I'm not sure how easy it is to code, but could you perhaps add a limit to the stack number for items in the shops?
I've noticed that there are items in All That Glitters and other shops with crazy amounts stocked after this change: Rose Quartz Toe Ring 35,447 sP 51 in stock
Fire Charm 2,106 sP 115 in stock
Just doesn't seem good for the system to allow this to happen because it'll tank the item price + it makes it quite obvious which items are more expensive/rarer.
Whoops, that wasn't supposed to happen. Just cleared the shops and pushed a change for that :)

This is exciting! I have a feeling this is going to be great in the long run (with a few bumps in the road here and there). All the changes seem sensible and will hopefully work to accomplish clearing out some of those unwanted items until they gain some value back.
At the same time, I wonder how it'll affect questing? I don't see any immediate affects but once items do gain their value back to a degree, will the quests rewards shift with the item values? (I have no idea how the quest model is set up regarding item prices and sP rewarding, I admit)
You're doing a great job Keith, thanks for all the effort!
1 - Ah, I see now. I must have misread or misunderstood about how the shops are chosen (will be chosen) for restocking. Also, 4 minutes was merely an example. 2 - I'm thinking about the newer items more than anything. For instance, was only released a couple of months ago and the less than a month ago, but these as well as other 'newer' items probably won't be purchased from the main shops for a while. Also, I've noticed that items, that are just recolors of each other or that are in a series, are generally retired together as a group. If a couple of items in a series are appearing often in the 'potential retirements' feedback, it may cause them all to be retired. I'm sure you all have charts and such that allow you to view this sort of information, allowing y'all to make the best judgement calls on retirements. That's why this was the smallest worry of mine. 3 - I'm glad to hear that this has already been recognized and is being watched. The quests seem like something that can be adjusted accordingly, but again, the fragging and recycling are also concerns. Though I guess if some are willing to pay that much for a point or crystal, why not?

I'm not sure what I think about these changes quite yet but am cautiously optimistic. I really like that the adjustments implemented are geared toward stabilizing prices within user shops and increasing the value of currently undervalued items across the board, which should hopefully help to make some of the NPC shops more attractive to restockers as well since some just aren't very profitable right now. I'm always leery of how these changes have the potential to also negatively impact restocking abilities on the site, but this seems like a well crafted plan that's going to be monitored for adjustments as needed so that the restocking experience on the site can be improved. I don't think anyone can ask for more than that right now.
It will be interesting to see how things work out. Must say though that I am more than impressed with many of the changes on the site and how it has been running lately. Some big improvements on here - congrats!
nice to see you'll respond to FLUX, who posted with the exact same thing as me but ~8 hours later, but as a relative unknown to you I don't merit a response :/ Anyhow, nice to see that the issue with the number of stacked items has been resolved :)
I am rely excited for the changes and improvements - thanks so much for this! Seven years is a really long time, so it definitely was time for some updates. :)
I think if the item is an item for Recycle Beast, those items should be restocked more in shops than in user's shops.
I did love it when you took that word we had to type to purchase an item out.

hey there! There were about 4-5 people who mentioned that issue, you and weren't the only ones. As for the 8 hours later part, I know that is in Europe right now. So when you pinged him, it was the middle of the night. When pinged him, it was about noon or so, I guess? It's probably a fair guess to say the he gets hundreds of individual pings a day, so what's more likely is that when he logged on and started responding to stuff, he clicked the most recent direct ping from this topic to get here; rather than it is likely that he ignored you because he doesn't know you :)
I wouldn't take it personally if a staff member doesn't directly ping you to reply that a problem has been fixed, especially if multiple people have reported the same issue. That's why the 'a staff member has posted on x topic you posted on' feature was added, so we could all be notified of that kind of stuff without them having to ping us all directly.
I hope that helps!
yeah the feature you mentioned does explain it. As far as his being in Europe atm, I'm in Australia so you can add about 14 1/2 hours on to Subeta time for where I'm at lol. I can see where you're coming from with his going to the most recent direct ping, but how is he going to know if different issues have been raised unless he reads all of them? Just a thought, and am not meaning to be picky either :)
I'm in Europe and never get a response... ;)
But it seems the amount of stocked items has returned to normal numbers, which gives a much better feel again. Other than that (which actually is returning to status quo) I don't experience any differences so far.
I look forward to these changes. I think it's definitely better for the shops, and won't see low rarity items clogging up shops. Decreased item stocks for lower rarity will probably help bring up some prices. Though it would be nice to see more restocks of rare and super rare items but I guess that's why they are rare/super rare items.
Thank you for pushing through these changes.
I'm going to wait and see how this all works before weighing in too much. I think it's got the potential to work pretty well, I'm hoping for that.
That said, I'm not a fan at all regarding the idea to retire items that routinely don't sell. I feel just looking at restock numbers isn't necessarily the best (or only) metric that should be used. I think the past retirements of items that had gotten old is a good one. In this case, what about items that aren't often used out of season, such as survival flowers or layer cards?
Retiring all the common layer cards because nobody buys them would certainly be a problem come Morostide. Or what about items that aren't used very much but when they are used, they're necessary? Like spell ingredients for scrolls? If half the spell ingredients are retired, that's gonna be a problem. I feel there's a better way to address non-used items than threatening retirement based on non-selling (like tweaking the Random Generator to stop asking for the same four books and foods over and over for quests might help).
Because honestly, that makes me feel like going to the stores and buying one of everything I can find just to keep items in circulation. :c
This is sooooo awesome. I'll weigh in more later, but I'm excited as heck.
-We've started seeing a few items vanish from the shops, but not many. I've still got it set at 3 days, but am probably going to change it to 1 today or tomorrow :)

Thanks for the update! Makes sense. While restocking I haven't noticed a lot of change in NPC shop inventories over the past few days, but I will say that what changes I have noticed in the stocks have been positive. I've caught a few rare items that I don't encounter very often, but not too many to make a person worry that rare item prices will take a heavy hit as the lower rarity items get pulled. It'll be nice as the low rarity items continue to stop restocking as much and it becomes less time consuming to sift through each shop's stock as well. I'm curious to see how these changes will continue to affect prices and availability in the long-term as the system is monitored and has adjustments made. Also curious to see how much more competition this adds to the restocker market, but in the short-term this seems to be working out pretty well so far. :)
I'm very excited about these changes, especially with the potential retiring of items.

I don't like lowering the number of rares and super rares when they're already extremely hard to get and it seems the sane people always manage to get them over and over. Plus if the goal is to get more people playing, why would you lower the number of items for a higher number of people? That's just seriously annoying
