It sure does seem big and bulky. Is someone having sight issues? Did anyone really request bigger buttons and such?
...Was this beta-tested at all, or just released onto the live site with no forethought at all? =/
I'm really not trying to be disrespectful, but taking the Livejournal/Tumblr approach to site updates is a really bad way to do things. It's extremely alienating to users when you don't communicate about this sort of thing, spring it on them without warning and then, on top of it all, the things you're "updating" didn't need to be fixed, anyway and the "updates" only make things worse.
It wasn't necessary to "update" the search. It really wasn't. It wasn't broken. At least, not until it was "updated" =/
Stop breaking things. PLEASE.
If you ABSOLUTELY MUST update something, update the bloody navigation bar so that the drop-down menus don't automatically drop every time your cursor happens to graze them. It's freaking aggravating and has been since they were introduced...
It was necessary to update the page. We are no longer using bootstrap, the style library that was used on the page before. It was loading both libraries instead of just one.
Beyond that, the actual code powering the "instant search" needed to be updated. It was causing lag on the servers, using a library that twitter deprecated two years ago and hasn't updated to work with the newest versions of our javascript libraries, etc.
I know that it's easy to look at something and say "this didn't need an update" but typically there are a lot of underlying technology factors that require something to get an update beyond just changing how it looks.

Could we get it to where the autocomplete doesn't cover the search button, especially when we copy and paste the exact item name, only to have the autocomplete drop down with the same suggestion, forcing us to click it to click search?
It's a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.
I really can't say anything that would be constructive at all at this point. I'm just doing this: -_-
I absolutely agree with
Even getting only one return from the autocomplete will cover the search button. If I get two or more returns, then when I automatically click on where the search button is, I end up searching for the wrong thing.
The easiest fix would be to just move back the search button so it's on the same level as and to the right of the search bar.
ONE good thing about the new Shop Search....the item scramble game word I have right now is Dark Triceratops Horn...I couldn't figure out the middle word before...with the old SS, typing in "Dark Horn" did not work. But with the new one, I could type in "Dark" and then "Horn" and I was able to quickly figure out that the middle word was Triceratops because it doesn't take in account the order.
Well I suppose it isn't too bad but I still say the hover background color be adjusted a bit to a light gray or something. Or is there some CSS code I can use in case the gray won't work for others?
When typing in the search words, all the possibilities come up in a random order. I liked when the possible matches were listed in alphabetical order. Can we have that back, please?
how can we change the color to match our layout? i don't like that light blue and prefer a gray/brown....don't kow css codes :(
and yes to alphabetical order. too much time spent in trying to find the name of the correct item if it's not in alphabetical order.
Ohh god yes please. On my monitor the light blue is nearly impossible to see and it is the same everywhere that blue is at. It is very very distracting. If I could change that blue color I would be so happy.

Please for the love of Shinwa someone find a way to do this. I have a cream/light brown color for my custom css and that blue is just so out of place.
Also echoing why is it so BIG and I hate that it doesn't auto-fill words in any longer, guess I'll be using SubetaLodge a lot more than usual!
[edit]
Figured out how to change that awful blue color!
.ui.message.blue{ background-color: ; }
just change DDCCAE to whatever colour you'd like!
Friendly pings!

CSS changes the box around the search bar, not the hover background color of the dropdown
thanks :)
[edit] figured out css for the search button color - change "b0a38b" to any color you want :)
The alphabetical order thing really needs to come back.
