(OOC: @ GreenRowan Hi GR, I'm part of the Midnight Dancers and was wondering.. to what extent are we allowed to modify our vehicles? We are assuming that we're only limited to resources we can find within the forest, but it'd be great if you could confirm/clarify this!)

(OCC:

You are allowed to remodel freely into anything that doesn't look Unseelie. The "death/coffin" vehicle was too much for the faerie Realms, and would have drawn more of the Unseelie elements with it.

Termina did know what she was doing. :D

Your resources aren't limited.)

Chapter 5: Raider’s Folly Post 1 of 5

Quote by Reaper
I groaned as my eyes opened to bright light filtering through the windows. Where the hell was I and who forgot to shut the blinds? My neck cracked as I rolled off the soft bed, body protesting getting up – when I could finally open my eyes all the way I remembered. Seelie court, party all night, way too much fae booze. I sighed and changed, at least we didn’t have to meet with royalty today and I could wear something far more practical than the dress – not a lot of hiding places for a magic staff in that outfit, even one shrunk down. I think I had a perma-bruise between my boobs actually, damn it. Ah well, the top would probably cover it. I dressed quickly and bundled my hair up on top of my head, I’d need to do something about it when we were back, but until then it could just stay out of my face. I grabbed my staff and headed out to the chariot.

We got as far as the gates before the Seelie redirected us, passing off Vibrissa and Grumpus to us to escort out safely. I mean really? With our track record? I sighed softly to myself and stepped into the chariot, ready to be back at the Squirrel – I had things to deal with that did not include drinking all night (probably). Of course, nothing is ever that simple for us – we made it nearly halfway back and I was starting to hope we’d make it without incident. I should’ve known better. When the Unseelie forces appeared on three sides I let out a heavy sigh, I was really not in the mood for this.

Quote by Raven
I was feeling much better about the evening after enjoying the fact that no one noticed I was the Drow queen. Some of the entertainments proved to be some venders selling things. Die bought a dress for me he spotted as he said it was too pretty to pass up. I think he’s going to be a bad influence on my wardrobe—or good influence depending on the view point I guess—I’m still trying to get used to the idea of me wearing dresses; not exactly practical for running in. I wasn’t as entertained with all the pomp and circumstance of the Seelie Court but I put on a smile and pretended. Then came the morning, dressing in my leather pants and crop top—and I felt a sense of dread upon returning. Vibrissa and Grumpus where hiding low in the chariot and then I saw the large army awaiting us. I honestly wasn’t sure exactly what I was planning on doing or taking out first—but I leapt onto the top of the chariot and was about to spring off when Die grabbed my waist and yanked me back inside.

Quote by Die
Die had not been in awe of the Seelie court- so many splendors was bound to make one nauseous in large doses. And don’t even get him started on people putting their squishy wing parts on him in a hug. Vibrissa had nice perfume though he would give her that. The food was also splendid and he made many notes as they ate the night away.

The next day brought an end to the party, however; a grim reminder that all was not well as they were ushered through a secret entrance. Really, with their bright pink wing covers it was little wonder they were confronted when only halfway home. Maybe pink was a bad choice. He motioned to their guests who huddled in the bottom of their vehicle, his gaze sweeping over the enemy with a shudder. How he itched to take control of those damn skeletons and turn them on each other. Not wise in mixed company.

Then a flurry of motion had him reacting, a strong arm yanking Raven back into the chariot with a hard glare. “Don’t even think about it. This is our only protection. That goes for all of you damn it!” Reaper and Paddy got a look as well before the chariot rocked as something hit it. Fucking wizards… he dropped to one knee and opened his satchel, reaching deep as he pawed through the contents. “I think I can handle the skeletons, Paddy come help me. Come on ladies this is not a tea party-“

It didn’t need said that Die was extra snarky under pressure.

Quote by Raven
I was not exactly thrilled at being stopped from jumping out to run and stab at things—we weren’t even that high. However, Die’s fierce glare held me silent. I looked at the army surrounding us and thought of Die running headlong into the fray and my heart sank. Okay, point taken—it was a little foolish to take on this many forces by hand. “Fine,” I hissed somewhat grumpily, going for my bag and gathering all my throwing stars and knives, “but you owe me and it had better be damn good. No dresses.”

I slipped my throwing stars into the pouch hanging on the side of my black leather trousers. I would use my knives first. Looking at the first wizard I threw the knife directly at his hand. The knife flew through the air and impaled the wizard’s hand, right through the fireball. He shot the green fireball at me and I ducked in just enough time for it to whiz by me.

Chapter 5: Raider’s Folly post 2 of 5
Quote by Die
Die rolled his eyes, not even bothering to comment on that. He had likely saved her life or at least a lot of pain. Hopefully they all knew to stay ducked behind the walls of the chariot or else an archer could pick them off easily.

Carefully he withdrew a vial full of dark, murky liquid wishing he had time to craft a weapon to use it in. It would have to do in its raw form. He handed it to Paddy. “Toss this with minimal movement into the middle of the skeletons,” he muttered, reaching back into his pack while keeping one eye on the werewolf. “And don’t drop it or we’ll do their work for them!”

The how of it would be seen once she did as told, the vial slowly spinning and falling among the dead army. A second later and earth and bone, smoke and leaves exploded in a spectacular display. The debris rained down on them and thankfully the weapons were heavy and fell short. If his calculation was right he had just destroyed half of that little army and left the test to try and regroup.

Quote by Paddy
"Don’t even think about it." I stared at Die—as if I was going to even consider leaping from the chariot; it was more than enough at the moment just to not look down.

I looked at the oncoming hoards and realised that my weaponry skills were still lacking. If only I&;d spent more time learning how to wield a sword safely, instead of training Ivan, but there was no time for wishes as Die pressed a vial into my paw.

Aiming straight at the skeletons, I lobbed it as gently as I could, ducking as the vial landed in the middle of the army. I wasn&;t sure what would happen, but I didn&;t really want to see it for myself. Ok, so I could throw something with semi-decent aim, but a quick glance at Raven throwing her knives made me realise I still had a lot of work to put in before I could be anywhere near as good at battling as the others. I peaked over the side of the chariot and realised Die&;s vial had destroyed half of the skeletons, but that still left far too many to count.

Quote by Reaper
I scowled and snorted at Die’s command. “Right, because I’m definitely likely to go hopping off of this and charge the enemy?” Who did he think I was? I thought they knew me better than that, my strength was not in physical combat. I could hold my own if I had to, but I was far better at a distance. I tuned him out and surveyed the scene – this was not going to be easy. A handful of mages to the right, nasty looking archers – something about them just rubs me wrong – ahead, and too many skeletal fighters to the left. Shit. And oh looky, the archers just shot a volley of arrows our way. I flexed my magic, moving my staff in an arc above our heads and calling forth a sheet of ice to catch the first round. Arrows thunked into the block above me, fissures appearing in the ice. I flung it off behind us, useless now that it had been damaged, just in time to get rocked by a blast from the left. I glanced over and saw half the skeleton army disappearing. Or rather, not disappearing, if the suspicious white crap falling into my eyes and open mouth was what I thought it was. Gross. Bone dust. Bone dust in my mouth. Damn it. I shuddered and glanced at my team, saw Raven flinging blades at the wizards and Paddy staring a bit shocked at the skeletons, Die was back to rummaging in his bag (did he take that everywhere, really?), and muttering to himself.

I sighed and ducked as a green blob of something or other came from the right – too close for comfort – before turning my attention back to the front. If they were working on the threats from our sides, then I should focus here. I could feel the wrongness pulsing off the archers in waves; it had to be possession, the vacancy in their faces pulling at me. It was horrifying, and I’d seen some truly horrifying things in my time. Maybe I could pull them out of it. I steeled myself, hand flexing roughly on my staff, the orb at the top swirling green and black as I pushed my magic into a circuit – from me to the staff and back again, not drawing anything from outside, not in this place. I don’t know how my magic will react to being in a realm infused with it, so I need to work with what comes from within naturally. I let out a steadying breath, reaching my awareness out to the archer on the nearest glider – gasping when I found his real consciousness locked away inside. My stomach roiled at the thought of these fae being used against their will, having no control over themselves. I shuddered before slowly winding my power around his true self, pushing strength at him, encouraging him to break the hold the dark magic of the Unseelie held over him. I felt my teeth grind together, felt myself tensing as I shoved more power down the line, murmuring inside his head, begging him to wake up wake up please wake up oh god I don’t know how much longer I can hold this connection please just wake the hell up already before – and there it was, like an explosion inside my mind, the elf coming back to himself, pushing out the Unseelie power, and me as well. I staggered in the chariot, dropping to one knee, as power slammed back into me. I laughed then, something a little darker than I meant, as I watched the archer come to and leap off the glider. One down, 11 more to go – I chuckled to myself at the absurdity of it. I don’t have the energy or the time to help them all lift their possession. It’s just not possible.

Chapter 5: Raider’s Folly post 3 of 5

Quote by Raven
I did not believe Die owed me anything. I was a sarcastic person too, but I didn’t use it with the gusto that Die did. The explosion took me by surprise and I lost my concentration for just a moment—luckily I managed to flop on the deck before the fireball would have hit my shoulder. “A little warning next time! I almost got my fucking arm taken off!” Angrily, I lobbed another knife at the wizard responsible for my almost wound. The spiralling knife lodged into the wizard’s skull. Blood oozed out of his head. Then I threw my last remaining knives in a quick succession. Shoulder wound, head wound and mortal chest wound to those three wizards. “We really need to get the hell out of here!”

I saw Reaper drop to one knee, knowing that freeing the elf had taken a toll on her. I clasped my hand on her shoulder. “Do you have enough in you to speed us through the skeletal army? If you do, everyone can stay down—I’ll hold any threats off with my swords as we plough through.”

Quote by Die
Well, excuse him for being concerned. If his glare was anything to go by he was not even slightly amused. He bit his tongue, muttering something under his breath that was no doubt rude and aimed at her intelligence. No. He did not really know her. Reaper did not share her past; he knew mostly the small snippets he had gleaned from Raven. What he did know was that she was being a class one bitch and had been since they met up. As for his bag- fucking yes or had she missed that fact before? Reaper and Raven had their weapons, he had his bag. She didn’t really know him at all either.

“You’re a tougher woman than that so shut it,” he snorted, pulling out a vial then shaking his head and rummaging deeper. It wasn’t an insult and she should know it, merely confidence that she could handle herself; as long as she didn’t try to leave the chariot of course.

Quote by Reaper
I felt a hand on my shoulder and glanced up to see Raven looking at me concerned, asking if I had enough left in me to push us faster through the skeletons. I smothered another laugh at her misplaced worry, “I’m fine – it was the magic rushing back, not exhaustion. And yeah, we can barrel over them, but that won’t stop the damned wizards and archers from blasting us to one of the seven hells.” I tightened my grip on my staff and stood, pulling my power out and pushing it through the chariot, shifting us closer to the skeletons so Raven could release some of her bloodlust and hack a few of them apart. “Better?” My lips twitched as I watched her grab for her blades, of course she was better now. However moving us didn’t remove the rest of the threats. “Do you think the two of you could do something about the damn wizards?” I shouted towards Die and Paddy as I ducked another green ball of – seriously what the hell was that, it looked awful and smelled rancid. It splashed into a skeleton and I swear the thing just…melted…into a steaming pile of ick. I moved back to the front of the chariot, facing the archers again.

We’d been lucky so far, nobody hit with an arrow yet, but I could see them stuck everywhere in and around the chariot. Time to do something more permanent about them. I gathered my power again, aiming to free the second archer off the lead glider. I pushed it into his mind, working him free just as I had his friend, when something struck my shoulder and broke the link. I fell, back slamming into the bottom of the chariot, gasping with pain as I heard a crunch beneath me. What in the fuck was that? I looked down and began to wish I hadn’t – there was an arrow lodged into the join of my shoulder and chest, blood seeping out around the arrowhead. Shit, this was bad, and also was going hurt a lot worse. I let go of my staff and grasped the arrow, taking deep breath before yanking it out. “Shit fuck out shit,” a litany of curses spilled from me. I could see the others looking at me with concern and alarm, but we really didn’t have time for that. I managed to get back up, staff held tightly in my right hand and eyes glowing as I started to pull magic from the ground beneath us. Hopefully I didn’t kill us, but I was just about done with this. I began to slowly spin the staff, filling it with magic as I drew more from the land, soaking myself in it. The blood flowing out of my shoulder began to glow faintly in time with my heartbeats, magic infused into every cell.

My staff was whirling faster, orb nearly cracking onto the ground with every revolution, before I suddenly flung my arm out – magic flinging out of the staff in an arc at the gliders, “ENOUGH,” my voice echoed across the field as the gliders slammed into one another before crashing to the ground, archers flung off to who knows where. I sighed as the magic started leeching out of me, drawn back into the earth, and I slid down the inside of the chariot, face falling onto my knees. I was exhausted now, blood oozing slowly out of my shoulder. Raven reached for me, face horrified, but I batted at her hands, “s’fine, tired shhhh no,” I mumbled as I waved her back, hopeful that they had a clear shot out of this place now, because right at this moment I was pretty sure that I was not much help, fairly certain I was blacking out…yep, everything was getting fuzzy at the edges…I barely felt myself collapse completely, head gently banging onto the floor before everything was dark.

Chapter 5: Raider’s Folly post 4 of 5

Quote by Paddy
“Do you think the two of you could do something about the damn wizards?" As if I could do anything about any of them! I was too busy covering my eyes; it was bad enough knowing our chariot could fly, even if it was only a few inches from the ground, but with all those things attacking us? If it was rats, then that would&;ve been a different story, but Dark Wizards? "The best I can do is hand over any weapons you might need," I called to Die, "I want to be slightly more useful, even if I can&;t bear to look."

An arrow suddenly flew straight at my head, and without thinking I reached to grab it by the shaft. I don&;t know if it was the decision to catch it, or actually succeeding that shocked me the most, especially knowing that those arrows weren&;t like any weaponry I&;d come across before. Holding it gingerly in my paw, the chariot suddenly lurched to one side. Bracing myself against the side to stop falling over, Reaper was caught unawares and landed on the floor of the chariot. It took me a few seconds to realise that she not only had fallen, but had fallen onto the arrow I was holding. I couldn&;t help but feel responsible and utterly useless - I couldn&;t battle to anywhere near the same level as the others, my tinkering skills were more suited to creating things rather than destroying, I can&;t stand heights, and then I catch one of those arrows only for Reaper to impale herself on it. I really should&;ve stayed behind and looked after the companions.

Quote by Raven
Notwithstanding the fact that I would much rather stab things than throw things at enemies, it was a practical choice. As in, getting the hell out of here. Skeletal armies didn’t feel, but they sure weren’t as bad looking as the remaining wizard. I didn’t exactly want to go wizard-bowling either. Reaper did as I wished and the skeletons were closer now. I licked my lips and drew my blades. Goodie, “real battle.” Still, even wanting to focus on the skeletons I watched inside the chariot instead.

Paddy held an arrow—looking a little freaked-out. I wasn’t sure if she was worried about the fast motion we were doing or the arrows or both. Reaper was focused on the Elven archers. She was entering the mind of one of them again and then the chariot shifted and suddenly Reaper fell backwards onto the arrow Paddy was holding. Still Reaper managed to crash all the gliders before collapsing.

Paddy’s eyes were wide with fright. “Shit!” I said, quickly sliding my swords back into their sheaths. Fuck the army, I had to check on my friend—besides we had the chariot to protect us for now. I bent over and checked on Reaper. Ignoring her hands swatting me away, I saw the wound, it was in the fleshy part of her shoulder, missing every single bit of bone. Talk about lucky. Die’s potions and salves had healed worse—I should know he used several on me—on two separate occasions. A few runes glowed as I put my hand over Reaper’s head. Yes, I was making sure it was her only wound—sue me she was family. I felt her life-force, felt how strong it was. “She’s fine,” I said somewhat shakily. When did those tears start falling down my cheek? “She’s passed out from a magical drain and probably too much indulgence in booze last night.” With that I left her side, confident that Die would take care of her and I would get us the hell out of this place. Paddy was more or less shell shocked.

Quote by Die
Die let the others do as they would, though he did spare Paddy a quick look. “You’re doing fine, just stay calm.” Then he found what he was looking for. The potion before was just a chemical that reacted violently to air and when it exploded it used the earth, branches and stones like little missiles. This one was specially formulated to cause more damage, the resulting fire white hot but short lived. Luckily he knew when to ignore the griping going on around him for if he didn’t someone was going to get ripped a new asshole.

He turned at the sudden surge of power and the cursing that held a frantic edge to it. What he hadn’t expected to see was a wounded Reaper trying to refuse the help of her friend, a shocked Paddy and a worried Raven. Bloody-fuckingtastic. “Paddy! Snap out of it,” he barked (barked, haha werewolf humor- not). Grabbing his bag he dragged it over to Reaper as Raven finished assessing then nodded. Getting to his healing supplies would be much easier.

Raven would get them out of there, shouldn’t a problem except for that one damn wizard. He grabbed Paddy’s paw and shoved the vial of blood red liquid into it. “Toss this at that bastard lobbing his green shit at us as soon as we are close enough that you won’t miss… then duck.” There- warning enough. Trusting in his companions he went to work on Reaper, pouring a sterilizing potion over the wound then binding it tight before coaxing a healing potion down her throat. All while the chariot rocked and swayed, things screeched and the wicked wizard of the forest exploded.

Chapter 5: Raider’s Folly post 5 of 5
Quote by Raven
The chariot knocked some of the remaining skeletons over and I was using my fury to fuel my battling. If they had been made of flesh and blood, they would have been spraying blood and guts all over the ground. The hooks of my swords connected with the ribs and ripped the chest cavity open on one skeleton. Another lost his head—more lost their arms. If only Die could command them—when he was working that skeletal army to save me it was awe-inspiring. I had never seen necromancy as powerful as I had seen his—he wasn’t just a run of the mill necromancer, no he was a master.

Despite wishing he could help, I managed to cut, quite literally, down a lot of the skeletal forces. Bits of bone flew all over the place as we raced towards the gates. I heard another explosion and turned. Another one of Die’s bombs erupted in a blast of earth, flesh, and blood—the last of the wizards had just been blown to bits as we crossed the gates to safety.

Wordlessly, I picked Reaper up. Die knew me—knew I needed to be the one to carry her. Every single rune on my body was lit up and sparking as I levitated up to the hotel. Die had seen all my runes activated before—when I used my magic to help kill my sister. Yes, my magic was very powerful—it was more powerful now that I was no longer afraid of it. Not that I wanted to use my powers like Reaper did. No, I was very happy with hacking and slashing at things. The other two climbed the ladder and followed me to Reaper’s room.

Quote by Paddy
I came to my senses long enough to lob Die’s bomb at the wizard. Then I stared at Reaper until we were safe again at the Wayward Squirrel. I&;d never been so pleased to see the end of a battle. Reaper’s wound didn&;t look too terrible, but I still felt guilty. There was no way I could carry her up to her room though - climbing up there would be enough for me to handle, so I let Raven go first. Of course she didn&;t climb up there like I was going to, but I still admired her lack of fear for heights. Finally the last rung of the ladder was in sight, and I crawled onto the floor. No matter how many times I had to climb that, it didn&;t seem to be getting any easier. Raven was standing outside Reaper&;s room with a puzzled look on her face. "Why don&;t you just open the door?" I asked.

Quote by Raven
I looked at the shaking wolf as I held onto Reaper. Clearly she didn’t like heights. I wondered if she’d be weirded out with my little trick of hanging upside down on tree limbs—best not to mention it. “Because I can neither open the door nor pick a lock with a passed out woman in my arms.” There was a slight flicker of humour in my eyes with my reply.

Quote by Paddy
Picking a lock? Now that&;s something I could do with relative ease. Rummaging my pocket, I pulled out a selection of metal fragments, a yoyo and a small slab of meat I&;d intended to give Ivan that morning. A quick rummage through my other pocket revealed the small toothpick I was hunting for. Placing it through the keyhole, I carefully flicked it from side to side, lining up the mechanism until with a satisfying click the door flew open. Satisfied that I was able to be some use at least, but still feeling guilty, I offered to sit with Reaper until she came round. Raven and Die needed a rest after all the battling they&;d done.

Quote by Raven
“Cheers,” I said to Paddy as I entered the newly open room. As I placed Reaper on the bed, I silently wondered if this was how it was like when I was on death’s door from my magical stab wound. At least Reaper wasn’t in any danger of dying. I removed Reaper’s boots and tucked her in bed. Spike landed on her pillow and went to sleep. I clasped my hand on Paddy’s shoulder. “She’s fine, my friend. It was nothing you did.” Still Paddy asked to watch over her. Since there was no full moon in sight, I nodded. I understood exactly what she wanted.

Clasping my hand in Die’s, I bid her good night. We went to our room, fed the brats and changed. In our bed, I laid my head on his chest and listened to his heart beating. His arm over my back and on my shoulder. He knew the sight of Reaper wounded bothered me. We didn’t need to say anything. I fell asleep in his comforting embrace with his chest as my pillow.

Quote by Die
Safety never looked so good. He was tired and feeling cranky. Raven carried Reaper, which was good; he probably would have dropped her. Then Paddy went. He waited for their ‘guests’ to go next, after making sure they were doing okay then finally followed just as the werewolf was picking the lock on Reaper’s door. The woman would be fine; he had done what he could though he did pass Paddy a pain potion for later in case it was needed.

No words needed to be spoken as Raven took his hand and they went to their room. The little monsters were fed; he took a brief moment to wash up before changing then curled in bed with his drow. Maybe they would not sleep long but fuck it; a little rest would go a long way before they had to deal with everything. Still, sleep was awhile in coming, his fingers playing with several locks of soft hair as he listened to Raven breathe.

The Morning After

Sunrise over the Seelie realm was something no poet in the universe could put into words.

As the sun breached the windows of their rooms, the Fallen Angels and their companions slowly started to stir. Stretching lazily Atrueheart was the first to wake, and tried to get the others moving, but no one was in any rush to leave such lush accommodations. "Come on y'all, we need to get moving if we're going to meet our coach and get back to the Borderlands." Webby, Jeice and Talli groaned in protest, Laurie yawned and Calie, who was now dressed and packing up the groups elaborate attire from the night before replied "I'll help with that True." and within minutes the room exploded in shrieks and squeals as her little lizard Geep ran from bed to bed.

"WHAT THE !??!" "EEEEEK!" "WHAT WAS THAT?!" "CALIE!" "Ok, ok, I'm up!" Laurie called out, joining the others in their protests. "Calie call off your slimy alarm clock!"

Geep returned to her shoulder as if nothing happened, Calie and Atrueheart's laughter brought the rest of the Fallen Angels to their feet. As usual, Laurie started looking around for her trusty No.2 and the scraps of paper she had smuggled in before she could hardly focus. Tucking her pencil behind her ear she noticed there were a few sets of sturdy leather boots, leggings, vests, cloaks and gloves hanging in the closet, made of the most beautiful earthly shades of browns and greens. "Um.. guys.. are these for us? Oh I hope they're for us, Jeice, Talli, True, did you see these?" she called before looking back at their leader, mage and alchemist who were already dressed in stunning Fae style.

Jeice was digging in the closet before Laurie finished asking about them. Without hesitation she joined her friend, but not Webby. Webby stood where she was, watching her beautiful dress being put into their traveling trunk and sighed sadly. "B-b-but we looked so pretty!" she cried. "Elegant clothing is fine for arriving here, Webby, but it simply won't do for a return trip." Atrueheart states. Jeice and Laurie both laughed, "Sorry Missy Prissy but let me be the first to say Thank the Gods for that!" Jeice quipped. As Laurie pulled her thick hair up into her signature ponytail she joined in "OhEmGee I know right!? If I never have to have that much crap on my face and in my hair again it'll be too soon!" "That's because you two have no sense of style isn't that right True!" Webby retorted, a smile replacing that forlorn look she had a few moments ago. "Whatever!" Laurie called back as Talli answered her question. "The Seelie King has given us some of their finest wears as a gift, Laurie, aren't they fabulous? Such soft yet strong leather is trademark for the Fae but most certainly a rare gift for outsiders, enjoy!"

...

Entering the court yard, Webby looked wistfully over her shoulder with a heavy sigh. "Get a move on Cinderelle" Laurie teased, using her best mouse imitation. "Even you and Jeice have to admit it was fun." Webby replied, sighing again. "No, no we don't." Jeice shot back. The others cracked up laughing and Calie chimed in "It was fun, wasn't it, dear. I know I.. Woah. Um, True? Who is that?"

Following Calie's gaze, Webby's jaw dropped. The light hearted ribbing immediately ceased and Atrueheart quickly stepped in front of her team, the rest of the Fallen Angels forming a semi-circle behind her. Jinx scampered up Atrueheart's side and perched on her shoulder, Laurie instinctively stepped in-front of Hope, Blue dropped lower into Webby's hair, Geep vanished into one of Calie's pockets, Talli's hand dropped to Moriel's head, and Jeice made a quick movement with her hand that brought Torchy instantly to her side.

As the stranger hurriedly approached them, a wave of uncertainty passed over the team. They had expected to find the unicorn coach they had arrived in waiting to take them back to the Borderlands at the gate, not a group of well armed Seelie archers...

The Battle from Bohemian

Chandie Teche gives a weak smile at the enthusiastic hug of the lilac winged.. someone they called Vibrassa... just knowing all the shiny decorations she worked so hard to trade for in the wig would fly away, yet with only a small discreet sigh, acknowledges Grumpus' smile with a nod. Very happy to stand near her team mates.. yes, now considered her friends, Chandie can't help but nervously glance at their surroundings, however remembering her manners she finally performs a perfect curtsy bowing low to the King and Princess with only minimal loss of glitter from her hair. The next day the team was ready to begin, they had their magic, music, weapons, companions all ready and were in their fighting clothes. Glancing at each in turn after nibbling on a breakfast...most too excited to eat, they suddenly all stood at once and with a grin left guarding the two with them.

Listening to Selwyn speak about the Unseelie growing bolder each day, Blood Frenzy began running several theories through her head as to what could be done to save the realms. It seemed an impossible task and extremely dangerous but something had to be done and quickly. But before she was able to run through any more strategies she was diverted by a patrol of Seelie archers. Niva, their leader, takes her to a side exit ,and says "The Unseelie know you are here. This exit will be the safest, but you must exercise great care."

The forest was so thick the sun could only be seen peeking through the canopy sparingly, which made viewing difficult at best. The team decided to keep Vibrissa and Grumpus in the middle and spread out in a circle around them until they were delivered to the secret place and safety, their companions diligently scouting looking for danger. Chandie kept an eye on the ginger fur of her dog, glancing at the other team members if she could see them. All seemed well versed in how to remain quiet as they moved through the forest floor. After deliver, making sure the secret place was perfectly safe, they quickly headed back. The forest suddenly was quiet. No birds, none of the usual animals of the forest. All was quiet and still. This definitely wasn't good. Her companion Ginger was looking in one direction only and head raised to sniff the air then suddenly turned in two other directions also sniffing the air....surely this can't be!

What we had feared could happen, had happened. We are suddenly flanked on three sides. To our left, we see at least two rows of skeletal warriors, brandishing swords, axes and even a few maces. The right isn't any better. Supporting the skeletal cavalry opposite are several Dark Wizards with green fireballs dancing around on their hands. From the front approach a half-dozen Death Gliders, with elven archers standing upright in the top surface as though glued in place, firing shatter arrows at your direction. These are the Possessed Selwyn described yesterday.

Trapped. Nowhere to hide and nowhere to run. The only thing to do is to stand our ground and attempt to fight our way out. (A few well placed prayers wouldn't hurt either).

We rapidly made a rough circle and stood back to back ready for the first attack.

"Galadeth, our mage, if you please go to where you can keep contact. Frenzy pointed where she meant for the mage to go, the rest stood their ground as Fenzy indicated. Chendie was at , frightened yet determined.

She had rarely used her music this way and was very glad of the scrolls she had spent a sleepless night studying. Suddenly there was a rustling in the leaves and the green fire was very apparent long before the Dark Wizards showed up. Immediately, Chandie knew what tune to play seeing that dreadful fire.. was it poison? With Ginger guarding her from physical harm as best she could, growling fiercely when anyone but their group came near, the tune began with her lyre making clear and demanding notes that permeated the air all around them designed to reduce that which looked like poison. Perhaps the fire will still be there, but not so deadly as previously.

Kronus and Dori faced the Death Gliders, Galadeth, our mage and Chendie faced the Dark Wizards, and Frenzy and Elne faced the Skeletal Warriors.

Frenzy leaned over and spoke to Elne. "See that pile of branches under those trees to our left. Do you think that you could go and get all the bent ones and bring them back here? It does not look like these Unseelies are ready to attack us just yet."

Elne looked towards where Frenzy was pointing, nodded once immediately understanding her intent, then with a grim look on her face, headed towards the mound. While Elne was gone Frenzy went over to Kronus and said, "I see quite a lot of rabbit droppings under that bush in front of us. Can you go and collect them please?" Kronus looked at Frenzy in a perplexed manner even managing a nervous chuckle, which seemed to say, "You have gone mad." But he left the circle and made his way over to the bush. Got down on his hands and knees and began stuffing rabbit poo into his pockets using a glove.

Frenzy then approached the mage. "Galadeth, the outcome of this battle relies on our cunning and your magic. This is what I need you to do." She then proceeded to outline her idea to the mage who simply gave a serious nod making sure her magic and bow and arrow ready.

As Elne and Kronus returned safely back to the circle, Galadeth began to chant and sway over the pile of boughs Elne had gathered. "Alakazam, Alakazoo, From boughs to boomerangs so go you!" The pile began to take on a life of it's own, and then, it became a pile of and

Bending over the boomerangs Galadeth took some deep breathes and exhaled with a snort, mumbling magical words that only another mage could understand yet it apparently gave the thrower of the boomerang right of passage to it's return back.

Completing the task with the boomerangs Galadeth made her way to the rabbit droppings. She asked Kronus to place them all on the ground. With that done she began, once again to utter the magic words, "Alakazam, Alakzoo, from poo to bullets, I make you." And, yep, you got it, ammo for the guns instead of rabbit poo, but these were silver bullets guaranteed to damage everything they targeted. With those tasks all done Frenzy asked the 3 to go back to their positions then went to the weapons they had made sure that they had retained when having to leave the bikes and continue on foot. All here, 8 guns, 8 shears. Taking the ammunition she shared it out between 4 guns, giving 2 guns to each Dori and Elne and gave the 8 shears, 4 each to Kronus and Chendie who gave a quick nod and tried to tuck them near Ginger to guard, while still holding her lyre.. and still continuing to play.

Except for Chandie and her music, the rest of us awaited the first move from our opponents. We did not have to wait long. The first thrust of the battle began with the Skeleton Warriors headed towards Elne and Frenzy. We decided to use the boomerangs. Throwing with our right and catching with our left. It took us quite a while to perfect our moves and when we did so everything "fell" into place. (ie the heads of the Warriors). A toss with the right arm, a crunch, thud and thump and off with their heads (warriors need heads). We were gaining the advantage.

Next the Death Gliders with their vacant eyes advanced towards Kronus and Dori. Dori attempted to alchemise the arrows but ended up with a smoke screen that gave us an advantage. With the smoke screen in place Kronus took shards of the Shattered Mirrors and under the cover of the smoke crept as close as he could to the Gliders, He placed the shards up and around in as many trees, at eye level as possible. Then he snuck back into position. When the smoke began to clear the Gliders once again began their advance. However as they approached the trees where the shards from the mirrors shone, the elven archers glanced upwards towards the sheen and were overcome by their stares being directly diverted back to themselves. This immediately caused them to fall from the top surface onto the ground below where very quickly they were finished off with well placed volleys from the guns Dori and Elne held.

Dark Wizards with the green fireballs dancing around on their hands were left to defeat. Kronus and Chendie took hold of the shears (which had also been spellerized by the mage to return to sender) and flexing their arms back, then forward in a sweeping motion, let them fly straight towards the fireballs. Ping, pong was the sound as the shears hit their poisonous targets. Again they concentrated on their targets and threw the shears. Again nothing but the ping pong sounds as the shears rebounded off. Chandie Teche began to strum her lute again and now in a different melody...the fireballs began to grow dim along with the different color she had elicited earlier.

"Try now"

Kronus and Chendie once again threw the shears at their targets. This time with a hiss and a crunch the fireballs began to implode upon themselves. Again and again the two threw the shears until no fireballs remained. With no fireballs left to protect them the Dark Wizards quickly turned tail and left.

The forest was quiet, no clanking of skeleton bones, no hiss of fireballs, no swoosh of arrows, nothing.. not a sound but the quiet play of a bard playing the lyre with knees shaking too fearful to stop. Finally someone, was it Elne patted her gently on the shoulder and whispered softly...

"Chendie, you can stop playing now, we have defeated them and Vibrissa and Grumpus should be safe since we weren't attacked until quite a distance from them.'

With a weak, embarrassed smile, her freckles standing out prominently, the bard lowered her lyre as Ginger gave her a few licks. Looking around at the others, the biggest emotion shown was relief.. were they really alright now?

The Nightowls defend l'elephante! Part 1 of 2

Quote by Aria
The teapot carriage creaked and reeled as its wheels rolled over a tangle of roots. Aria held on to her seat as the carriage realigned itself with the path. &;This feels like we are riding atop an elephant not inside one,&; Aria grumbled to Dax who was reclining on the couch, acting like the ride was peaceful. She sent him a mind image that portrayed her disgust towards him while trying to look outwardly calm and composed.

Dax looked up at Aria with a glimmer of humor in his eyes and lay on his side pretending to be asleep. &;You&;re just complaining,&; he said with a mental yawn, &;because you&;re bored. Maybe you can try counting how many roots and rocks we roll over before we get there. That might help you relax,&; He said ending with a mental chuckle. Then Dax sent Aria a mind image of the elephant carriage falling apart after only a few more root encounters and then started to doze off.

Aria leaned back in her seat and pondered about the sturdiness of the carriage. The Prof did make a lot of carefully designed reinforcements and ensured us all that this teapot carriage was travel ready; still Aria felt uneasy.

Just as Aria began to relax she heard a noise. Sitting upright she listened more intently. She realized it wasn&;t a noise that had caused her to jump into alert vigilance but a lack of noises that are usually ever present in a forest. As she listened, she sensed that even the wind had quieted. Just as she was about to sound an alert she heard the faint noise of metal clanging and objects or creatures scraping against the trees.

"Everybody stand alert, we are no longer alone in this forest," Aria said in a hurried whisper. Aria ran up to the front of the carriage and poked her head up inside the trunk of the elephant and peered out the small window there. “We are surrounded by a variety of creatures,” Aria said to her crewmates and commenced describing the skeletal creatures, dark wizards, and archers that surrounded them.

Aria was overtaken by an intense feeling of excited fear that comes before she knows she is about to enter a fight. As she scanned for a possible escape route Aria felt the hair on her neck begin to stand on end and noticed the acrid taste of metal in her mouth. Her eyes widened and her fear dropped off into dread, “Someone out there is yielding dark magic,” Aria exclaimed! “Be very careful.”

After one more look it became apparent that there was no way to escape. Aria looked around at her crewmates faces as she delivered the news. “We have to fight our way through them. I can’t see a reasonable escape route that offers even a marginal chance of success.” Aria waited for others of the crew to come to the same conclusion before offering to fight.

“I’ll take the front end of the carriage and fend off some of the Elven archers,” Aria offered. “Does anyone else want to help with that?” Aria asked while looking around for Angelica. She was sitting next to Dax on one of the comfortable couches looking around tensely. Aria looked into Angelica&;s eyes and asked softly, “Are you ok?”

Le Mot de Cambronne! I had designed L&;elephante to keep us nicely, but she is no battle machine. &;TiBonAnge protect her from this malaise!!! My next problem was apparent at once as I watch les dames slipping and sliding on the slick porcelain skin of L&;elephante.

Just then, I noticed a bag overflowing with bottles and jars of cosmetiques. On the very top was a large tube labelled "Auntie Galadriel&;s Guaranteed Honey Depilatory And Beaute Preparation"

A quick spell from Vixen increased the tube size and soon we all had our feet coated in the sticky resin. HRH would live to be angry at me! And I knew she would be more mad that I had seen the tube than she would be mad that I took her cream. To be fair, chere, there is no guarantee that the tube belonged to HRH, but when one considers everyone aboard, it is a foregone conclusion.

Quote by Brynna
Things had started on a negative note for me when my pistol abruptly became a very pretty paperweight due to the Seelie magic. I stared at it laying at my feet and began to curse under my breath while frantically looking around for a spare crossbow or even a sword nobody else was using.

No such luck.

I admit, I was downright pissy as I climbed up into the drivers seat of our coach. My mood didn&;t improve as we ventured to the Seelie Court. I put on my "smooth" face as we walked into the Court and I tried to let the beautiful surroundings and almost musical voices of the Seelie soothe me.

We had passed by what appeared to be an armory on our way in and I was pretty sure I had spotted a crossbow in there through the partially opened door. So, on our way back to our carriage, I slipped inside and begged the attendant armorer for a weapon to replace my defunct one. I explained that I could hold my own with fists and feet, but I always felt much better with a weapon of some sort. The attendant understood my plight and granted me a quite stunning mithril crossbow (these Seelie seemed to make everything into a work of art!)and a fat pack of crossbow bolts with mithril tips as well.

In a much improved mood, I raced to our carriage, hopped back up top and settled in for what I hoped would be an uneventful trip back to The Squirrel and The Goose.
.....a bit later.....

I felt the hair stand up on the back of my neck and got that tingling feeling in my fingers that usually warned of trouble. I peered more closely into the forest surrounding us and saw that my tingling was right as usual. Three fronts of baddies and nowhere to escape.

"Shit!" I yelled and hammered my fist against the top entrance. "Trouble guys!"

Aria popped her head out, nodded as she saw the massing trouble and sank back into our lovely teapot coach to grab her gear.

Vixen quickly appeared and turned towards what I can only assume were magic users from the green glowing crud around their hands. She began working her own magic and seemed to be relatively unphased by what confronted her. Gotta say...I was impressed!

I turned back to see Aria finding a good fighting stance and Angelica, of all people, poking her head out too! I caught enough snippets of their conversation to gather that Angelica was performing lookout duties. She glanced my way with a look of disdain on her face and I couldn&;t help but feel a pang of guilt again about dragging her into this and plunking her in danger yet again. I started to speak, but before I could get the first work out, I saw a skeleton rider charging from the corner of my eye. Save her first, apologize later for needing to save her...I thought to myself.

So much time I put in a suspension system to make L&;elephante glide smooth along the roads, and these fool fees-they want to drive t&;rough de forest!

Zut! Merite pa mande. Checking I should have done.

Dantou rides just in my left ear as she likes, chere. The curve of the ear cradles her lovely immobile body. As we bounce along she hums softly as is how her kind do.

Her silence was my first warning. A split second later, Aria is sounding de alarms, chere. No fool, I, I &;ave no weapons because I knowing the fee will not allow them. What I gots is a leatherman tool-now mithril...eh, for the pawnshop it will be going, chere-and the two big speaker magnets...ah, and mes brains, chere.

Aria is off up L&;elephante&;s trunk as soon as she sets L&;Angelica as a watch.

Moi? Wit&; my trusty (mithril! &;TiBonDieu!) leatherman tool I cut about 2 1/2 meters of leather strapping from one of the reins and climb atop the head of L&;elephante. This is a very foolish place to die if I have assumed wrongly!!!

Merci, &;tiBonAnge! I am correct! The litches wit&; de swords-les swords are iron! (The fees&; fear of iron does NOT forbid them outfitting their servants with the cheaper metals!) Put&;etre not my day to join &;tiBonAnge!

I knot the magnets to the end of the reins and begin to whirl them above my own head. They begin to pick up both speed and centrifugal force. The bullroarer sound begins to cut the air bothering the concentration of all. (Bet me, chere that HRH gets a mal-de-tete from the noise and is yet further angries to me!)

I lean from L&;elephante&;s head as far to the left as I dare. I must be bold and focused. The magnetic bullroarer shouts in my ears as I stand in the cyclonic center of science!

BWANGGGGGGG!!!! The bullroarer&;s line goes slack in my hand as the mighty magnet pulls a sword right out of a skeletal hand. I pull the magnet back to me, with caution but swift...the litches do not need this sword back in their hands, although they might differ!

When I retrieve the sword, I&;m pleased to see that a couple fingerbones cling to the hilt! Litches be crazy! There is no more gloire for me now. Just the exhausting traval of launching the ungainly bullroarer and maneuvering it to catch more iron swords. With each sword I manage to haul back to L&;elephante I lose 2 in the heavy underbrush, but slowly the swords pile up behind me. I can not see if the disarmed litches are able to find the swords I have dropped in the bushes...HRH perhaps knows if good she is as a lookout. Each time, before I send the bullroarer aloft, I must check to see that the leather rein remains intact. Twice I replace it with a new section. I am aware that I am demolish the harness, hopefully the witch can guide the mounts home without reins, but for now my priority is to disarm the litches-as many as I can...it is a task beyond the work of one mortal man. I hope the other are doing well.

Quote by Vixen
She realized she was still standing there with her mouth open as others began to react to the threats that were all around our vehicle. Closing her mouth with a thunk she felt her body begin to gear up for the fight ahead and adrenaline flowed.

The dark wizards flaming green balls were rocking their vehicle from side to side and making it hard to stay on your feet. Vixen wondered how to counter such a threat with no usable weapons but then an idea struck her.

Grabbing her mirror from her satchel she quickly enchanted it so that the green fireballs would bounce harmlessly off of it and return to the general area from whence they came. Then she went to one of the windows and leaning out aimed the mirror at the nearest green ball heading towards them. Once it&;s reflection was caught in the mirror it turned around and headed back out into the air where after awhile it disappeared.

She aimed the mirror at the next wizards green poof and tried to be quick lining up the mirror since there were so many coming at them. She hoped that someone would be able to help her out but everyone looked like they had their hands full at the moment. She wondered where Cali was and hoped that she was somewhere safe.

Quote by Cali
Ah, this is better, thought Cali, as she leaned back against the umbrella. Sitting inside the carriage would have been so stuffy and this way she had a wonderful view of the forest, a nice little patch of shade, and she could be as comfortably scruffy as she liked - which was good since she&;d ditched her court dress as quickly as she could (hopefully whoever she&;d borrowed it from would find it) - plus no one could scold her for making a mess as she munched on a bag of nuts she&;d &;found&; on their way out.

"Want a peanut, Mr. Whiskers?" she asked the dapper cat. He was perched regally atop the teapot elephant&;s head, steadfastly ignoring her ever since she&;d ditched the dress. Cali shrugged; his loss.

Caught up in nuttiness, the first fireball splashing against the side of the elephant came as a shock and Cali jumped in surprise, overbalanced, and had to grab for the umbrella pole to keep from sliding off the slick ceramic. "What in the-" A good look around made it clear that there would be more than fireballs headed her way and with a yelp she shimmied up the umbrella pole to huddle in the cover it offered. She could hear the others already beginning to respond to the attack.

Teeth chattering she absently popped another nut in her mouth while she thought. She&;d never been much of a weapons person. Not like a sword would do me much good anyway, she thought wryly as she eyed the advancing enemies. Can&;t do much about skeletons or archers, but... She eyed her bag of nuts thoughtfully. There had been that week she spent working for an old wizard who&;d thrown her out after he caught her storing nuts in a corner of his workshop. He&;d been ridiculously upset about it - shouting about how nuts interfered with magic resonances or some such nonsense, and how just looking at them was giving him backlash. She&;d figured he was just crazy, but he been going all red and shouty and breaking out in hives...it couldn&;t hurt to try, right?

Quote by Angelica
I spoke to no one as we rode in the coach away from one of the most unforgettable places I had ever laid eyes on. After visiting the Seelie court, I was in such a good mood that nothing could possibly bother me - not even Brynna&;s continued avoidance could put a dampener on my spirits. The faerie court had exceeded my expectations. The way they had greeted us and treated these &;Protectors&; as honoured guests... I guess being caught up in all this wasn&;t so bad after all! But that also means that this group of people (which I am now somehow a part of) are a force to be reckoned with. So the &;stories&; I heard about their feats were true after all...

I was jolted out of my thoughts when I felt the coach come to a stop and Aria alerted us that we weren&;t alone. My good mood began to drain away as a sinking feeling took its place in my stomach. Aria&;s announcement that we were surrounded by scary-sounding creatures only served to prove that once again, my gut feeling was eerily right.

"Oh no..." I murmured to myself, still seated while everybody sprang up as though they were ready for action. With memories of the fog monsters still fresh on my mind, I was not ready to face more monsters - again.

I was in a daze for a good moment before I realized that Aria was asking if I was ok.

"I&;m fine, considering the dire situation at the moment." I answered my bodyguard without sarcasm. My hands were suddenly itching for my trusty red parasol. Unfortunately, I didn&;t bring it with me because I was wearing blue to the Seelie court. Damn my unlucky wardrobe choice!

I noticed that everybody had taken up arms except for me. I had no weapons. Not the right kind anyway. I felt my adrenaline start pumping through my veins as the atmosphere became incredibly tense - it felt like the calm before a storm.

"What can I do?" The words spilled from my mouth before I even realized what I said.

Aria looked at me solemnly and then nodded to herself as though she just found the answer. "Support us. Be our lookout. We need eyes on the back of our heads during times like these and you&;re the next best thing."

I nodded silently and made my way outside of the elephant to join the others. My eyes met Brynna&;s for a brief moment (did I see a flash of guilt?) before I turned my attention to our attackers. The sight of the creatures were more frightening than I had imagined. All of a sudden, I was glad that I wasn&;t facing these monsters alone.

[quote=Vixen] Struggling with aiming the mirror through the window Vixen decided to join the others rooftop. There she was able to reflect their magic weapons with much more ease and accuracy. The vehicle, which she had named the Mad Hatter, was rocking back and forth making it difficult to stand. She worried someone would slide off in the chaos.

She stretched to reach a green fireball and losing her balance she fell face down onto the porcelain surface of the teapot. Her tophat went tumbling into the nothingness that was below her. Pain shot through her mouth and she wondered for a second if she broke a tooth. Not having long to ponder this she felt herself beginning to slide downwards.

Panic began to set in and she thought to herself that this was one odd way to go out. She wondered if she could land on one of those skeleton dudes, knock him off and take over his bone bike. Of course thi

The Nightowls defend L'elephant! Part 2 of 2

Quote by Mal
Mal began digging around her pockets and asked her companions to empty theirs out as well. Not much was found but she did have a decent amount of rope between them all. She quickly knotted it together.

“Alright Wash, you with me?”

The big bird flapped his feathers. She threw the end of the rope into the air and in one smooth motion he leapt from her forearm, into the air, and caught it in his talons.

The carriage was going this way and that and Mal leaned her top half out of the window. She held the rope tightly in her hands. Wash skillfully and quickly flew right at one of the elven archers who took aim at him and fired. He turned quickly to the left and flew as hard as he could. The archer hit the rope right in his midsection and his arms flew up as the glider kept going forward but he didn’t. He fell to the ground unconscious. Mal whooped in happiness.

“Good job, Wash!”

The bird flew back to her. She knew the other two would be wary now so this time when Wash flew out he didn’t even try to be sneaky. He flew circles around the other archer, tangling his bow against his body. An arrow let loose and hit the third archer’s vehicle which began to wobble in the air. It began shifting right so Wash headed towards it. He couldn’t get too close though. Mal pulled out her other contraption. It was fairly simple and wasn’t very powerful but in the right circumstance it could be just enough. It only consisted of three parts, a coil of wire, a charging circuit from a camera she’d found at the inn and a bit of metal for a switch.

As the the second rider was tangled up and being pulled slowly towards the third rider Wash had to bail, the arrows were too close. The third rider’s glider was sparking where the arrow had hit it but it was still too far away from the second one to hit it like she’d hoped.
Mal took a deep breath.

“Here goes nothing.”

She leaned out as far as possible and pointed her little EMP at the glider. She flipped the switch on it and heard a loud buzz. Thank god she was wearing gloves! Both of the glider’s wobble increased and they went up and down violently, turning even more sharply. They collided in midair, both of the riders crashing and their vehicles began to go down. Mal quickly dropped the rope as they were left behind in the dust.

“Alright!” She yelled, “Whoo!”

Quote by The Prof
I do not know when the steady &;THWOCK!&; ITHWOCK&; of Brynna&;s crossbow entered my awareness, but the sound set the rhythm of the battle. But the disarmed skeletons began to fall to her skill.

For me, my arms and shoulders were a burning agony from wielding my makeshift weapon. I began to rest briefly after each launch of the bullroarer. As I was stopping to seize more breaths one of the skeletons managed to crawl up the side of L&;elephante. Bien sur, it headed direct for the still tidy person of HRH. To think was no time, so I knocked her down away from harm. My good little Gods, why are you determined to make this lady to be always mad at me?

As usual, my good little Gods do not answer me.

Quote by Angelica
After pulling Vixen up to safety (who knew I had such strength!), she unexpectedly gave me a big hug and thanked me before running back into the fray again. Only this time, she was joined by Cali, the mischievous little girl I had come across earlier. I wondered for a moment how the girl was able to deal with a scary situation such as this when I was reminded that these people weren&;t exactly normal. Strange... why do I keep hearing Brynna&;s voice...?

I was rudely jolted from my thoughts as somebody yelled "Watch out!" before they tackled me bodily onto the roof of the coach. A second later, an arrow whizzed through the air where my head had been earlier and flew on harmlessly into the trees. That was close. Too close. I was in a daze as my rescuer helped me up onto my feet.

"Are you alright, chere?"

Hearing the familiar accent, I looked up at the Prof and nodded. It was a few seconds before I found my voice again.

"Yes, I&;m... quite alright. Thank you for-."

"Angelica!"

I was interrupted by Brynna while trying to express my gratitude but the Prof nodded in acknowledgement and turned back to deal with the skeletal warriors before I could thank him properly. A lot of the creatures appeared to have lost their weapons. I wonder how that happened?

"Angelica! Are you ok?!" Brynna made her way towards me and I nodded. She didn&;t look too convinced.

"I&;m fine. Thanks to the Prof." She flinched at that and I realized what I said.

"That&;s not what I-"

"No, you&;re right." She looked so guilty it was starting to make me feel bad. "I&;m sorry, Angelica."

"I think you&;re going to need to be a little more specific." I told her a little stiffly as I looked down at the slightly battered blue umbrella that was still in my hand. I was giving her a hard time and I knew it. But in my defence, she was the one who dragged me into this mess! Not to mention the fact that she also never gave me a proper explanation as to why!

"I&;m really sorry. About everything." Brynna somehow managed to look even more guilty than she already did (which is quite a feat, I must say). I regarded her solemnly for a moment until I noticed something green speeding towards Brynna from behind.

Without even thinking, I knocked Brynna out of the way with the big frilly umbrella in my hands and opened it up. The stray fireball impacted on the fabric with a crackle before it died off with a fizz. The air was suddenly filled with the smell of burnt fabric and chemicals. I coughed and tried to wave the smell away with a free hand. I hope my hair and gown doesn&;t soak it up! The last thing I need is to smell like I&;ve been working in a laboratory.

Quote by Brynna
I pulled the trigger on the crossbow. The bolt flew straight and true, shattering the skeleton&;s skull with a rather satisfying sound. I yelled back over the noise of what was turning into a full on battle, "Angelica!" I saw her turn towards me at the sound of her name. "Look, I&;m sorry!"

Another crossbow bolt to another skeleton, this one slightly off though, so the damn thing survived with just the loss of an arm.

"I dragged you into this mess. I lied to you. And I feel awful for putting you in danger. I swear that was never my intention!"

One of the enchanted elves from the gliders had managed to get past Aria somehow and was heading towards Angelica, though he was slipping a bit on the slick outer surface of our teapot. (I sent a quick mental "thank you" out to The Prof for smearing whatever that cream was that he had concocted and put on the bottom of all of our shoes that gave us traction on the slick porcelain.)

I balled my fist up and let my anger and frustration (and guilt) fuel me. I felt bone crunch underneath my fist as I connected with the elf&;s face. The impact knocked him backwards off of the coach completely and he sprawled in a rather ungraceful heap in the dirt below. I whipped to my left and released another bolt into another skeleton, kicked backwards and felt that I had made firm contact with something that had been trying to climb the sides of the coach and then elbowed another skeleton that had ridden a bit too close to where I stood. I became a whirl of kicks, punches and crossbow bolts. I fell into that strange almost peaceful cadence of battle where everything becomes still and quiet in my head and my body simply flows through the motions as if this is what it was made for. I&;ve been told that not everyone experiences this and for a while, I fought against it. But once I gave into it all those years ago, I found that I was much more effective and took fewer wounds. Unfortunate side effect though...anything that happens during this time is kind of blurry at best and conversations may as well not have happened. The Quiet (as I call it) ended as I headbutted another enchanted elf and found that we were in a pocket of calm.

I heard Angelica&;s voice and looked over to see her dusting herself off and The Prof standing next to her...apparently after performing a diving save. Chagrined, I looked over at her. "Angelica! Are you ok?!"

"I&;m fine. Thanks to the Prof." Angelica replied. I flinched at the implications of the statement.

"That&;s not what I-" Angelica began.

"No, you&;re right." I replied, "I&;m sorry, Angelica."

"I think you&;re going to need to be a little more specific." She said rather stiffly

"I&;m really sorry. About everything." I started.

Next thing I know, Angelica is tackling me and her poofy umbrella is being fried by a green ball of ick! I hopped back up to my feet and before I could stop myself, I was poking Angelica in the chest with my finger and yelling at her.

"Look here missy! I&;m the one who is supposed to be saving your bacon not the other way around! Where do you get off going all hero and making me feel even worse than I already do for dragging your ass into this hot mess? Don&;t make me throw you over my shoulder and plunk you back inside this coach like a petulant child! Dammit woman! You infuriate me!"

I was in a full roar now and there was no stopping me. The words kept pouring out and I kept poking her and making her inch backwards.

"I wasn&;t there last time. I know it. You know it. EVERYBODY knows it. It haunts me every single day. I relive it every night. I see you standing there all perfect and pretty and innocent and helpless and then I see that thing snatch you up and carry you away. I couldn&;t get to you in time! Don&;t you get it?! I couldn&;t stop the line from breaking. I did everything I could to hold them all off. But once the line broke and their beasts got through, I damn near killed my horse and myself to get back to where you were supposed to be hiding and safe.

But nooooooooo! Little Princess that you are just had to see the fighting! So you left the saferoom. And I watched you DIE! Why couldn&;t you just stay where you were safe?!"

Tears ran down my cheeks at this point and I could see the look of confusion on Angelica&;s face (along with a fair amount of fear). I reigned myself in as best I could.

"Not gonna happen again little sister." I said quietly. "I mean, Angelica." I dashed the last remaining tears from my face and steadied myself.

"Look. I was in a very dark, very bad place when I first stumbled upon the Wayward Squirrel and all of its quirks and inhabitants. They needed some muscle and some help, which I was happy to provide since all I wanted at that point was to hit as many things as hard as I could. But, you see...they saved me. They gave me something good and real to fight for. So when I got the call that they needed help now, I couldn&;t say no. But you are so much like her and I couldn&;t just abandon you either. So I lied and I dragged you along. And now I&;ve let you down too."

I was completely astonished when Brynna exploded at me out of absolutely nowhere. One moment, I was saving her life and the next, she’s poking her finger into my chest while yelling at me. What did I do to deserve this?

I could do nothing but stare at Brynna in a mix of confusion at what she was going on about and fear that she had gone off the deep end.

“Brynna, I-“ I tried to get a sentence across but to no avail.

Brynna was in full swing. I wasn’t going to be able to get a word in until she stops her tirade. What did she mean she wasn’t there last time? And I died? When? This was all very confusing and scary. My bodyguard has definitely lost her mind. My strong bodyguard – who was so dependable until this ‘Protectors’ thing happened – was crying in front of me. I completely froze when Brynna called me her little sister before correcting herself. What in the name of…?

It took me a while to finally realize that Brynna wasn’t referring to me. It wasn’t me who had died. The realization that Brynna was referring to her sister’s death hit me like a rock. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. Any resentment that I had for her dissolved into something I couldn’t quite name. Sadness…? A little. Compassion, perhaps? Most likely.

I had been planning for ages on how exactly I was going to make Brynna suffer for making me endure all this. I even made a list of things I was going to say to make her feel guilty and regret getting me involved in something I wasn’t even aware of. I didn’t have the heart to say any of those things anymore. Now, it was my turn to feel guilty for wanting to make her pay when she had already gone through so much pain and suffering. She never spoke much to me about her family before (and I was perfectly fine with it), but now I know why.

“Look, Brynna…” I started, trying to find the right words to say. I was at a loss for words and that did not happen often.

“I forgive you.” I looked in her eyes steadily to make sure she knew I was being genuine. “And I’m not angry. There’s a lot I need to talk to you about but,” I gestured to the chaos around us to make my point, “that will have to be for another time. For now, there’s other people you need to save. And a battle we need to win if you want to keep me alive.”

"You&;re right. We&;ll talk when this is over." Brynna sniffed as she began to composed herself. She did it rather well considering the severity of her outburst. "Stay safe, ok?"

I nodded and watched as she turned and stalked away to deftly finish off the rest of the skeletal warriors she and the Prof had been dealing with earlier. Looking around, it seems the battle is almost over. There were only a fraction of the enemies still standing and they won&;t last much longer from the looks of it. Thankfully, it appears no one had gotten injured too badly.

Quote by Vixen
Listening to Cali made her smile widely. It was odd but she could not imagine being anywhere else and having as much fun. Well, unless you included skull collecting. Vixen began to dance to the beat of Calis song. She joined her in a slightly screeching voice and changing the words slightly. "Oh what a lovely nut I am" She sang giggling.

As they danced and sang things began to slow down. The wizards became fewer and far between until there were none. They plopped down on the cold porcelain in relief and she hugged Cali. "Way to go Girl!" she said happily. "We made those wizards dance around for sure" she giggled.

"Did you see that one who tried to run away and smacked right into one of those skeletons on bikes?" she asked her. "There were bones flying everywhere!" she giggled. "It was a bonederstorm...a bonado!...a ... wow, I&;m hungry. Let&;s go find some food!"

[quote=Aria]Aria looked around at her crew mates and realized that they were all taking down a lot of their enemies through the sum of their efforts. Upon noticing this, she realized that nobody had taken to protecting their carriage. After seeing that Mal was able to kill off many of the possessed archers and death gliders, Aria set out to defend the carriage a bit more.

Taking a more defensible position she scanned for incoming arrows or other weapons and began to strike them out of the air before they could hit the carriage. Dax started warning Aria of incoming arrows and their flight path through mental images. Aria was careful to avoid being hit by any of the green glowing orbs as she couldn’t do anything to deflect them.

After continually shooting arrows to deflect incoming attacks, Aria reached down to her quill and realized that she was out of arrows. ‘I could throw daggers but I would run out of them after only a handful of hits,’ Aria mind spoke to Dax.

‘What about we use our telepathy together to create a sort of false image in the minds of our enemies,” Dax suggested.

Aria looked towards Dax and thought for a moment before replying, ‘It is very dangerous, we've never practiced that before, but it’s the only thing we can do right now, we might as well try.’ Dax and Aria took a position on one of the blue couches in the corner of the carriage and began to hone in on their natural mind frequencies.

Dax was much more adept at using his telepathy than Aria was, so she allowed Dax to use her power and lead the

Fallen Angels get ready to rumble
Fallen Angels get ready to rumble

After a hasty introduction Niva quickly told them of the crisis at hand. "Well isn't that just shiny! Not only do we have a long trek back to the Borderlands but we are going to have to battle our way through Unseelie forces!" Atrueheart exclaims exasperated. Laurie's shy and curious nature began to take on a distasteful sense of suspicion. How did they find out we're here!? she thought to herself, her hand instantly touching the pen strapped to her upper arm that Calie had given her back at the crossroads. Talli shivered ever so slightly. Calie moved a little closer to her, acknowledging that her skin started to crawl also. Knowing Calie and Talli are incredibly in-tune with nature, Laurie and Jeice exchanged glances. Atrueheart looked around at her team and shakes her head. "Time to unpack our gear, ladies." The Fallen Angels promptly dig into their travel bags for all weapons and armor they can find. Having located everything remotely useful, they were unaware that a new member was in their midst until Atrueheart cleared her throat. "Angels, her Feline Highness, Vibrissa and her companion Grumpus will be traveling with us on this delightful journey. It is our duty to do whatever we must to ensure they survive the trip." Stunned they all stared except for Webby who bowed gracefully. "No time for that," Niva told True, the urgency in her voice unmistakable, "You really must be going." Moving quickly, Atrueheart, Talli and Calie take point, Vibrissa only a few steps behind and Jeice, Laurie and Webby bring up the rear. Calie and Talli already whispering among themselves, debating upon what local ingredients may be used for defense in spells and weapons for the upcoming battle.

Before entering the Seelie forest, the Fallen Angels quietly bid farewell to their Seelie escorts who give one last admonition to beware of the Unseelie forces in the forest. Once clear of any prying ears, Atrueheart raises her hand halting the group, softly addressing the nervous feline and her consort. "I have a plan that will help you blend in with our group and Grumpus will run with our animal companions and blend in well with them." Atrueheart whispers as she motions Talli to join her. "Talli do you have a "masking" spell handy? We need to alter their appearance slightly." Talli pulls out her spell book and pores through it and smiles. Speaking in hushed tones, Talli replied "Oh yes... I have just the spells! Now be still a moment Vibrissa. This won't hurt... much." Closing her eyes Talli begins to chant almost inaudibly and a slight breeze kicks up in the air. Suddenly clapping her hands together and then pointing at Vibrissa, Talli hisses "Done!" The air around Vibrissa shimmers visibly as she begins to transform. Vibrissa's straight yellow fur becomes a shade of grey and her lilac fairie wings disappear. "Noooooooo!" wails Vibrissa scratching at her back where her wings once sat as the others turn startled by the sound. "Shhhhhhh!" Calie and Jeice hiss in unison and poor Vibrissa quells her anguish with a sorrowful moan. "Not my beautiful wings!" she whimpered.". Talli pats her reassuringly and murmurs "Don't worry my dear... it's not permanent. But we must keep you safe!" Talli then turns to Grumpus and whispers one word pointing at him and Grumpus, no longer a cat has become a small miniature dragon! Grumpus meows under his breath in protest. "OOps!" Talli whispered. "The spell only extends so far. You might want to keep quiet if there is any enemy around because dragons don't speak."

Satisfied with their transformations, True signals the group and as quietly as possible the seven of them and their companions make their way into the forest. Once confident they had gone far enough to avoid drawing attention to themselves as well as find what they'll need should they be discovered, she raised her hand bringing the group to a halt. Looking around at her team Atrueheart nods decisively, mouthing the words "Gear up Angels." and removes her crossbow and arrows out of its sheath. Jeice points upward and Torchy takes to the skies keeping watch overhead followed by the recently enchanted Grumpus. With a nod from Talli, Moriel moves to the outside of the group, silently patrolling the parameter. The Fallen Angels, dressed for battle, begin scouring the woods for anything else useful they can find.

"Keep an eye out for these, Angels. Common Rue, Naga Fang, Beetle Juice, White Sand and Batwing," Calie whispers, "and bring them to me if you find any." as she and Talli go through her ingredients bag and pour over Talli's spell books deciding which spells to use. With Geep using his sticky feet to keep her place in the book, Calie begins to throw some ingredients into her mortar and grinds with her pestle, creating individual acorn bombs. Sending Hope to help Jinx and Blue search the forest floor and trees for anything useful, Laurie took a few moments to make sure her special pen wasn't damaged by the spell Termina had cast before they left. To her delight when she clicked it, a glistening mithril blade more dangerous then the original shot silently from it's business end. The surprised warrior grinned and with a low whistle, murmured softly Niiiice, wish it would stay this way when we get back to the Borderlands. Laurie re-strapped the pen securely to her arm and began searching for sturdy shield material. Glancing into a half dug trench, she hissed as loudly as she dared "Hey, Webby, Talli, can we fashion a makeshift whip out of those roots and stuff?" Webby, dressed in what she considered battle gear with a shocking lack of ruffles and lace, joined them as they looked into the trench and nodded. Not wanting to damage the hopefully living sapling it belonged to Talli laid on the ground, carefully extracting a length of the root. Back on her feet, Webby split and twisted the ends tightly as Talli's hands expertly stretched and molded what once was a simple root into a strong, pliable weapon. "Thanks Indiana-bones," Laurie murmured as she wound the leather into a tight lasso. Webby gave Laurie a little nudge before she went back to working on the sling shot she had started to put together a few minutes earlier. Talli smiled, turning toward True as she hears her name called.

Jeice is counting her arrows and twirling her staff, preparing for battle. Atrueheart quietly calls Talli over for a second and asks "What spell do you have to help our arrows?" "That's easy!" Talli whispers, explaining quickly as she cast a duplication spell. "That should cause your arrows to multiply as needed." Glancing toward Laurie who was checking out the stability of a chunk of bark she found on the ground, True continued "What about turning tree bark into a shield?" to which Talli replied, "Resin would work to strengthen the bark to make a wooden shield." Signaling Laurie to bring the bark to them, Talli again worked her magic. As Laurie spins her new shield above her head, the two of them walked back over to Calie, their warriors smile all the thanks they need.

"Looking good Fallen Angels! Those UnSeelie warriors don't know who they are messing with!" Atrueheart states in a low tone. "They definitely won't see this coming!" As a team, the Fallen Angels move deeper into the forest, eyes peeled for any sign of the UnSeelie warriors, hardly noticing that they've come upon a small clearing. Suddenly Moriel gives out a howl that has all the Angels hair standing on end. The dragons in the sky sound a warning trumpet loudly as the trees surrounding them seem come to life, and suddenly they find themselves surrounded on three sides by UnSeelie warriors.

To the left, two rows of skeletal warriors, brandishing swords, axes and even a few maces, astride their own skeletal mounts, maybe more are advancing. To the right, three Dark Wizards grin menacingly, green fireballs dancing around on their hands. Directly in front of Atrueheart and Jeice, a half-dozen pilotless Death Gliders, manned by soulless elven archers firing shatter arrows in rapid succession. Quickly dividing her team Atrueheart sends Laurie and Webby after the skeletal warriors, Calie and Talli after the wizards and Jeice and herself toward the Death Gliders, signaling Vibrissa to stay behind the battle lines protected in the center.

[spoiler=Bones to the left you'll see, Wizards to the right..]

Bones to the left you'll see, Wizards to the right, here we stand, avoiding archers with glee

As the Fallen Angels leap into battle a rain of shatter arrows are launched by the possessed archers on their flying crafts. Torchy quickly flies down and flames as many arrows as he can to keep the Angels from being struck. Grumpus as a disguised miniature dragon hovers above Vibrissa, turning all arrows that head her way to ash with his flame, protecting his Queen.

Ducking behind some trees for shelter Jeice and Atrueheart return fire with their crossbow and bow observing that where a possessed arrow hits a tree or other target it shatters on impact and in return shatters the object at the point of impact. Jeice calls out to Atrueheart "That's gonna hurt if we get hit!" Atrueheart calls back "We are gonna be lucky to get out of this with just a few shattered bones for sure." Atrueheart shoots and misses as a possessed craft swerves at the last second but Jeice next arrow shoots true and one of the flying possessed archers falls dead to the ground. There is something to be said for mythril coated arrows... a true shot results in instant death and not injury. Torchy swoops to the unmanned flying vehicle and nudges it with his body directing it away from the Fallen Angels, crashing it harmlessly to the ground.

Laurie's mind raced, instantly ticking off details she'd learned about skeletons, primitive weapons, mounted soldiers advantage over foot soldiers as well as the location of the rest of the Fallen Angels. Mounts have no defense, furthest reach holds greatest threat, protect the head, behead the dead, movement provides greater target. One hand behind her back she signaled Webby and keeping an expression of fear frozen on her face, let go one of her best "frightened schoolgirl shrieks" she and Webby bolted to the left, as if to flee into the forest. With lightning speed they moved in unison until they had a clear shot at the end of the advancing line of skeletal creatures.

With a sharp SNAP! Laurie's whip unfurled, encircling both legs just above the ankle area of the mount closest to her who's rider just happened to wield a nasty looking mace. Giving the entangled whip a sharp jerk she dropped both mount and rider to the ground in a heap. "Talk about enchanted!" Laurie called out, surprised at the whip's speed and accuracy. SNAP! SNAP! SNAP! The echo of the crackling whip filled the air as she took down one mount after another, aided much in part by the domino effect, moving as little as possible. As if by magic, one or two leg bones seemed to move quickly across the ground and vanish, an act their riders seem unable to comprehend as they struggle to get to their feet.

"Look out!" Talli knocked Calie down as the three Dark Wizards opened fire with their green fireballs. She threw up a quick wind shield, but not before they both had more than a few hairs singed. "Moriel! Guard!" Talli called her companion back from patrolling the woods and pointed toward Vibrissa. She didn't want her wolf getting caught up in the crossfire; it was too dangerous. Calie scrambled to her knees and reached into her pockets with both hands, pulling out various items by the handfuls. "Give me your staff!" she yelled at Talli. Talli looked at her like she was crazy but held it out to her as Calie started frantically rubbing white sand all over it, talking as she worked. "White sand is a thickener for all spells and potions dealing with..." Another blast from the wizards hit their shield and it broke apart into wisps of smoke. Calie gasped as she realized the next hit would be head-on.

"We're not in a classroom Calie!" Talli yelled as she grabbed her staff back and, with a quick muttered spell, she threw her magic at the wizards. A huge blast of icy wind blew the wizards back! Two of them were blown into some bushes but the third crashed into a large tree trunk and slumped unconscious into the underbrush. Talli looked at the wizards, her staff, then Calie. They both grinned.

As the possessed archers home in on Atrueheart and Jeice's position, bark begins to shatter and fly off the trees they are hiding behind. Jeice signals to Atrueheart to change positions as the next arrow that hits her tree she is using for cover explodes into slivers. Dodging arrows Atrueheart swiftly runs toward a fallen tree and dives behind it, returning fire. A flying craft crashes down to the ground where she had been only seconds before ducking behind the tree. Looking back she sees Jeice giving her the thumbs up as she shouts "Good thing I was covering you True! That one was sneaking up on you." Jinx, clinging to Atruehearts leg, chitters his approval and Atrueheart sends him out to gather fallen arrows with the instructions to return with them to Jeice and to return any fallen arrows of hers to her. "Two can play at this game of shatter arrows!" she thinks. Catching Atruehearts strategy change, Jeice grabs one of the shatter arrows from Jinx and lets it fly hitting the possessed' flyer ruining the possessed archer's aim, followed quickly by one of her mythril covered arrows shot straight into the flailing archer's chest. "Scratch three!" she yells out exuberantly to Atrueheart. "You better start catching up there True!" Atrueheart smirks at Jeice and let's fly another arrow and brings down a possessed archer. Though not as good an archer as her team's Ranger, she did not take all those archery lessons at the Companions school for nothing! "Scratch four!" she calls out as she and Jeice hone in on the remaining two possessed archers.

The first rider manages to stand, Laurie lowers her shield to protect herself from the strike of its mace as stones fly from Webby's slingshot and connect with the rider, dropping it back into the pile of bones littering the ground. Ignoring the pain from being grazed by shatter arrows, the two of them continue to methodically cripple the mounts, pausing only when its rider manages to regain its footing until all mounts had been rendered useless. Neither noticing that the pain lasted only a few minutes. With the skeleton riders at ground level evening out the battle field Webby rushed forward. The two of them stood fast, the rider's mindless advance slowed by the mounting piles of struggling debris in their paths. Laurie tossed the make-shift whip behind her toward Vibrissa. "In case you need it!" she yelled, reaching for her pen. CLICK! The razor sharp edge of its mythril blade glowing as it locked in place she glanced quickly at Webby and snarled "Let's do this."

Ignoring the occasional tree sliver to their bodies, Jeice and Atrueheart continue to change positions as needed and letting their arrows fly. Atrueheart continuously checking on her other team members monitoring their progress on the other two fronts. Jeice grumbles to herself "Those are slippery little suckers! Hold still like a good little enemy." Letting fly a shatter arrow brought to her by Jinx throwing another flyer off its path, Jeice gives out a loud whoop as Atrueheart nails the Archer riding on top with one of her arrows. "Scratch five!" she yells out.

[color=blue]The two wizards looked murderous as they climbed out of the bushes and started to glow a sickening green. Huge flames burst from their palms as they again started to create the green fireballs.

"Hand me those dried batwings Calie!" Talli called out. When they were handed over she quickly muttered a spel

[spoiler=a fierce fight] The Seelie Court was as much and more glamourous than Venom had expected. Stuffed inside all this fancy dress he at least felt like he looked the part. Still, he found shoes to be terribly uncomfortable and couldn’t keep his mind from wondering when he would be allowed to take them off without offending anyone. Their introductions to the Royal family went about as well as could be expected. Venom couldn’t help but feel slightly sorry for the runaway prince. He knew how it felt to live a life according to others rules, but that wasn’t to say the prince's situation was equal to his own. Venom blessedly hadn’t ever been in line for any throne. Hopefully the team would be successful with their mission, that is to say hopefully the Fellowship would manage to find the kid in time.

Wolf felt simply at home in the courts of magic and mystic. She was happy and thrilled with being surrounded with such ethereal beauty...until she felt a pair of furry arms around her waist. She looked down, surprised as to what could be hugging her and there was a cat hugging her. "...a...CAT?!?" she thought with a look on her face of complete bewilderment and just a hint of disgust. "The indignity of it all! I'm being hugged by a...a..." She looked down again and noticed the fur colour and wings. Her bewilderment turned into a mixture of both a very sheepish look and happy smile, "Oh, greetings, Vibrissa. It's lovely to see you again, too." Giving the kitty a return hug, being careful not to crush her delicate regalness, and touching her nose lightly to the top of the Queen's head, she smiled warmly as the fabled, fantastical feline released her paws from her furry middle and worked her way over to Wolf's next comrade.

After the lovely, warm greeting from the Queen, she heard the story about the empty heir to the throne and was distressed about the fact that the only one that would keep these realms from being under siege from the nightmarish Unseelies was busy doing his own, foolish thing. "We need to do our best to help him see what's best for him and his people," she thought. "He needs to learn responsibility and maturity. The daughter of Selwyn is sweet, but she's no ruler."
While thinking about the problem, Wolf took some time to look around the courts. The magic of the place gave her a special energy. It was warming her to her very soul. The smile didn't leave her face as she tasted the the delicious fae treats and specialties.

Flame would be bounding all over the place, but this time Mommy was a step ahead of her rambunctious little furball. She had conjured an invisible harness and leash for her so that she stayed under control and not to cause chaos. She smiled at how happy Flame was as she sniffed and pounced and played and frolicked. Sierra was doing what she did best - riding along on Wolf's shoulder, jaw dropped in utter amazement as she tried to take all of everything in.

They entered the gardens just outside the party room for a bit of fresh air and to re-energize with the magic of nature as well.

Quercus felt intense relief while in the Seelie court. The woods were a welcome reminder of home as well as what she was fighting for. Tipper was just as thrilled, and raced through the trees, enjoying the feeling of fresh air and fewer machines. Quercus felt the same pull and as soon as it was polite she turned to Spring. "How about we do that restocking we need to do? I'm sure we can find a few new items here too."

In the Seelie Court, everything seemed to glow like golden memories remembered warmly. The forest seemed to beckon and it was hard to not just let herself wander out and soak in some of the sights and smells of the forest Spring had always loved. While she was daydreaming of all the happy times she'd spent out in the fields and forest, when it was peaceful and safe, she felt Quercus nudge her back to reality.

"Oh! Yes. Good idea, Quercus. Plus, a little time out wandering won't hurt before things get intense again. And Selawick has been pestering me to let him scurry for a while anyway. Shall we slip out now?"

Out in the forest, Spring and Quercus gathered up what supplies for healing that they could. Comfry for healing bones. Clay and plantain leaf to help draw out poisons. A few berries and other healing substances for creating poultices and syrups.

Spring was filling a pouch she kept as she walked with smooth, round stones for her sling. While she was most comfortable with bow and arrows, it never hurt to have a few extra skills and supplies to face the foes ahead. And she wasn't half bad at hitting the mark with her sling, thanks to another Ranger she had wandered with who had shared his skill with her.

"It's been a long time since I've done this, Quercus. But I think we need to consider all possibilities and gather some ingredients we can use to defend ourselves. When I lived with a tribe for a while, they taught me to use Crowfoot and Golden Poppy to make a poison for arrows. Shall we make some up just in case we meet with more trouble on our way out and need the upper hand? Is there anything else we could use to our advantage?" Spring trusted Quercus' knowledge of both the territory and the foes to know the best poison to pick.

Selawick squeaked and scurried around through the leaves and sticks. He ran back a few times with treasures of his own: a few glittering rocks of his own and some of his favorite seeds and berries. He and Tipper seemed to be letting any stress that they may have felt from the journey out with a good romp. Quercus and Spring laughed at their antics and couldn't help but feel a lot better themselves.

"This is what I've missed!" Spring sighed as they plopped down under a weeping willow. Quercus nodded.

"What do you think we will be meeting out there?" Spring waved a hand in the general direction of the path that would take them out of the Seelie Courts. "Do you think we are ready?"

Quercus considered Spring's idea as she looked at the woods beyond and felt a chill. Something was wrong, she could feel it. But her senses couldn't tell if it was the threat getting worse because the balance remained off... or if something more was happening in the woods. "I think we need to be prepared for anything. We'll make poisons to tip our arrows." She smiled suddenly. "But that is not the only way to use plants. I know some mixes for healing which will create a burning sensation when they touch dark magic. It won't kill the user but it will certainly give them trouble focusing." She gathered together all the items she had. "How about we return to the court and get to work? I'd rather get this lot ready now in case we need something else than find out too late we are missing something when we must leave. Besides, we can come up with some other surprises I'm sure with these." She held out an arm full of harvested herbs and flowers.

The next day came far too quickly for Quercus. She dressed quickly and bound her longer hair up. "Darn all this magic!" she hissed. "It's making my hair and vines grow out of control and there's no time to cut it!" She sighed as she finished tying it back. She could brush it to a point where you struggled to tell the difference between hair and plant but cutting her vines would leave her with a raging headache and there was no time for her to recover right now. She was just glad that her outfit had left her arms free. She tapped her necklace. It crackled in reply. She'd found this bundle of clothes in her pack, a gift from her friends back home. "You know me too well," she sighed. The necklace would offer some protection from spells and blows but nothing serious. Gathering her supplies she rejoined the Fellowship for the journey back.

The fact they had to take a hidden route back didn't surprise her. They were dealing with serious trouble and every precaution was worth it. Still, she felt the oppression of the forest. Unseelie magic, the woods were thick with it. Occasionally she thought she sensed something from the trees. A warning but she couldn't pinpoint it. Nonetheless she kept her bow in her hand and her arrows ready. The seconds she heard the clank of bones and the chill from the woods of the threat, an arrow was knocked to her bow and she took aim. They were surrounded. Not the smartest move guys. An animal is at its most dangerous and unpredictable when cornered, she reflected. The question now was what to do? The magic users would probably view her arrows as annoying but used with Wolf's spells they would cause chaos. The skeletons were out until they got closer. They would need blows to stop. She felt a glow of thanks to Venom for the close combat training he'd given her and hoped her advice on archers would help him fight without hurt from the archers. She thought of her supplies. Maybe a surprise or two carefully harvested from the forest and attached to an arrow would make them pause. Right now though the possessed archers were the biggest issue. There were more of them but possessed they might not be as fast or alert as they normally were. I have to shoot as fast as I can and as accurately as I can. I can give the magic users and archers something to think about. That will give Wolf and Venom time to do some damage. She scanned again, running through her choices. Whatever we do, we're going to take a beating. Tipper growled at her side as Quercus let out a sigh and felt the mix of calm and irritation burry her fear. She'd faced worst than this but that didn't mean they were going to get away without a few broken bones. Still, with so many archers I'm unlikely to run out of arrows. "I've got some powders and potions that might work on our magic users but I'm going to focus on the long ranged and mages to start with if I can. Anyone got a plan before a put a bolt into this lot?" she growled, drawing the arrow back as she spoke.

The journey on the hidden route was tense. Each member of the fellowship was on edge for any sign or any hint of ambush. The air was thick with the feel of danger, and each twig break seemed like a clap of thunder.

Like Quercus, Spring kept her bow in one hand. The other hand she kept up near the quiver with her arrows. They had a

plan. Jean and Venom had gone over combat tactics with the group. Wolf had been preparing her strongest magic and spells to fight with. Quercus was a good shot with her bow--the best shot out there! Spring knew she could count on her. And the poison for the arrows? Spring knew that it was powerful. It would do its work.

Then it happened. Everyone tensed as the Unseelies poured from the forest to surround them on three sides. This was it. Spring took a step back to get into position to help cover Jean and Venom's attacks and keep Wolf from being disturbed as she worked her magic.

With the knowledge of Unseelies in the area, the forest was no joy to Wolf. It seemed darker, the smell danker and more musty. Flame was much different that Wolf had ever seen her. She sensed that there was something wasn't right. Instead of cowering, however, she became alert, ears pricked forward, serious and quite still. Wolf never imagined a change could come to her baby so quickly. Then she saw and heard something that chilled her to her soul. The sounds of bones knocking together and the clank of weapons. The sound of air wooshing above their heads and the sight of dark wizards with evil, poison-green balls of energy in their hands. Sliding over to Ven, she snuggled against him, taking courage and comfort from the warrior's strength. She looked at her friends. What now?

Hand never far from his sword Venom’s grip tightened around the glossy hilt as a chill ran up his spine. Something out there was beginning to stink and it didn’t take long to discover the origin of the foul stench. Maybe it was their dark energy, maybe not all the meat had fallen from the emerging skeleton’s bones, but something was ripe on the forest air. Venom had a good mind to dispatch the unpleasant aroma as quickly as possible. The Fellowship assumed defensive positions with their backs to one another while out of the woods crept the rest of the Unseelie goons.

Surrounded was never a good foot to start out on, but the more time spent lamenting was time wasted. Venom had faith in his team, and this time around they even had another archer to help balance the ranged units. With a smirk and practiced flick of his thumb Venom unsheathed his sword. Black as the night and razor sharp the blade glinted dangerously in the dapple light of the forest. Tightening his grip around the hilt Venom crouched and turning his blade just so, scoffed at the skeletons and their armament of choice. “Weapons don’t make the warriors boys.” His long pointed ears pressed back and his smirk widened into a terrifyingly toothy grin. “Make your peace, your second chance is soon to expire.”

It was unclear if the skeleton warriors could hear his taunts, but the dark wizards surely didn’t seem very fond of what Venom had to say. Squinting toward the green flames Venom’s skin began to crawl. An army of the dead was one thing, but when confronted with new poisons he hadn’t yet encountered, well the notion was both exhilarating and terrifying. How could he study a poisonous flame if its conjurer was slain? More importantly, could he obtain any without putting his team at risk? Perhaps he would find something on the mage’s person afterwards that would satisfy his curiosity.

His gaze darting between the enemies on the ground and the airborne elven archers above, Ven’s right arm tingled slightly but he barely had time to acknowledge the twinge. Last season Quercus had had the time to teach him a bit about combating ranged units, but he was still not as confident about it as he would let on. Thankfully he felt confident in relying on his team to make up for his shortcomings. In return he would do his part to make up for theirs.

Jean tensed at the ambush, a scowl creasing her forehead. "Right, guys, make sure you're keeping each other covered," she advised, drawing her long knife in one hand and looking at the enemies arrayed against them. "Those skeletons will be easier to take on if they're on foot. I've encountered some in my adventures -- solid blows are best, to shatter their bones. If you take out the legs, they have trouble moving. Take out the arms, and it's harder for them to attack. Crush the skull, and that's it, but it's harder to break successfully than the appendages. Those gliders won't be half so effective with torn wings, so we need to take them out of the sky. As for general tactics, well...what we really need is a way to break them up into manageable groups. I have some flashbangs, which might buy us a little time, but some sort of binding or slowing would be best, to hold most of them up until we can get to them." Jean fingered the round balls in her pouch, ready to hurl one down to blind the archers. After all, you needed to see your target to hit it properly.

"Those wizards seem quite deadly. I'll take them on, but I'm not sure I can take them all out," Wolf said, thinking about her leg. "My leg works some, but more as a support than actual working use. I can probably do enough damage to take them out of the fight temporarily, however. Here!" Quickly muttering a spell, she cast it upon her friends. "This will help your defense."

"Close your eyes!" Jean warned, hurling the small explosive down at the ground hard. A blinding flash and a loud BANG! followed. She hoped most of the archers had been looking in their direction, and indeed, the first volley of arrows seemed poorly aimed. That wouldn't last long but it would give her friends a small edge for now.

Drawing in a deep breath as he shut his eyes for Jean's flashbang, on the exhale Venom sprang toward the closest of the skeletal mounts. Swords were generally not made for cutting bones, but Venom had a few things in mind. Twisting in midair he sunk his full weight into a smashing jab with the butt of his sword hilt. The blow connected with one of the skeletal mounts necks ringing with a satisfying bone shattering crunch. Bone fragments flew into the air while Venom flew
