Hm, a lot of really interesting thoughts going on here.

Dandelina makes a good point by bringing up the "in their 20s" thing. I have a feeling that as you get older and spend more time around full-time adults, this issue will start to dissipate. Sex is a natural part of life for a lot of people. However, young adults have a body that is quite literally screaming "reproduce!" at their brains 24/7. So, yeah, you can blame a lot of it on hormones. The fact that most of pop culture is driven by people in the 20s age range doesn't help.

It's very interesting to me to see this kind of universal agreement that "sex is a big deal" in most communities. I was raised in a very religious and conservative environment; sex was never discussed, and when it was, it was usually in the "may we be purged of our sinful thoughts" context. (And, yes, this includes most of the other kids and teenagers I spent time around.)

When I got older I started to shake off this whole "sex is evil" mindset. I'd consider myself a very sexually open and sex-positive person. Some might even say to excess! But that mostly has to do with all the years I spent in a sexually repressive environment. Once I felt safe enough to express myself, I really enjoyed being a sexual being.

So, maybe that's an answer; maybe the reason people are obsessed with sex (especially online) is because they don't have a comfortable venue to express their sexuality somewhere else. Or maybe they're just like a kid with a new toy - having a lot of fun right now, but destined to get bored of it soon. Just a few thoughts, anyway.

i'm a Communications student and i have no idea how the following discussion reached this topic but today our professor went on about how we're biologically sexual beings who crave sexual attention & how the desire to reproduce is our natural instinct, etc etc etc i'm demisexual (leaning more towards asexuality) and i understand that sex is a part of life & that it's a popular subject and i'm fine with it but sometimes i wish people would just kinda chill out.... @-@
