I'm not sure how a warning for the achievement would have helped if the page didn't work.

And this, the page caused server problems, having everyone rushing to sell / get more pure on their account so they could get this achievement doesn't make any sense. At the most I would have made an announcement that the page was gone, which, you can tell by the page being gone.

Sure, but I took it offline because it was causing server problems. I think that the outcome (you noticing that the page is gone) is the same (the page is gone). This wasn't a retirement, you aren't missing out on an achievement or items, so I'm not sure what difference it makes.
