I think it's a good idea to implement something like this in a feature that was pretty much useless up until now. And why shouldn't they? Now the ballroom actually has a point to it other than just looking fancy with just as fancy people in the background.
The one thing that pissed me off though was the lack of explanation. 'Yeah it's occurring while dancing.' - That's all I understood from what was said in the comments. I didn't know what I should pay attention to, how it's exactly triggered, if we got an announcement/alert and what possibly could relate to the RE not working. Actually I've found myself preparing my battle pet, because I thought he was a challenger that pops up while dancing with others.
I don't think it is super hard to include a little more text so everyone understands without a hundred questions piling up in the comments. Nonetheless it's a good and refreshing idea and it makes dancing a lot more exciting, imo. c:

I've been on for a couple of hours and I just got my first event. :D Yay! For those wondering, the pop-up is massive and showed up pretty much automatically when I went to the dance floor. There's no way you can miss it and the choices are on different backdrop colors (green / red), so that's also very easy. c: edit: Also, I use firefox and adblock plus. The popup is in the same window/tab. Think of it like when you click on reply to a comment just without the rest of the page getting darker.
I think it's a cute addition to the event. It's free trinkets, achievements, and forum titles. Sure, it may take a while to get to one, but it's worth it imo. I just hope those with actually glitching duel links get theirs fixed by the end of the event. That's no fun. :(
I really don't understand why so many people hate this addition? If you think it's dumb, then don't do it. I think it's a nice little something extra to work on during the event.
Yes, lets go with more clicking and page loading! Good move. ;)
But really. The dance floor had it purposes in years and events gone by (getting the written/hastily written letters from the other dancers was part of the past plots and things).
This just feels like it's trying to be a quick "hey, see? there is something new to do" instead of this masq being another non-plot/story event where the entire length of the Masq is simply "just dancing for trinkets and pretty things".
Even still, it is a neat idea, just seems hollow/quick?
And frankly, if "just don't do it" is going to be the answer people get when they point out that they don't like how something was done, let's just delete this forum completely. This forum is for Feedback. That is what this is.
My lack of thoughts or opinions on the notion of both more trinkets and achievement things aside, I gotta agree with the thought of-- is this really good for subeta? I mean maybe one of the main reasons the site crashes and burns during events (speaking typically here, I've been busy since it's started so I haven't had a lot of time to clickityclick so idk if the sites died in mass yet or not), is because everything is so click-load-click-load? On one hand I get that's pageviews and stuff, but a limping site doesn't get as many views as a loading site does.
Imo this would be better if the "you've accepted a dance with ol' what's their face, here's some coin" and the ballroom page were... combined? So upon accepting a dance you'd automatically go to a page that gave you the ballroom + the random people + Haha you're mysterious dance partner was indeed ol' what's their face and here's your coin! And when you F5, it loads the next accepted dance + the ballroom and etc etc. I mean considering this new Boudewijn thing still requires clicking upon receiving the event (I, assume?) I don't see how that'd be an issue. Plus less clicking and stuff.
PS: I think this is a cute idea idk? Like, we have this cluster of Masq NPCs it seems really suiting that we'd get to see more of them every year. I WOULD, however, like to see more of them. Maybe the nicer ones accidentally bump into you or didn't notice you and they feel bad and give you trinkets... or the lush is totes your bff and gives you a fat sack of trinkets because bro, he really loves you. No like really bffz.
I finally got the event, I'm guessing it doesn't play well with mobile, and I clicked on the green thinking that was the right one.
It wasn't. :(
[edit]
Got a second chance, and it doesn't even load. Thanks Subeta :)
I know this in-event thing is suppose to be fun, but it isn't when a number of us are stuck in bug that result in a waste of time. Clicking on so many links while fighting lag only to be slapped with a blank or an error page just pisses me off.
It's fine the way it is. Why do people always jump in to whine about how things are "terrible????"? They're not. It works fine. So people don't check the dancefloor... then they lose out. Too bad. It very obviously requires people to go to the dancefloor. I never used to, but I started just for this event.
People whine over every ridiculous little thing like it's the end of the world and the staff are doing a terrible thing. They're not. It makes sense. It works fine. Jesus.
[edit] Btw it's really funny how every time there's a ridiculous complaint thread people are really eager to say, "I didn't understand!" It's... it's really simple guys. Lol. If you don't understand, why are you so eager to tell people? That's... really not a good thing.
Probably cause it literally isn't working for everyone.
* My Duel page is Blank and other errors
I got the event twice. The first time I jumped the gun and clicked the green button (totally my fault- apparently in my head green means go, do not stop and read), the second time, I lost out due to an apparent glitch, which is affecting quite a few people.
I don't take issue with people complaining about it not working (so long as it's not... whining like people usually do), it's the "this event is garbage because my Skype friends can't click a link to the dancefloor" that's ridiculous.
I thought it was a cute idea. I'd like it if different scenarios could be added with the other Masquerade NPCs and it gives purpose back to the ballroom page. I actually just got it on my first dance after getting back home, and I lost.
My only concern was/is that loading the ballroom is more pages for the site to load for the 1600 or so users currently on, and obviously the blank pages other people are getting is a problem.
Also because the news announcement did not clearly let people know how to access the event. If you saw the OP's message, many of the comments were from confused users who didn't know what to do. They didn't know that it wasn't a battle event and didn't know how to get the achievement and where to get it. That's a huge problem that needs to be clarified on the staff's part, instead of leaving users to help others when it could've been clearly stated from the start. This is the Feedback forum, and users are simply saying that they think that there are ways in which this event could've been improved. Users don't understand because the Subeta Team presented it in an unclear fashion.
You stated yourself, that you didn't start checking the dance floor until this event. How was a user supposed to know that was where the event was from the news announcement? Isn't it a problem when the event has glitched for many users already?
It doesn't make sense, and it doesn't work fine.

Eh, I think the first post could use tweaking, but I think they have a point, going to that page is kind of like 'oh I forgot that even existed' and would be better merged with the trinket page
Some of us do have a legit "whine". If I miss out because can't be hassled to click links then its my own fault. I would accept that and not complain. But if someone misses out due to something like a bug (remember the year when the wardrobe hated people and they couldn't put on masks in order to dance?) then its "too bad, so sad"?
Excuse me, I must not have seen your edit
Or your post as I clicked to post
For me, it was reading through the comments, because I was so confused. It wasn't until I came across a comment by another user until I realized what to do. Nowhere in the original news post did it state anything about "dance floor". It just stated that Boudewijn was getting mad and cutting into dances, and that it could yield an achievement. No further information was given, and I think that shouldn't have happened.
Both of us probably figured out what to do through the comments and not the actual post itself.

I thought this was a cute idea at first (even after the initial letdown of finding out that Boudewijn wasn't attempting to drunkenly bitch-slap people in the Battle Arena.. that would have been hilarious.) but I'm really not thrilled with the fact that the events expire the instant you click something else/open a new tab like they do with Ice King/Tempest(?)/etc. Floating items can be a pain, but at least you have a minute or two to see and click them.
Sometimes I enjoy going to the ballroom and refreshing a few times just to see the HAs, but I also agree that it seems like a bad idea to require everyone to be constantly loading a separate page.
