I don't own a large breed dog, but I do love them AND medium-sized dogs! They aren't real dogs unless their brains are bigger than the size of a peanut ;) My family owned a female labrador retriever/australian shepherd for a long time until she died five years back. I'm ready for a new dog, but the idea of taking care of a large dog by myself is daunting -- not because of temperament, but because I am not the biggest, strongest person myself and I remember having trouble when our dog got older and her health failed -- we had to lug her butt around. ;) What breeds do I adore? Oh, gosh!

I've never had a problem with dobermans, rottweilers, or pitbulls. I also like great danes because of their height, but I lovelove boxers because their height is made out of leg and they're super friendly and playful throughout adulthood. There's a french breed of dog named the Beauceron which is a herding/guard dog that has the build of a retriever and the markings of a german shepherd or pinscher. :) Lookit their little faces!

I've been around large dogs my whole life and I do prefer them over smaller breeds. I'm not a dog owner yet but if everything goes well I'm getting my very own Akita (Inu) puppy this autumn!

My dog is technically a large dog, body-wise, but hes got stubby legs, which also technically puts him in the medium category. he's an Australian Shepherd/Cardigan Corgi mix.

I've got two Danes, one is six years old and 170 pounds, the other is 4 years old and around 150 pound. He's taller, but skinnier. I've also got two pitbulls (one is 80 pounds of fat, the other is a pocket pit around 50 pounds.) the rest of mine are all little bitties. All rescues!

Large breeds are definitely where it's at. Our older girl is going to be 16 this year, and she's an (addmittedly overweight) Rottweiler/GSD mix coming in at about 100 lbs. Then there's my dog Orion who is a Lab. He's 4 years old, taller than our older girl, and at a very lean 85-90 lbs. He has two modes: running, and sleeping.

Favorite breeds? Doberman wins top spot, hand (or should I say paws?) down. Labradors are slowly creeping their way up the list ever since I got Orion as a puppy. The saluki, Irish wolfhound, and Scottish deerhound are all lined up after that in no particular order.

I've only ever had Border Collies or Border mixes, so I guess breed wise I've never owned a large dog. I do seem to end up with big boys though. The first boy I had was almost 90lbs and very solid. My current boy is pretty lean, probably 60lbs, but he reaches my shoulders (I'm 5'11") when he stands up for a hug.
