This is an achievement for attending a meetup, so at the pace we can have them (and the staff comfortable having them) is the pace that we can give the achievement out.

I'm happy to host a few more of them, but unfortunately for liability reasons it turned out to not really be something we could do a lot of. Maybe I'll add a poll of what conventions people typically attend and try to get us a booth at those, as well!

This is on our plate (and there are rumblings of staff meetups still being discussed) but isn't a priority.

( it'd be so fun to have one at ringcon!)

I've been meaning to do another Disneyland one for a while! and I are talking about doing one soon.

Also the reason we slowed down on them (and didn't let MMs or regular users host them) is we had a few conflicts at them that required staff to resolve (and only because we could say "You can't come to another meetup or we will ban your account on Subeta due to your behavior") and made it very clear this was a thing we couldn't put in other users hands without taking a huge risk.

That's why we met up outside of Disneyland in the Downtown Disney area. :)

To be perfectly honest, if I was going to spend money on a ticket to go to a con I wouldn&;t want to hang out at Subeta&;s booth for an hour just for an achievement.

People come to hang out with other Subeta users, that's the whole point of hosting meetups. I don't think anyone has come to one that I've run, added themselves to the list of people who need the achievement, and immediately left. You hung around for way more than an hour at the one in London, I think!

In my experience (and I was just at PAX in Boston, one of the biggest conventions of the year) I really enjoy going to the booths for small/indie games that I enjoy (which is the same small section that Subeta would be in) and chatting about them.

FWIW I love hosting meetups and would love to host a few more this summer - but they'd all be repeats of ones that have already had them (Seattle and Vancouver and possibly Portland) because we don't have any trips planned this summer to anywhere lot very local. So there IS that possibility, but that does tend to bring a lot of "Omg there's already been one in Seattle etc" grumbling - though I'd still very much like to and do plan on doing so :) I find meetups really enjoyable and I've met some really, really awesome people at them!

Also, I know it's been mentioned before, but I think I've hosted/been to the most meetups out of staffers so far (I want to say five? I think five! I might be second to Keith at this point) and at two of them there were situations that needed to be defused in an official manner, either at the meetup or afterwards. This is what makes it really hard to have users alone host them, at least on an official scale. It really, really sucks, and I wish it hadn't turned into a "few bad apples spoil the bunch" situation, but as staff we are much more able to control a situation like that!

That being said however, both and I do enjoy them and try to host them when we're on trips that don't require us being busy literally every day - like when we were in Portland for a concert or New York to visit . While we're not planning any major trips for -this- year (yet), we are planning trips to a few places in the nearish future (Utah looks like our next big one!) and we are always happy to host meetups when there is interest (and time!)

[edit] As far as cons go - in my experience, it seems most con panels tend to last 45-60 minutes? I haven't been to one for a while, but I feel like attending a Subeta meetup for a set time during a con wouldn't be really any different than planning in a few panels you wanted to go to! It's a very similar idea, so if you wanted the achievement, you'd just have to plan it in appropriately :)
