Art prizes are a great idea. I like how you termed them "honour" prizes. That would be worth working toward.

I once read an article about procrastination by Dan Ariely. He did a study that validated that shorter deadlines are generally the most beneficial, as people tend to put off (and often never complete) the tasks that are set far in the future. One can detect that when viewing the classroom activities, where the majority of activity took place in the first week of the assignment, even though some of these tasks were open all term.

I agree with 's idea about reopening different types of challenges (instead of just HA ones) for new or busy members. Then, the deadlines wouldn't seem like such a crux.

there were some word/logic problems that may have brought in more house points if people could work on them together. I personally didn't want to ask anyone when I was stumped or tell anyone when they were, because I thought it might be cheating, even though if I were a student at Hogwarts I definitely would have helped my friends with their homework! example: There was one scrambled word: PotterWatch that I had figured out because I am rereading the books, but not everyone would have gotten that, even looking online.

I only have time on Sundays and Wednesdays to look over things that are due, and if I have something I have to do at home on Wednesday afternoon, I may miss a deadline completely if it's too short. On the other hand, is right, if it's too long we postpone it. Overall, I think they were spot on, some with longer due dates than others.

I had an idea, but I'm not sure if it would even out points or not... If you don't set a point value for assignments right away, but wait until the deadline and decide the value according to the number of people who answered(less participants would mean a higher max points for that assignment) and do this for each house This would be more complicated, grading-wise though I don't know if I'm making any sense right now I'm a little tired, lol

Just so I'm understanding correct, when you say "and do this for each house" do you mean give houses different point scales?

@ mary yes, that way the house(s) with less active/participants can get more points per assignment, and I think(possibly) the scores would be more even?

Feel free to tell me it doesn't make any sense, that it's a horrible idea and it wouldn't work, lol I'm going to bed now because I can't concentrate at all XD

Hi all! I just wanted to let everyone know that we haven't forgotten about what was discussed here. My main objective for this term was to introduce group activities to try to see how it will impact how points are earned. I have one that is ready to go. However, I just wanted to make everyone aware that it is quite possible that it might not happen this term. There is a bug on the site right now that is not allowing for new forum group forums to be created. Why does this matter, you ask? Well, in order for these group activities to work, you need somewhere to work on the activity without the other houses being able to see your answers. This was going to be accomplished by having the separate house ping groups act as a place for you guys to work on your answers. But since Slytherin and Gryffindor's groups don't currently have forums, we're unable to start the group activities until we can create a place for you guys to work on them.

That being said, we have implemented some slight changes for this term. I don't know if you've noticed, but we've changed the amount of points given out for some of the activities. Activities that are generally puzzles and brain teasers have only been giving 10 points rather than 15 and 20 points, while lesson assignments and challenges that involve more creativity, such as the writing challenges and the upcoming forum group image challenge have been giving out between 15 and 20. I'm really liking this change so far.

We are also planning on reopening challenges for members that may have missed some of the earlier ones later down the line. This will include almost all challenges, not just the HA challenges!

Anyway, I just wanted to give you guys an update. We really appreciate all of your feedback and help with shaping the cult!
