I am so far behind, thank God for y'all keeping the lair up to snuff, and for new and very hard working SubetaLodge teammates, for an understanding Wayward Squirrel team and of course it's coordinator, GreenRowan. (The only part I've done anything on this chapter is the puzzle) It's not that I have a good reason, I got caught up trying to find out everything I can about two individuals who felt they had the right to put their hands on my son and his wife last night. (Who are both ok, got a few bumps, scrapes, bruises and a cut that didn't require stitches is all)
Where I live they do what we call the "Days" - small town celebrations that take place throughout the summer (its also an excuse to get trashed and hire some random band to play loud music on main street badly). I don't do Days. I don't drink, don't want anything to do with strangers and when someone butchers Bob Seger or Janis Joplin it makes my skin crawl even when the music is coming from several blocks away. But my kids do. Which is fine - or was until now.
Let me tell you a story.. a man and his wife were leaving our little hometown's "Days" street dance in the local pub's parking lot to get themselves something to drink when a 20 something year old female neither of them have seen before tackles the wife. As the man turns and sees his wife on the ground kicking at the stranger who jumped her, he's is restrained by a couple other guys who tell him not to interfere.
Why they did this is unclear. Most likely they wanted to see a chick fight. What is clear is it was not so her 25 year old 250 pound boyfriend could come running up behind them, sucker-punch the man they were detaining in the side of the face so hard it split the skin along his cheek bone, instantly spilling blood and disappear into the gawkers spilling out of the bar to see what was going on - which is exactly what happened.
Released immediately the man didn't react to any of this. He didn't raise his voice, didn't even acknowledge he had been hit. His focus remained on getting to his wife, who by this time was not only on her feet but she'd already taught the snarky little bitch who jumped her a lesson or two on who not to pick random fights with and was more than ready to school her some more on the subject. The man ignored every thing beginning to unfold around them, asking if she was ready to go get the Pepsi she mentioned earlier. Hand in hand they continued to the concession stand as if nothing happened.
Many would consider the man's actions commendable. But when you realize the blood trickling down his face is the blood of a highly decorated United States Marine, his actions take on a whole other meaning. And if I wasn't his mother, I might pity the bastard who sucker punched him. But I am. And I don't.
Timmy says next thing he knows, the guy who hit him is in the back of the squad car - not because they were arresting him at that point - but for his own protection. Once his girlfriend got off the ground she runs toward them screaming "She hit me She hit me" and grabbed a friend of hers as a witness. When her friend said "If she did you asked for it." she went ballistic which landed her in the back of a second squad that was only there because it was part of the parade.
Situation defused and statements taken from witnesses who were sober enough to spell their name, both were charged with assault and hauled away. Knowing I wouldn't ask why, Timmy then sent me text saying 'sorry so late mom, didn't want you to worry. Gonna to stay at Robbies tonight' so I wouldn't see him covered in blood. Oblivious that anything had happened, I went to bed thinking they were still having a good time. When my phone started blowing up this morning as family and friends heard about it or were sober enough to try and find out if they were ok or needed bailed out of jail I about went ballistic myself.
Hearing the whole story, I do not have the words to express how proud I am of the way they handled themselves in all this. If it had been me at that age, I'd still be in jail. My son had serious issues with alcohol after being injured in Baghdad and I knew he was doing a lot better but sober or not, he's always been a scrapper. As for Jenna, I call her his little diva. I've never seen anyone so picky about how they look and what they wear. Not even my own little diva. I had no idea she was capable of making a fist, let alone kicking someone's ass.
My son has proven himself to be the man I always knew he could be. I could not be prouder of him if I tried.
Our Lair is proof you don't have to stand face to face to know you've got friends who stand with you when you need us.
Mni wiconi -- water is life
O gosh that sounds harrowing, I'm glad they're ok.
A lot of excellent HAs in the Lair lately.
I have no zombie skins I like to stay uninfected, so no Alchove alchemy for me. I wonder how much of this we will see this summer?
gosh some people these days are just evil, glad everything has worked out ok
Thanks for the tip!
That's scary! I'm glad that Jenna taught the silly twit a lesson. And yay for the twit's friend who told her off.

: Wow, what a story. I'm glad Tim and Jenna are alright and I'm glad that they dealt with the situation the way they did. Somebody needs to take out the trash, why on earth do people think that it's sporting to start fights with total strangers? What is wrong with the human race?
