omg great, thanks so much! I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Coffee would be adorable, considering how well book stores and coffee go together <3
There is definitely a fair chunk of books that Alexander doesn't ask for. Looking through the books, there are a fair few that I can't recall having been asked for lately, and the user prices suggest that there's no demand for them despite their rarity. There was some messing about with the item pool for library quests over a year ago (he was only asking for common or lower rarity books, making the user price of normals crash); presumably some things were overlooked during that.
Bringing in coffee items might not bee too bad; it's be great to give Get Mugged items a boost.
Coffee sounds good! Maybe stationery items too? Stuff like paper and pens might fit.
His quests are expensive but he easily gives the best rewards, imo. I spend up to 75k on his quests and have no problem getting a chunk of sP and plethora of super rares in return. I wouldn't mind the items he asks for being expanded necessarily - but you're going to have the knock on effect of super rares flooding the market and shooting the prices down. It's a balance, and swinging it too far in the other way is going to mean his rewards are going to have to be adjusted in some way.
I'd love to give Get Mugged a reason to exist again, and after all, what's better on a rainy afternoon than a book and a cup of tea and/or coffee? 8D
I saw this staff post and instantly smiled. :D I would love to see Get Mugged items added to the Library Quest pool. There's a coffeehouse in practically every big bookstore that's still around, so it totally works with the theme too.
I've noticed along with the others who have posted here that some books aren't currently requested by Alex. I don't think the books from the Atebus shop are requested at all (I thought that might be because of the earlier plans Keith mentioned about removing that shop but not sure). I think a few others may be missing as well (has anyone seen Alex request From Num-Num to Electrician in 508 Easy Steps, Sharks in a Park, Fur Dos....and Donts., the CDs or music sheets from the music shop, or Caffeine is your Friend lately?). Would it be possible to add any of them into the rotation as well please?
Yikes I'm at the first page and is already in agreement. :(
I think the prices of books are reasonable and a rational response to the benefits of this quest. I mildly disagree with the expanded books suggestion those books were omitted on purpose due to complaints just like this one-it creates a pool of at-least-I-can-afford-these-at-all for petreading books. And I strongly disagree with expanding beyond books.
I agree with . Alexander, when he does create a do-able quest, gives out NICE things. If they sell (and sometimes they just don't, but if they do) his quest is still worth doing even if you only get to do half of them and the rewards are then the same or better as if you'd have done all fifteen. Users who are careful with risks and who rather like their sP may choose to spend more than the cap-amount that some other users here have mentioned.
Num-Num to Electrician and Fur Dos and Donts are asked for on a near-daily basis, for me. PLEASE no more of those in the rotation! LOL
Awesome point about the Atebus books, I don't remember seeing any of them in the rotation in a while. But yeah, there are so many commons and normals even in just the regular bookshop that don't ever get asked for. When's the last time anyone got asked for a Fuzzy Kumos Journal?
So it's just me then with those ones. Good to know they're being requested. :) I think I've seen Fur Dos and Donts pop up (still can't remember for sure if I've actually had it come up lately though) but haven't seen Num Num in forever. I used to restock the daylights out of that book for Library Quests. :P
You're right! I haven't been asked for any of the fuzzy journals in the longest time. Same with the notebooks now that I think about it. I used to have Love Notebooks hoarded like crazy too until the bottom fell out on them so long ago now. I'd love for all of these to be added back in if they can be.
For any of those curious, Alexander can ask for any book that is <= r70. So he can ask for books from basically any shop that has books at or below r70.
Payouts are generally based on what is being asked for, so if he asks for some higher rarity coffee items then yeah you'll still get a nice chunk of sP. It'd essentially be the same as giving him a good book vs a common one. So I don't see why it's such an issue bringing in more things?
(I'm totally willing to discuss this before doing anything, so please! Talk it out. Bring up other quests. I'M HERE TO LISTEN)
Has he always been able to or is this a new change? Because there are books he simply does not ask for and I do Library faithfully every day. Stuff like the textbooks and the pop out books he never asks for, and he's never once asked for some of the newer books that have been added to Book Nook. I've always thought it was odd how picky he was with books he asked for lol
It's well and good being able to pick and choose which ones are better than others; I've always been fine quitting a quest for Alex here and there, because I know the profit is worth it. It's when almost every book he asks for is 70k and up and not worth doing that it becomes a problem, and that's how it feels lately. Or to be more precise, I think that Alex's pool of items is a lot smaller than that of other quests, thus increasing the demand for those items a little too much.
I love the idea of coffee items, or bookmarks, being asked for. They are things that most people kind of associate with one another and it gives the quests a fun little variety instead of HERE ALEX HAVE ANOTHER BOOK THAT YOU HAVE 10,000 OF ON YOUR SHELVES ALREADY!
I was actually going to suggest stationery items too but beat me to it. I personally wouldn't mind lowering the rarity of items he gives out in exchange for a wider item pool. I quest for the sP, I don't pay any attention to what sells if or when, from my shop so unless I get an item from my WL I don't really care about getting it.
As far as expanding the Libary pool of acceptable items just for the fun of it, nowadays students read electronic textbooks or have online study aids and tutorials, so Bits and Bytes could reasonably fit into Alexander's get-books-to-kids mission. Melman made computers out of toys (?) for years, so he could make Speak and Says for Alexander (because Bits and Bites stuff is so antiquated). Maybe Alexander has him come in every month or so from his retirement at his lush private tropical island full of gorgeous fangirls who are into furries.
I have to agree with Hiccup that Alexander does tend to ask for a handful of the same books over and over. I do his quests daily because of the nice item rewards and after a while, it becomes apparent that he's asking for the same few books. I got asked for the same book 4 times one day.
Someone in the SB suggested last night that computers/bits and bytes stuff would be a good one to ask for from Alexander. I'm all for getting some of these shops into the pool for other quest givers too (like if you guys have suggestions for more than just Alexander). :)
Well, if you're taking suggestions for Major Drills as well, I'd like to suggest that he ask us to play something besides Spectrail and Leviathan Harpooning being that there are more arcade games now.
I can def look into adding more things for you guys to do for Drills. :)
Thanks. Some days he gets a jonesing for a certain activity and before you know it, you've used up all your plays for the day and can't finish a quest.
If we're talking about Drills too, is there a possibility of taking slots out of his things to ask or at least changing it up? It's very frustrating when he asks us to get 3k from slots when it takes 30+ spins to get 300 sP lol I've given up doing them because I've had upwards of 30 minutes spent trying to get sP out of it lol
I do like the idea of other games! Personally I don't touch Leviathan quests he asks for because I'm bad at it lol but I enjoy Spectrail a lot!
Here are some off-the-top-of-my-head ideas for adding orphan shops to quests:
maybe Carl isn't just a drunken wastrel that Babette threw out but has encountered Aliens and this made him unstable. He refuses to believe the extra-subetan origin of the goddesses and us users. He'd want Atebus items to make his own Close Encounters-style Devil's Postpile.
If Maleria can want weaponry to further her nefarious plots, maybe she needs zombie foods from Lost Skeleton and Half Baked to feed her evil armies. It isn't that they themselves are any more percentage Unliving than the usual Subetan population. It just is what she'd feed them..'cause she's Evil.
Nori could be taking herbal medications prescribed to her by Emma, but those herbs later give the munchies to Mori so they pull from Spells Galore and/or Get Mugged.
