[-viola] [everyone] (edit: sorry, forgot to ping you, AnneWho!) Sorry for the wait! I received justice for it, though: in the form of a terrible sunburn that makes me want to carve open an aloe leaf and sleep in it...
Due to the excess character length, I posted the starter in the original/first post. I still have a bit of proof-reading to do, but I think you can get the gist of it.
Feel free to reply with any (reasonable) length. Like I said, most of it was just 'setting the stage'. And remember to leave each other enough length of time to reply! I would recommend letting 2+ people reply before replying again, but do whatever feels most natural. Hope you guys will enjoy. :*
Edited to add: I also added a link to a medicinal herbs website in the original post, for anyone interested in the aspect of healing!
OOC: It's okay! I hope your sunburn heals quickly!! :) Please bear with me as write this! I'll probably edit a lot!! Rosalinde will be on the same ship as Halli? Is everyone on the same ship as well? Also, do we know what the tent situation is yet? Anyone sharing? Things like that?
BIC: Rosalinde went around the ship making sure to everyone was comfortable and feeling well, then grabbed some small things to eat for Jasmin and Amal to eat. She made her way to their spot to give them the bread and some fish.
"I got you two some food. Eat up." She said smiling gently at the two.
"Thank you Rosa!" The two said getting ready to stuff their faces.
Rosalinde smiled some more before going to make another round for those who actually were falling ill. While she was walking, she heard Roki telling Dagr about the new land that was found.
“Yes, yes, all of that! The widest, largest valley! Trees and birds and deer! – drinking from streams!â€
She felt her spirits lift a little bit at those words, hoping they were true. She noticed Dagr's look of concern and focused on the positive thoughts of this land sure to arrive soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the ship hit land, she helped set up camp while monitoring the younger two. Shortly afterwards, she went to the forest to collect some herbs, telling Jasmin and Amal to stay near the camp for a bit. She returned shortly with several herbs like ground pine, rakkyo, and several others.
"Jasmin. Amal. If you want to, you may play around with the other kids. I'm going to look around some." She said, barely finishing her sentence before the two of them ran off together to find the other kids.
Rosalinde let out a small sigh while shaking her head at the two before walking through the camp. She spotted Halli stepping through the people at work.
"Did Dagr let you roam free, Halli?" She called out, making her way towards him.
While walking over, she heard about the supposed horses in the valley.
I will have to go and see if it true myself then. If so, I would very much like to have one. she thought to herself.
OOC: I hope this was a good starter for my character. :)
OOC: [-viola] Oh – yes! Everyone's on the same ship, as it was the only ship to survive the journey.
As far as tents – I'm not going to assign them to anyone or anything, so if anyone would like to share, feel free to talk to each other about it out of character. I'd figure that healers will be given their own tent and can choose to share it if they'd like. But since they're healers, they might desire a little place of their own. More common people – like the fletchers and fishers – would most likely have to share with each other. But like I said, I'm not assigning anyone to share, because I figure the characters themselves would do what's best for them. :^)
And eventually, the people will have built enough houses for everyone. Although that'd take as long as you think it might! Farms are probably the number one priority right now.
Good starter! Hope others reply soon.
@ everyone Also, depending on the activity of OOC posts in this thread, I may make an OOC thread over in the RP Planning sub-forum. It'll probably be needed for future planning – where we're taking the plot, general developments, and things like that.
OOC: Great! Thank you for telling me! I was curious about the tenting situation. :)
OML NO I WOULD NEVER WISH THAT FATE ON ANYONE!! I hope your sunburn heals quickly and that the skin damage isn't too much. The wait wasn't long; thanks so much for trying so hard and your starter looks great btw!! O also, maybe a cult is in order? If you start one and we all join then you can just ping the cult and that would be way easier. Also AHHAH I WONDER WHO'S TENT ARTURO IS IN ( ͡͡° ͜ ʖ ͡°) (no but literally he probs can't share with Ragna although I feel like bakers and farmers--- but I IMAGINE HIM AND MAGNUS AND IT'S TOO SOON)
Arturo wasn't prepared for the voyage. He knew he never would be. At the moments he thought about what lay ahead as the rest of the town packed his thoughts were too scrambled to be discernibly coherent. In the large cloud of fear that remembered the physiological damage he associated with ships there was also the question of 'How am I going to work again?'. He didn't really wonder if he would find land again, if he would die on the ship, or anything akin to the other villagers thoughts, instead he was fearful about finding a new home, a new oven, and of the ship itself. He used to have nightmares of those big hurling sails, of the waves that tasted worse then the sweat he would wake up to. He wasn't sure why, he never had thought he would die but maybe that was it. Being stuck endlessly rolling with splinters in your back and burns on your arms with out the promise of anything better is something to fear. As for his business, did he really have the money to start it up again? He had no skills for building and although his customers had begrudgingly given him enough through out the years to pay for such work he wasn't sure if it would be accepted. Plus, an oven was something he needed and no one else could build that but a blacksmith...
He wanted to purge himself of his own heart. Claw it out of his chest, or throw it up with anything else that touched his chapped and spittle covered lips, he didn't care. He wanted it to leave so that it could stop lurching each time the boat did. Ragna was of little help to him at this point. She would try and bring him food, tell the usual (jokes) but she seemed worried too. Probably because of the sea threatening to swallow her up but Arturo's stomach was acidic at the slight possibility that she was anxious for him. She had never seen him act this way. Probably couldn't fathom that the last time he had been on a sailing boat he was braced to the mast but now, the only thing he had to brace himself was white knuckles and legs that shook against the edge of the boat. He didn't want the pity he didn't like being the cause of uncertainty. But he couldn't bring himself to respond to or mask his feelings like he desperately needed to. He just want this all to stop, all to stop, all to go away. (Luckily she had family to go to.)
When they made it to shore he kissed the land and thanked gods he didn't even believe in. There were other's like him, on their hands and stomachs praising the skies above. Plenty of people were happy to get on land but Arturo was probably one of the happiest. He was weeping, it was a small stream that started when the word swept through the crowds on boat and it was a thunderous waterfall even as the sky was falling and fires were being set. He cried a few more times before the party final set off for a permanent home. Little things set him off, his inability to eat after so long of not doing so, his appearance because of it, simply waking up and being on land, when he heard his ship was the only one to survive (and he found himself wishing that he had been on one of the others instead). He managed to suck it up by the time he put his bags on his back. He was still shell shocked and wouldn't be able to laugh as easily as before but every step further away from the shore helped.
By the time they made it to the camp he was able to make a few nervous jokes, laugh shakily and when he got to the green valley after a long walk in a forest that reminded him of his childhood, he was even able to share some of the excitement of the townsmen who had made it. He wasn't able to think about where he would sleep or anything more then the current moment but he was able to smile and pass Ragna a dry joke, "Now if only there was some freshly plowed fields."
OOC: Sorry for interrupting everyone's posts with OOC posts, but...
I decided to make a forum tag instead, to tag everyone at once! Players, please join and let me know how you'd feel about making an OOC thread (for regular chit chat, planning, major plot developments, etc - obviously I talk a lot so I'm all for it :P).
edit: I may also be making another character later!
(( I hope your sunburn heals quickly! :] But it sounds like you had a good time despite that. haha! You're intro was beautiful! :] ))
((psh. he could totally share a tent with Ragna. she'd love the company. ;] haha! oh but Magnus and Arturo...so tempting! :P ))
Ragna Daven - Farmer and Magnus Torvald - Blacksmith
Magnus sat at the edge of the boat his forearms pressed against the railing. His blue eyes scanned the empty horizon wanting nothing more than to spot another ship, but it was a futile search. They were long gone. They were the last ones and if they didn't find land soon, people were going to die. They were running out of food and what they did have was barely edible. He watched children perish. His siblings were barely hanging on. He gave them whatever food he had deciding they needed it more than he did. He watched other families praying to the gods that they'd find land soon. He didn't much like watching his people suffer.
He spotted Arturo across the ship from him looking just as sickly as the others. He wondered if he was just seasick or if he was sick from memories. He'd been slave when Magnus had met him, but he was now his own man. Those days still haunted Magnus, but he did his best not to let it get to him. At least they were talking; albeit minor conversations, but conversations nonetheless. He shifted his gaze around the ship and watched Ragna a moment as she spoke with her brother and sister-in-law. She seemed to be doing well, despite the lack of food, but she was always a strong woman. Halli was with Dagr and Rosalinde was with her family.
Everything was green. It was the greenest land he'd ever seen in his life. Magnus stared with his mouth hanging open. The three day trek had been well worth it. The valley was an ideal area to set up a home. It would take them many months to make this land home, but it would be well worth it. Magnus didn't waste time in helping others into camp and setting up tents for families. He wasn't sure what his plan was at the moment, but he knew very well that he needed to set up a tent for his siblings.
Ragna stayed with Arturo while her brother and sister-in-law went on their merry way chirping away excitedly. She eyed the land ready to lay claim to a plot of land for her crops. She'd brought hundreds of seeds with her for this moment and here they were standing in a valley ripe for the picking. She glanced toward Arturo shaking her head lightly. "That would certainly make things easier," Ragna agreed, turning her gaze back on the valley. Everyone was busy setting up tents and chopping wood for fires. There was so much going on and all Ragna wanted to do was explore the land a little more. She needed to find the right spot for her home. "Arturo, would you help me find a good place to set up my tent?" Ragna asked, raising an eyebrow.
New OOC thread here! OOC: Sorry about the wait. I finally finished my second character's biography (posted on the original post on page 1), and I'm looking for some kind of relationships with other characters before I post a starter for him.
Halli Geirrson, 14, Apprentice Healer The sight of Rosalinde made him smile. He hadn't had time to count the heads of everyone when they got off the ship, and he didn't have a sense for life around him like Dagr did (sometimes Halli swore he had power beyond what he could imagine). To see her healthy and happy meant that not only was she okay, but her family was, too. He'd grown fond of them over the eternity on that ship.
"Yes. I think I'm proving to be a bad apprentice," Halli answered, with a strange smile on his face. He'd gotten a few feet from Dagr's tent when he turned around and retrieved his staff from it, using it to walk (still sickly, but alive nonetheless) the rest of the way to her. "Have you been to the woods? Dagr says it's full of healing herbs like he's never seen before. Do you need any help? Hopefully not with herbs - I'm no good at identifying them."
The boy turned around entirely to take the sight of everyone else in. He could pick anyone doing anything right now - fishing, plowing, gathering, cooking - and they'd no doubt have a thousand things for him to do. He felt most comfortable offering his hand to another Healer, at least. Before they could work too hard, everyone needed to regain their strength.
"Have you set up your tent? I can help with anything," he offered, all too eagerly for his physical strength at the moment. "Are Jasmin and Amal okay?"
Rosalinde chuckled at Halli's strange smile. She observed him as he grabbed his staff.
Still not completely healed I see. she noted with a slight frown.
"I was there not that long ago actually. I could go get more soon if you would like to accompany me." She said answering his questions. "I had to stop because I could only hold so much. Perhaps we should bring a basket? And there's no need to identify them for me really."
She glanced around the grounds watching the people work around them while the two of them talked. The smell of the food being cooked was wonderful. On one side, she watch the kids helping people if old enough, or well enough. Those who weren't helping were running around playing.
"Have you set your tent? I can help with anything. Are Jasmin and Amal okay?"
Rosalinde barely caught what he said. She noticed his eagerness and sighed, with a smile on her face.
"You know, Halli. You should allow yourself some rest. You're still recovering from your illness," she said still smiling. "However, I fear I didn't do such a great job at setting up the tent by myself so I would be more than happy if you did help me at some point today. And yes. They are okay. They're either helping out the others or playing around."
She glanced towards the area they would have been and saw Amal playing with some kids. Then she noticed Jasmin helping with gathering while watching over the kids.
