OMG! I got tickets to see AC/DC on August 26th! It's been a life long dream of mine to see them live. This is exactly how I feel:

So, with concert/ music festival season quickly approaching, are you planning on attending any? Who are you the most excited to see at the festivals? I'm almost jumping out of my skin because of these AC/DC tickets.
I work as an EMT at Firefly and Big Barrel, so if you are planning on attending either one of those, you should come see me and maybe we can get a taco or an order of fries together
BACK IN BLACK JAMMED IN MY HEAD. @ Tardis [Edit] oh. and well i'm going to see taylor swift in july.
When I bought my ticket, I spent like 25 minutes being just "what have I done .. what .. omg .. "
That was me ;_;
Are you going there with someone?
My sister bought them for me as a birthday/ Christmas gift. After she got them, I was like, "OMG. I got them. I got them!!!"
Yes, I'm going with a friend. We're going to get a hotel room close to the stadium because it's 3 hours away. Are you going with someone?
Sadly I'm going with my mom ..
Awesome! That's exactly how I felt when I got my Wintersun tickets back in 2012. Even though they're not nearly as big of a band they've been my favourite for years and it was their first time ever in my state so I was crazy excited. Slipknot is coming here in September and I'm really tempted to go see them (they were basically the first band I ever listened to as a kid so even though my musical tastes have evolved over the years, I still have a huge soft spot for them), but I have really bad memories of the venue they're going to so I'm torn. They're playing where Black Sabbath did a few years ago and I almost collapsed from heat exhaustion/pot fumes. I spent the whole time feeling like my lungs had turned to stone. An outdoor Texas venue is NOT A GOOD IDEA between May and November tbh.
I'm thinking about going up to Montreal again this year for Heavy Montreal (Metallica/Slayer was awesome last year). It depends though, I have a friend who wants to try to do 70000 Tons of Metal in early February next year and we've been discussing that for YEARS so it would be amazing for it to finally happen. But since 70k is crazy expensive even before factoring in plane tickets to Florida, I'm going to have to wait on deciding if I'll go to Montreal. I can afford doing both but it's difficult to justify dropping so much money on 2 events less than 6 months apart :(
That sounds like he could be fun. You can have a girls night.
It's the best feeling. Slipknot would be really cool to see but I don't blame you for being unsure. I can't iminage how sick you felt. I get a lot of people who get overheated at Firefly and we're in Delaware. Metallica is number 2 on my list to see live.
Yeah the worst part was that I got overheated AFTER sunset - it must have still been 100F and close to 90% humidity that day, add the fumes and I just couldn't catch my breath. The humidity is the worst part even though I've grown up here and SHOULD be used to it. It was probably in the mid-high 80s in Montreal and super sunny, but there was a nice breeze and not much humidity so I was completely fine even with only drinking one small thermos of water during the day (and then like a litre of water once I was back at the hotel). Metallica was a pretty cool experience even though my group was pretty far away off to the side. The people in the pit had been camped there all day lol, and with 4 or 5 stages and so many bands there was no way we were going to do that.
After it gets dark is when a lot of the problems happen. That sounds horrible. I'm sure people were dropping like flies. The humidity causes most of the problems because it triggers breathing problems. Last year at Firefly, we had people with a lot of breathing problems because it was so dry and dusty. Even my allergies were bothering me. We (the EMS) had to give a lot of people breathing treatments for their asthma.
I'm sure there was getting no where near the stage for Metallica. That's one thing I really like about working as an EMT because through a lot of trials, we discovered it's easier to stand near the stage and go back if we get a problem. I got to stand between the fence and the stage for a lot of the bands, including Tom Petty, The Foo Fighters, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was beyond amazing!
yeah, I was just surprised I was having trouble breathing because there was no direct sunlight anymore, which is the main problem here in Houston. Oh man, dry and dusty sounds like a nightmare for me because my body is so used to high humidity (when it's not also steaming hot lol) that I get horrible nosebleeds when I'm in drier environments.
Yeah, it wasn't a big deal to me because I was honestly exhausted from walking around all day in dirt/gravel in wedges because I'm a dumbass ("yay my first music fest! I'll wear the same shoes I always wear to shows!"), and I just wanted to sit and listen. Imagine sitting in the pit LOL. Oh man, it sounds like you get a super cool experience working as an EMT at those festivals! I would love to work as some sort of staff at festivals but I have no idea of how to get in on something like that lol. My friend said she had a contact who might be able to see if I can be a photographer at riotfest but I'm more of a landscape photographer and would be SO LOST trying to do concert photography.
I got the job because I work the NASCAR races at Dover Downs. I got that job because I'm friends with one of the main guys. We see all kinds of crazy stuff there.
Yeah, last year we had a lot of nose bleeds because of the dust.
Sorry for the short message. I'm sick with the flu and my brain is over stimulated at the moment. I'm feeling better than I was yesterday but I'm still not 100%
ooh, that's awesome! I had a feeling that getting a gig at festivals or big sporting events really depends on having contacts who are part of the organisation team. I can only imagine how crazy some of the stuff that goes on can be. In Montreal there was this drunk guy who probably climbed at least 50ft up all the way on top of one of the giant speaker towers, I have NO CLUE how he got up and down there without dying...
No problem! I hope you feel better soon!
I encounter a lot of drunks at both the races and Firefly lol. He was probably arrested for something.
Thanks. I do too
some drunks are just ridiculous. I never really understood the point of spending a good amount of money on festival tickets and then getting so plastered that you can't remember anything that happened. Yeah, at the very least he probably got kicked out. I would say I hope it was worth it to miss Metallica, but he must've been so drunk he wouldn't have remembered anything anyways. He's just lucky he didn't get seriously injured or die.
I would love to go see Celtic Woman again or Celtic Thunder. I've never been to a music festival, as the ones around here aren't really the kind of music I care for and they tend to have a bad rep as being...full of promiscuous people and drunks, lol. I don't have a problem with either, I just don't think it's a safe atmosphere. I might go to the Celtic Festival this summer though, and that always has some music to it.
Drunks cause most of the problems. Thankfully 9/10 people at Firefly are really cool. But you're always going to have that one person causing issues. I don't know what to expect from the Big Barrel because it's the first year. We haven't had anyone get seriously injured at Dover Downs as far as I know and I'd like it to stay that way
Those sounds fun. My former best friend really loved going to Celtic Thunder shows.
yeah, there's always that one douchebag that ruins things for everyone else - I've seen some horror stories about 70k... Hopefully everything goes smoothly this year as well!
The crowds at Firefly are only getting bigger too. Pretty soon, there will be more people at Firefly than the races. I hope so. Last year was pretty tame compared to two years ago. Two years ago was crazy!
ngl big crowds piss me off really badly lol. I like my personal space. My friends and I went to an Arsenal supporters fan club gathering in NYC last summer the night before their match and the supporters had taken over 3-5 pubs or something and it was PACKED. I freaked out on some guy twice my size trying to walk THROUGH me instead of saying "excuse me" or at least gently trying to move me aside. I elbowed him in the gut and told him I would smash his face in (in less friendly language) if he bumped me one more time. I just don't do well when people try to elbow/bump me out of the way in any situation - I've bodyslammed more than one person at busy crosswalks where they try to walk super fast and smash through the crowd. I'll be damned if I jump out of the way, I'm bracing myself and bruising the hell out of you for being an asshole.
