- I've just contacted some people about this - unfortunately Keith has been sick the past week and this one slipped by us before he could pass the reins over. It should be worked on later tonight, thank you for your patience.
We didn't get a newsletter out when we originally planned because the way we used to do newsletter was no longer available (along with other issues unfortunately!). We've set up a new system that allows and I to do a lot more (like emailing users with more than just newsletters if the need rises) without needing programmer to be around. Our intention is to do it more seasonally than in the past, yes. That's why we focused on spring related things in this newsletter. In April and May, you'll notice quite a few things we hinted at within the newsletter. :)
Coming in to second what said - but sending out 10,000+ emails is hard. Sending them out in a way that doesn't immediately go into gmail spam folders (because you're sending out 10,000+ mostly going to gmail) is harder. Making sure that you keep track of who has opted in to what is even harder.
We've been looking to solutions to this outside of rolling our own, or using something like MailChimp which requires people to opt-in to newsletters (not popular - the majority of users wouldn't actually do this and then we aren't really reaching the goal of reminding people who haven't been around in awhile of what is going on / subeta exists). Rolling our own is what we've done in the past and you've seen the results - sometimes people get 2-3 of the same newsletter and frequently people get none.
Instead we've slowly been working this kind of data into systems to see how they work out. We've tested a lot of newsletter sites over the past few months (I've got hundreds of TEST emails in my inbox :P) and we've settled on the one that we sent out today because it's a suite of tools that will work well with our future goals (replacing parts of the site like the ticketing system with a more robust and immediate solution) and fingers crossed it actually sends out to most users and goes into the correct places. It's great because it includes tracking on things like where people click, so we can see what works and what doesn't going forward :)
tldr: There was a huge delay, we were working really hard on finding a good solution and have hopefully settled on one for going forward.
