"Chocolate frogs? Niña, I would love one." He backs up a bit, as more students start crowding around him. "Alright, give me some breathing room before I hex you all into mañana"

"What are you two whispering about over there... go on, spit it out!"

"This thing?" He laughs and removes the hook, revealing a stub that stopped at the wrist. "You students know that once something is cursed off, it can't be fixed. Come on, that's basic stuff!" He shook his head. "I bet I'm going to have to keep an eye on you two, you look like trouble makers." He didn't go into detail about how he lost it, that's more a story for only his close friends. "Don't you have stuff to do? Ãndale! Get outta here!"

"I hear it is my turn to speak to you all, children," the Potions Master says as she takes her seat at the teachers table. Professor Jade Mathers takes a sweeping glance around the Great Hall. "Not many of you here tonight, I see. Must be cheerfully warm outside..." Though she uses the word cheerfully, she looks more like the warmth would do nothing to cheer her. "I'll have no nonsense in the Great Hall tonight, chaps. Eat your supper, ask your questions, then kindly take your shenanigans outside while the sun is still up."
Professor Mathers takes a small sip of water while she ponders the answer, and possibly hiding a smile. "The Potion for Dreamless Sleep has always been a favorite of mine, Miss Blackwood. I was plagued with night terrors as a small child. I found it quite helpful. Though if it is made wrong, it can have some terrible side effects. I also would not recommend drinking it on a regular basis. Not only are dreams important to our health, the potion can turn your fingernails quite green if taken too often. Biscuit?" She holds up a tin of shortbread biscuits to the girl.
The professor watches the exchange for a moment, then clears her throat. "Some of the Heads of House are currently up for the Headmaster's position. I suppose if one of them wins, they'll have to fill the empty spot. The Deputy also needs to be appointed... So once all has been settled with the Headmaster spot, the others will be announced, I'm sure."
She then turns to Beth.
"Miss Hale, in order to excel in the first class, you'll need to bring your listening skills. I do not tolerate students who allow their mind to wander and then ask me to repeat the instructions once it's time to brew." She looks Beth up and down, then nods, seeming to have decided on something. She holds the tin up again. "Biscuit?"
Professor Mathers clears her throat. "My apologies. Your question was what, my dear? Oh, of course, what I enjoy most about teaching Potions... It takes a great deal more attention to detail when brewing Potions than it does subjects like Charms. I enjoy to see students become particularly successful at it. While charms can go wrong if you use the wrong wand movement or the wrong inflection in the incantation, there are a lot more steps to Potions that could go wrong. Too much or too little of an ingredient, the wrong number of stirs, and so on."
She nods at Alexa in acknowledgement and holds the tin up to her as well. "Miss Bristow, likewise. A Muggle chemist, you say? I've heard about those, but I've never taken the time to learn about them personally. If I might be so bold, are both your parents Muggles? If they are, you may find Healing at Home with Herbs by Phyllida Spore helpful, to see how healing with herbs may compare to Muggle remedies."
"Enough with boring them, Mathy!" Professor Deidra Morgan stomps in, caked in dirt as always. She pulls off her gloves and steals a biscuit from the tin. "I'm surprised ya'll are asking about school work and books. Tut! If it were me, I'd be asking about the castle and the grounds! Nothin' like 'em."
"Every student wanting to fully understand Potions is going to need to know about Herbology, that's for sure! Ya' need to identify your ingredients, don't ya'? That's why ya'll will be having your first lesson with me before you see ol' Mathy here."

"The quality of the ingredient definitely has an effect on the quality of the potion. For instance, ya' wouldn't want a draft made from mandrakes to be made with the whelps! Whoever you're trying to de-petrify may not wake up, Miss Blackwood."
"Miss Hale, a pleasure!" Professor Morgan dons a huge grin. "Other than the greenhouses, you mean? The courtyards are a wonderful thing in the fall. If you're into books, like I can see Miss Bristow over here is, it's a lovely place to read. The lake in the summer is the place to be! It's when the giant squid is most active. He's a handsome beast, he is. Not magical at all, though, mind you."
Professor Morgan takes a seat at the teachers table and drops her gloves onto the table. "The docks and the forest. We've got a large population of acromantula in the forest. I'm not fond of spiders in the slightest, let alone giant ones. Mathy would tell ya' their venom is dead useful, but I'm not about to go risking my tail for it. The docks are just creepy, 'cept for when the first years are coming in."
"Oh ho ho ho. Such curious lads here today. Don't be shy, you can ask old Charms Professor, Christopher Norman anything."

"Well, hello there miss Amanda. I'm looking forward to teaching such a bright and eager student the wonders of Charm work." He nods, clearly flattered by her enthusiasm. "Well, I can certainly say that I've never been asked that before! I hail from Iceland. You'll find out before long, that many students call me Santa. Both because of how I look, and where I'm from. Don't pay them any mind, I most certainly am not Santa."

"Hello there little Luna. What a pleasure to meet you too. Not too close though, I'm allergic to cats. Such a shame, because I find them simply adorable." He put his hands behind his back and stepped back a half step. "Why don't you go speak with Professor Pheobe Sparks? She loves animals."
