I'll definitely have to check out joining a temp agency, I never really knew that much about them before. I think that's probably going to be my best bet as of now since I can try out jobs and see what I end up liking best. Thank you for the info and for the luck! c:

, if you have any questions about them, feel free to ask. I just wrapped up my time with two separate ones after landing a new full-time gig. They're crazy helpful if you're either trying to find what you want or are between jobs!

I did want to ask, does it cost anything to join them, or..? That's awesome, congrats! c: The main worry I have now is actually getting out there and doing it x)

It's rare that a temp agency will charge you to sign on with them. Their business model relies on companies that draft a contract with them and pay a chunk of money to continue getting reliable temps when they need it. So temp agencies, depending on how busy they are or how many businesses hire them, need a robust roster of folks to move.

If one does request a fee from you, I would SEVERELY encourage you NOT to sign on with them. The employer is supposed to cover that cost, not you. This happening is usually to prey on the clueless or the desperate and sets a really bad precedent for what working under that agency is gonna be like.

Also, a lot of agencies have specializations, so you could focus on finding one that temps clerical jobs. The ones I worked with focused on medical, office and legal temp, for instance.

Ah wow, I never knew that, I'll be sure to be careful in the future and do my research! Thank you again so much for the info, I was totally clueless about them before now, but they really do seem like a good way to go so long as you're careful c:

Absolutely! Don't be afraid to do research before stepping into these places. You can also shoot them emails and ask what their process is to getting registered with them, if calling or actually walking into the office seems intimidating. Just be prepared for them to tell you that, yeah, they do need that phone call or actual visit!

Also, depending on where they want to place you or sometimes to get it out of the way as a catch-all, you'll probably have to do some tests. Typing speed and accuracy tests, ten key test, basic spelling/math tests are common. There's also the vague chance for drug screening or fingerprints if the place they want to send you to requires it (drug or smoke free workplaces/campuses or govt/federal jobs, for instance.) That's not nearly as common and might not happen at all until a place that would need that kind of screening wants to take you on full-time, but it's always good to have it in mind. I got surprised once by a job aksing me to pee in a cup when I didn't think that'd be a requirement, so it's good to at least be remotely prepared for it.

That's the one thing I'm worried about, haha! I think I might be able to go in for a visit though if I find out enough about the process. Don't know what it is with me, but it's easier face to face than on the phone.

Ahh, I can understand that, thankfully I don't have to really worry about those tests being an issue for me. Good to know though, that way if it does happen it won't catch me totally off guard. c:

Keep us posted if/when you find a job or have more questions, okay? Finding a job is hard enough without these sorts of problems. (Of which I commiserate; I avoid jobs involving excessive phone calls cuz that's my one big social stress.)

Once again, good luck!
