That might be. Although I am skeptical when it comes to translations. I have no idea how bad it is with comics, but I know how bad it can be in the Fantasy department. I'll never ever get over the fact that they even translate the cities from Asoiaf or the last names there. For Example Jon Snow sounds really good, but in German Snow is Schnee (e pronounced as a long e) and that just sounds... pathetic. Even worse are the cases in some forgotten realms books, where they translated city names literrally (they did that with Asoiaf too in the newer translatons, that Snow example is from newer translations. The older ones had the Snow.)

Oh are you into Egyptology? I've always loved the look of the Egyptian felines c: I was really disappointed though, when I recently found out that the Egyptians used to kill kittens and sell them to others to buy- as offerings to Bast and to control the cat population. I always thought the Egyptians loved animals-they did, but they also performed animal sacrifices.

They found tombs with thousands of mummified cats, and mummified kittens with broken necks. I think I almost cried when I read that XD

Those offerings do indeed suck--they believed that their cats were the guardians of the underworld/afterlife, so they....took them with them in death. I sincerely believe the cats were not okay with that. Are the Egyptian Maus still expensive? Also...is it true that Siamese cats are mean?

Oh they leave it at Dracula. Classics are usually translated pretty well. I never read Dracula in German though. My beloved Kushiel's Legacy Series also was translated pretty well although I prefere to read the original of english books though ^^

Maus are always pricey, but I think the most expensive are the Savannah cats (half African Serval) I have done cat sitting for 2 Siamese. One was super friendly, the other was so rabid she would not even let me into the feeding area lol But nice or not nice, they are really vocal and only bond to one person in my experience. We have the Brooklyn Museum here with an Egyptian floor, and last year there was a small Divine Felines exhibit there. It was cool to see all the kitty artifacts.

Personally, I'm not a fan of 'man made' breeds, just someone trying to play God freaks me out..unnatural. Even the 'accidental' interbreeding-doesn't mean you have to then do it on purpose. It's sad, many people abandon them and Bengals, because they aren't prepared for the wild side of the animal (spraying, eating your bird/feret, etc lol)

It's a trilogy by Jacqueline Carey. Kushiel is only mentioned there. The setting is Europe in the romantic era. The countries all have some different names but are pretty similar to real life countries. Main country is France - or as it is called there Terre d'Ange. The lore goes that out from Yeshuas (Jesus) Blood and the Tears of the earth a man named Elua was born who wandered the earth and preached love. He conviced seven angels to follow hhim, Camael, Cassiel, Anael, Azza, Shemhazai,Kushiel and Naamah. They forsake heaven and made Terre d'ange their home mingeling with the people there and thus producing children that were most beautiful and talented and so on. Eventually god and Gaia as well as Elua came to an agreement and built some kind of eden, where Elua went with his followers and waits for all the spirits of the dead D'angelines (inhabitants of Terre d'ange)

Heroine of the books is a courtesan, which is also trained as a spy. She has to unravel several betrayals and saves her country more than ones. As d'angelines value love the most, the also value courtesans higher than any other popuation does in the books and the heroine frequently uses her body to get help or information.

Oh I have plenty. However my hometown has no museum for ancient history. I would have to got to Pergamon museum in Berlin. That is where they keep all the egyptian stuff they got while having colonies or occupying egypt or whatever other means they used to get the artifacts.

My hometown has a museum for military history though, and several for nature and sciences as well as some gallaries or a treasure chamber of some sorts, as we are the capital of a Bundesland, which is akin to a state in the US.

I guess with Berlin, being such a major city, they save a lot of interesting exhibits for them. I'm sure a lot of tourists go there as well.

I actually enjoy military exhibits, seeing all the different uniforms/weapons/planes/automobiles and reading about them. The only problem is that it can be months/years before they change anything or acquire new items. The museums here are always changing to keep repeat customers. It seems like you have enough there to keep you occupied though :)

Probably. And maybe other museums don't have the means to store the items correctly or something. We have a anually night of the museums and sciences. They make a lot of special exhibits in each museum or institute especially for that. So that Is always something that can be nice - and enlightening.

Modern warfare isn't my cup of tea. I enjoy mediaval things though. Esp in castles. Went to a torture chamber ones where they explained how all the devices worked and such.

How does the agreement come about, as you said "eventually". The children of these angels--is there a bad side to them and their...beauty, talent and charm? Are some of them vain, callous, or without conscience? If they changed the names of the countries, how do you know which is which?

The cat looks lovely...but yes, I agree with you--forced interbreeding is quite odd. If it just...happened, like with the very first one, its one thing, as ligers and tigons just..happen (at least the very first ones). But....forcing them because someone is willing to pay a high price for the...."novelty"....not really swell.

Also...people abandon them? That's just wrong. I don't like when anyone abandons any pet. If you can't handle them, at least TRY to give them to someone who can. Or think before buying in the first place. It's like the ferret issue....parents buying them for their kids (bad idea. Kids don't have the patience and are most likely to harm the ferret.) and then, eventually, giving the ferret to a pound or something because ferrets don't usually do well with kids. Waaay too many ferrets in pounds were previously owned by children.

I think Elua and his companions where on earth for about 60-100 years And the angels couldn't go back. God sent some otehrs after them, but Elua charmed tthe hunters. And in order to get Elua and the angels back god then asked why they wouldn't come to haven, to which Elua replied that heaven was bloodless and he himself was not. Therefore they built the eden thingy.

The main antagonist, Melisande, is without coinscience. The heroine is an anguisette, which means she feels lust whenever the is in pain. It is said tthat Kushiel uses Anguisettes to balance the scales of good and evil, as they are his tool. Melisande actualy comes from Kushiels line and as such is not allowed to kill Phédre (the heroine) if she where to do so, she would earn herself ten thousand years of punishment. Normal D'angelines would only earn thousand years.

The names are mostly something that gives the country they were modeled after away o, if that isn't enough the culture of the people living there does. For example Spain is renamed Aragonia - which as far as I now is a real province of Spain. Germany is Skaldia, where the people and customs are pretty close to the Vikings.

And you also get a map in the book, as the borders aren't always the same as in the real world. There is no Austria for example.

The clothes not always, however each courtesan bears a tattoo on their back, which is firstly to show what they are and secondly also tells to what house they belong (if they are from the capital of Terre d'ange and were educated at the so called Night Court)

Also most important event in their society is the mid-winter masque and the costumes there are always well described.

The heroine has dark brown hair and bistre eyes, where the left one bears a scarlet mote, a token that marks her as one of Kushiels Anguisettes. However her tattoo, or marque as they are called in the books is different, because she belonged to a noble who was responsible for her espionage training.

I haven't found a excerpt for you for Kushiels Dart which would be the first book in the trilogy.

They have a similar torture chamber here at the Ripley's Believe it or Not, but the actual devices weren't real from the period, all reproductions. Well the 'good' ones bring the animal back to the breeder (even though there are no refunds). I had someone throw a cat out of a car in front of my house. People...just amaze me sometimes. There is no excuse for that behavior, but one time I found a cat and Every.Single.Shelter. turned her away. So it's possible someone tried shelters and ran out of ideas. It's still despicable, I just can't think of any other reason a non-evil person would abandon an animal.

lol, I don't mind most of the zombie skins.....but last year....I hated all of those diseases.
