, and it lead me to Subeta. So thanks for that. ;)

honestly, i'm not entirely up-to-date with what neopets is like these days – i think the last i paid attention to anything going on there was during the fiasco back in june, when the site filters went down and the neoboards descended into chaos (also resulting in inappropriate pet names)

neopets has been on a steady decline for years now, so i don't think this is surprising to anyone. i have a lot of good memories of playing around on the site back in 2005/6-ish? i never came close to scraping together enough np to buy a paintbrush, but i remember being SO inspired by the pets that people did paint and create stories for, especially when those stories were interwoven with other pets' and you could click through a whole network that people had poured their time and creative energy into developing. thinking back on those pets is STILL motivation for me to work on my own here on subeta to this day. i also remember how intriguing and elaborate i found the site plots to be... looking up the walkthrough for altador blew my ten-year old mind lmao

the point i'm meandering towards is that the magic of the site definitely died out (for me) a long time ago. i absolutely loved the old painted pets and felt so disheartened by the new poses with the introduction of neocash that i just wasn't motivated log in and put effort towards saving up for a paintbrush (that, and the site had become too.. commercial? for my taste). and neopets had plenty of problems even before then. i think a lot of its issues today stem from both neopet's failing creative team and the ever increasing divide between the community and the owners, especially with jumpstart's takeover and much of the previous neopets team being let go. for a community that i remember for being so creative, i'd imagine that the lack of originality and reports of art theft have been disappointing to say the least – jumpstart's denial on this account is a huge spit in the face and pretty indicative of how little interest they maintain in actually communicating with + standing by the community. go on the neopets fb page and under pretty much every news post is a complaint written by someone who paid for neocash, never received it, and has been waiting months without a single word in response to their help ticket. i wouldn't be surprised if the way neopets has been alienating their users is what ultimately does them in.

it's sad to see a site like neopets reduced to a fraction of what it was back when i last actively played, but it makes me appreciate having a place like subeta to return to after a multiple-year hiatus. subeta's far from perfect, but the team here is incredibly invested in improving the site and the user experience in comparison.

I can't say I'm surprised. Heck, I had content stolen over a decade ago. A staff member stole my mom's account. Shady business has been going on almost since its inception. I bailed on it a loonnnnng time ago, and never regretted it.

Whoa... From all of this, I'm really happy to have moved away from Neopets. My whole reason for being here today on Subeta is because of how badly Neo has gotten.

Sad to see this site sucking so bad now. I played for 12 years LOVED it. Garbage now :(

Pfft, good. Neopets deserves to crash and burn. Don't get me wrong, I loved the site growing up, but after their ridiculous banning and restrictive systems... I hate it now haha.

Neopets is an incredible franchise run by terrible, incompetent people. That's been a constant ever since the original creators sold it. What a shame that it may actually kill it for good.

I left because I kept buying off the black market and it was draining my bank account. xD I had to curb that nonsense cause I was spending hundreds of dollars a month (!!!).

Once I bought a royal PB, moved that from the (stolen) shell account to a side, then from the side to my main, and they froze the side account the next day. I got it back in about a week after saying "I transferred that item on purpose. My account has not been hacked." They were like "oh okay lol sorry." No concern about where the item came from or the stolen account it had been placed on. xD So goofy.

Well, I posted about it in the Neopets' forums, but my thread was deleted. They're reusing old images and the totally new ones are terribly pixelated, shaded and even coloured...
